Why is there a thum-down icon for this thread? If I remember correctly, Sarasvati ji had put a smiling face.

If people in this forum are asked which of the stories of Krsna they like the most, we will get various answers. Everybody will have some proper reason for his/her answer. I personally like the story where Krsna helps Sudama. The reason I like this story the most is that there are many things done by Krsna that can not be emulated by everyone (e.g. lifiting up of Govardhana, killing so many demons etc.). But many things can be learnt from His help of Sudama and we can really implement what we learn from this story.
Many people help others. But how many times they help because they really care for the person they are helping. Please don't get me wrong. I am not trying the say that they never care. But I am trying to say that the motive is not always that. Often times it is found that a person is really in need and somebody close to him knows this and he is capable of helping. But he waits till the person in need asks for help clealry. If I know that somebody is in need and even though I am capable of helping him, I am waiting for him to ask for help in clear terms, then this does not show my helping attitude, rather this shows my ego.
Also, how many time do people help others in such a way that the person being helped does not feel insulted? Often times one person helps others in front of many people in such a way that the latter will definitely think very low of himself.
How many times do people continue to give respect to those they have helped? It is found that they think very low of those they have helped.
Compare all these with the way Krsna helps Sudama. When Sudama comes to Krsna, he was wearing torn clothes and his body was emaciated. But Krsna does not look down upon him. Rather he is genuinely happy. He shows very great respect to Sudama. He does not pretend to be happy to see his childhood friend. He is genuinely happy. When He sees the beaten rice that Sudama had brought as a gift, He does not laugh at Sudama. Rather He relishes the rice. Here He proves that the sentiments of the person who has brought a gift is far more important than the price of the gift. Sudama does not ask for help in clear terms. But Krsna does not think, "He is not asking for help clearly. So, why should I help him? I don't care." Rather He helps him and that too without telling this to Sudama. Not only Krsna's but Sudama's character is also great here. When he comes out of the palace of Krsna, at that time he is not aware that Krsna has decided to help him. He is under impression that Krsna would not give him wealth. He does not think, "Oh, what a egocentric person He is! He has become so proud after becoming rich that He does not care for His childhood friend. He is no longer my friend. I don't want to talk to Him. I don't even want to see His face."
Rather he concludes that it was for his own benefit that Krsna did not give him wealth.

The best example of helping somebody is the one where Krsna helps Sudama. Many things can be learnt from this story.

Because of my extremely bad mentality, I wanted to vote twice. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif But I got a message
We already have a vote for this poll from this IP address.
So, I could vote only once. /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

I entered the offset as 9.5 Now it is pefect. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif
-
It is working. Only that the time shown here is half an hour before my system time. This is because the offset time is 9 hrs and 30 min but in the profile I could enter offset in hours.
-
I have set time zone in my profile. Just checking the effect.
-
For technical reasons we switched over to Eastern Time Zone (New York) instead of Pacific.
This is very sad. /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif
Is it possible to take the time from client machine so that each member sees the time as per his system time? If it is complicated, then please try to use IST.
I don't like timing based on New York. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

I added your lost 500+ posts as well.
WOW! I claim that everybody will love this plus point. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif
The new smiley is nice; it looks like Calvin. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

I am trying to remove anything that clutters or is not useful, but there is no easy way other than editing the programming.
Do you think I could be of any help?

The no. of registered users who are online and the no. of anonymous users who are online are displayed. It seems that the no. of anonymous users includes the registered users also.
Also I will reset you registration date to your original registration till I get around to the other suggestions.
This will be a BIG plus point. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

In the page that shows the names of all the forums, the name of the last poster is displayed for some of forums. I think it can be removed. Or, may be that you had some valid reason for doing that. What was the reason?
-
From the side vertical bar, date when a member registered and how many messages he has posted can be removed. But please let the location be there. I like that.
Now, every message can have some subject. This also can be removed because the complete thread can be given some title but the way we post messages, in most of the cases, we can not give any subject that really represents the content of the message. Even if we give a subject, it will be too generic.

After pressing any key in the Message text box or on clicking anywhere in this text box, I get an error.

Now I know that, as of now, there are 566 registered users! That is a good number.
Welcome to gvnk, the newest member.

It may take some time to get used to this new beauty. But, I am sure, it will happen. Many useful options are now provided to the poster. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Will Ashvatthama be qualified enough to become Vyasa in the next dwapar yuga? Isn't he suffering from a curse by Krsna?

Why not with Buddha?

From Quran:
89:28. "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
If Lord is pervading everywhere and has no form, then everybody is already with Lord. What is the meaning of 'Come back thou to thy Lord?'
64:15. Your riches and your children may be but a trial: but in the presence of Allah, is the highest, reward.
Again if Allah is present everywhere and He does not have a form, then everybody is having the reward of being in the presence of Allah.
67:16. Do ye feel secure that He Who is in heaven will not cause you to be swallowed up by the earth when it shakes (as in an earthquake)?
67:17. Or do ye feel secure that He Who is in Heaven will not send against you a violent tornado (with showers of stones), so that ye shall know how (terrible) was My warning?
If Allah is everywhere and is formless, then what is the meaning of 'He Who is in heaven'?
11: 4. 'To Allah is your return, and He hath power over all things.'"
Again, if Allah is everywhere and is formless, then we are already with Allah. Why 'To Allah is your return'?

Aren't there instances of marriage between cousins in Puranas?
-
My point is that calling something "interpolation" merely because it does not suit him is hardly good scholarship.
Accepted. But please tell if you consider Puranas free of interpolation.

Muslims call Hinduism as polytheism because there are so many gods in Hinduism. They call Islam as monothiems because there is one God (Allah) in Islam. But Muslims believe in the presence of many angels. If the presence of many gods means polytheism, then how can the presence of many angels mean monotheism?
Can fayarus comment?
-
Some Muslims do not consider hadiths as authorities on Islam. If fayarus is one of such Muslims, then we can not provide arguments from hadiths.

We can't make a generic rule that violence is always bad. Depending on the situation, it can be good or bad.
