(vi) because of the references to their origin as being derived of animal sacrifice, as evolved from the sin of steeling the offering and when caught for that by her husband throwing that to a distant place where due to its being impregnated with life invoking mantras took the seed form as red dahl, red onion and white onion.

    Yeah right.

If one wants to follow Deity worship then it is enough that one's guru has said "don't offer krishna this items".

Prabhupada said don't offer chocolate because it has caffeine. A group of his disciples became obsessed with try to show Srila Prabhupada why he was wrong.

Rather it contained caffeine or not was never really the point. Guru is trying to save us from death so why nit pick over such instructions?

I am not a disciple nor do I make formal offerings of my food so I don't worry about it.

The health benefits of garlic is the allicin and that you can get it a form that causes no bad breath or "repeating". Neither garlic nor onions make me "repeat" anyway. That is if repeat is supposed to be a polite way to say fart. LOL

Well Swami Ramdev has sworn off sex, saying "it is not love".

However many Westerners claim that Hatha Yoga makes gives

them a better sex life. Perhaps it depends on the individual?

Besides which human life is meant as a trasitional life from the material into the spiritual. The Lord has arrangement human life according to certain principles such as the grihastra ashrama or the equivilant in our societies. In this way marriage has His blessing. In the Gita He states he is that sex life that is not contrary to religious principles. Homosexuality is contrary to religious principles. Prabhupada states in his purports to the Bhagvatam that the desire of a male to have sex with another male is demonic.

It is a nasty deviation from nature. Simple observation with some common sense tells us this doesn't it?

But gHari is right, ultimately yoga will cure even heterosexuality, but only at the last stages of a regulated life. The homosexual life style will not lead to that higher stage but away from it into the nether regions of consciousness.

I'm afraid I disagree with Ayodha how could Hitler reach enlightenment when he killed so many people. God does not just look at your diet, even though he was a vegetarian what was the point when he killed so many people. To me there is no difference between Jesus and Krishna.

Hitler was NOT a vegetarian. Lord will this myth never die. His favorite food was a type of German or Austrian sausage.

The difference between Jesus and Krishna is the difference between Father and Son.

  4.

If anybody is a devotee of Krishna and is a vegan ( not that there is anything wrong with it) and says drinking milk and eating other dairy products is a sin, then think what lord Krishna did always eating butter, drinking milk etc. There is a difference between killing a cow and millking it. It does not feel any pain when getting milked but imagine if you were in that situation about to be some ones meal.

You have missed the point entirely. It is not the milk drinking it is supporting the dairy industry witch is a limb of the meat industry that is ignorant and cruel.

Drink all the milk you want but accept it from protected cows. You need to do some investigation into how dairy cows are treated. Please do that.

The new Hindu is akin to a born-again Christian. That is if there`s such a word as a born-again Hindu.:)

There is such a word. It is called diksa. Unfortunately the term is most commonly taken to refer to someone who has undergone a aprticular ceremony whereby he is given a thread, a mantra, and a new title brahmin. Brahmin means one who knows brahman or spirit. Such a person may not know brahman at all.

This corresponds to the Christian who goes to a water baptism ceremony and upon coming up out of the water is told "now you are a reborn Christian". nevermind that Jesus never taught this.

Jesus taught that the first birth is from water, the human birth, breaking of the water, and the second birth comes from God, which is the touch and cleasing of transcendence. IOW diksa.

Small minded sectarianists will argue that sacred thread ceremony is real diksa and the same from the other camp will say "No, baptism in water is real rebirth."

We have to rise up out of these camps and come into the light of God's presence.

  6.

Yes. That makes sense. There is a limit to what can be logically explained or understood. I guess consciousness (or God) is that limit. And absolute truth might simply reveal itself within our tiny human consciousness..

Yes. Now let's consider a little more deeply on your statement which we both accept. For the absolute truth to reveal itself to us is a choice on the part of that absolute truth.

There is no mechanism that we have, gross or subtle, that can force the absolute truth to reveal itself.

Making a choice to act or not to act is contradictory to the idea of the absolute truth being a void or just static undifferentiated light energy as the impersonalists propose and we all know as Brahman.

That choice comes from beyond the Brahman.

Therefore to gain knowledge from the Absolute Truth we need to receive it on the terms set by the Absolute Truth. He is also free to just give this knowledge to someone even if they don't live up to those terms. This is call Krishna kripa, Krishna's special mercy.

Yes, ours is a humble position. The Absolute Truth can reveal Himself to us or not. It behooves us to approach Him in a humble state of mind.

  7. God is not or personal healer of all our bodily aliments. Like He is alwsy on-call to jump when we have a problem. "Oh Lord please comequickly and fix my backache." We are God's servants.

In the case of these parents it is a touching story but they should have been taught that God has also given the intelligence to man to develop a medical science and make use of all the natural remedies that surround us.

beyond that disease and death come with the territory that is a material earth body.

And to cure that disease He is willing to establish us asa form of Sat Chit Ananda where we will never experience any disease or even worry about such a thing.

This is a case of religion without philosophy resulting in misplaced faith which is now damaged because afterall according to their belief God must have let them down, right? Or maybe even there is no God afterall.

  8.

Are you saying that your health improved AFTER taking onion and garlic. I read somewhere about garlic boosting up immune

And my question to all devotees out here, will it offend you ,if some vegetarian or vegan eats onion, garlic, masoor dal, radish, etc. ?

There are some devotees who will avoid any red vegetable. I was in a discussion where devotees were declaring carrots to be be the same as meat because of some story in the Puranas. They also avoided tomateos, beets and possibly radishes.

Apparently some blood from a cow entered the earth and caused the appearance of these vegetables or something. Quite silly in my estimation.

  9.

Actually the origin of garlic and onion are from an asura when the milk ocean was churned to get nectar. When the nectar was distributed one asura who took along with Devas was chopped off his head by the discus of the Lord. Then from the dripping blood which fell on earth came garlic and onion came from the phlegm from the asura.Since it had also nectar mixed they have medicinal properties, but as they are from the asura's body, they have tamasic qualites.Hence Sadhaks are asked to avoid them

    You believe this literally?

  10.

Is he an exception or is it maybe because dashrath was remembering his son rama and not parmatma rama.

Even in the case of ajamil he called out narayana.

But did he acheive moksha at that time.

    I cant remember.

    Don't know anything about dasaratha.

Ajamila did not achieve Krishna at that time but later after going to Hardwar & living in a Visnu temple.

  11.

Yes. Logic is of the subtle mind. As such, logic can transcend our (non-subtle) material world and provide theoretical knowledge about reality which cannot be obtained directly by empirical means or perceptual observations. However, any theory about reality must ultimately have a verifiable or testable objective basis in our empirical world, in order to be considered a scientific theory and not just philosophical speculation.

Yes that is the standard offered by the gross scientists although they don't always follow it.

Theist, do you think the Brahman effulgence can be logically understood as the basis of our manifest material universe?
Well yes. That is what some some scientists have come to understand apparently through their own investigations and methods.

And are you suggesting that God/Krishna can’t fully understand His own greatness, i.e., that this is a limitation of His omniscience?
Yes but then He also understands His own greatness. We cannot limit the Lord to having only one mindset at a time.

As Krishna the boy in Vrndavan playing with the gopis and cowherds He needn't think of Himself as God the Almighty. He can become immersed in the rasa of His devotee right along with that devotee, and not that He has to pretend to be immersed while always being conscious that He is God.

Yet at the same time He is fully aware of himself as God Almighty as Visnu at all times.

And while Krishna is playing ignoring His Supreme Power, and Visnu is fully cognizant of the same,a Krishna as Lord Caitanya can be fully immersed in separation from Krishna in the mood of Radharani.

In this way the Lord can be amazed at His own greatness while always understanding how great he is.

The Lord houses all contradictions perfectly and harmoniously. We can never pin the Lord down and capture Him with the rope of our logic. We can never have enough rope for the task. Logic can only take us so far or it can be said that it is logical that God is always beyond our logic to know or understand.

In fact, there exists a logical argument that no conscious entity can have complete knowledge of itself. According to Kurt Gödel's incompleteness theorem, there can never exist a complete system of formal logic that allows all true logical statements about itself to be derived from itself. (see e.g.: Gödel's incompleteness theorems - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Then it comes to what Godel meant by a living entity? Anyway such speculation can never apply to God.

  12.

Mr thiest wait i have a doubt.

ISnt it also mechanical that whoever remembers the lord at the time of his death surely attains him.

But Sant, you were the one who gave the example of an exception in the person of Dasaratha.

All I mean to say is that is the rule that Krishna goes by, but the rule is given by the Supreme Person Himself and He is free to change His mind at anytime for reasons known only to Himself.

Ultimately the person rules over the rule.

  13.

You are right Theist, the killing shows mercilessness; unconsciousness being the cause.

I still remember the days.. not that long ago where cows were treated very kindly.. but that mood of kindness seems to have disappeared in my country.

Amlesh, it has never been the case in my country. Cows, animals in general, have always been victimized in the West. There is a very grand cover-up in the USA as to what animal slaughter really is. The illusion here is very very thick.

It is such a fight just to get people to consider there may be a better way, a way based on compassion instead of cruelty.

  14. Yes you are right about b-12. Many vegans neglect this to their detriment. I take it as a supplement. 5000 mcg sublinqualy.

Many meat eaters and milk drinkers run low in this important vitamin also as their guts don't absorb what little is in food. This is the reason for placing it under the tongue.

  15.

Yes, its hard, and who am i to judge ?

Krishna has given you intelligence to make such judgments. It is the duty of the head to direct the actions of the body. You have a duty to judge which actions lead to God consciousness and those that lead to hell and to instruct others.
