Radha and krishna and more pastimes at Radha Kunda
Avinash replied to I_love_krishna_'s topic in The Hare Krishna Forum
IF you get numbers in between and make it really hard to read, then don't fear! just go to notepad and copy and paste this there I think it clears it up or so I have heard. It does not clear it up. This is because the characters like quotes have already been converted to some other characters (combination of &, $ and digits). When we copy from your post, the clipboard contains these converted characters. -
Isn't it true that in India, women who give birth to boys get more respect that women who give birth to girls ? It is true in some families. But, it does not happen as much as the books written by people outside India show. Most of these books show India as it was a few decades back. India has changed a lot since then.

Long before our Sun and Earth ever existed, a Jupiter-sized planet formed around a sun-like star. Now, almost 13 billion years later, Hubble Space Telescope has precisely measured the mass of this farthest and oldest known planet. The planet orbits a peculiar pair of burned-out stars in the crowded core of a globular star cluster. The burned-out starts are a helium white dwarf and a rapidly spinning neutron star. In such a place, fragile planetary systems tend to be ripped apart due to gravitational interactions with neighboring stars. But, this planet has survived. It takes a century to complete each orbit. The planet is 2.5 times the mass of Jupiter. Its very existence provides tantalizing evidence the first planets were formed rapidly, within a billion years of the Big Bang, leading astronomers to conclude planets may be very abundant in the universe.

I find it very ironic when women of a family feel sad over the birth of girl babies. How do they ignore the fact that they themselves are females?

Monotheism vs Polytheism: Islam vs Hinduism
Avinash replied to Avinash's topic in Spiritual Discussions
However if it is said that Brahma is Almighty God who has four heads with each head having a crown, Muslims take strong exception to it. In Sanskrit scriptures, there are two words both of which are written in Roman script as "Brahma". Actually, there are transliteration schemes to distinguish between the two, but those schemes can not be used in an ordinary text editor. Lord Brahma (pronounced as Brahmaa) is not considered as the supreme. Vedas talk about Brahma (pronounced with clipped 'a' at the end). -

Quran is written in Arabi. I do not know Arabi. But, just because I do not know some language, it does not mean that verses written in that language are from God. There are many people in the world who do not know Sanskrit. Do you mean to say that all of them should accept that the scriptures written in Sanskrit are from God? Let me play your game: - Try writing a verse as in Bhagavad-Gita. Mr Guest, forget about the others , let us see how your own people will judge when you try writting one. -

How can you know what is written by God and what is written by human beings? Was Quran written by Allah? If no, then it was written by human being. As you have mentioned, human beings are capable of making mistakes. If yes, then how can you claim this? You have written: - Now you would say that these books that we believe were also written by men as that is the info that you have. This is the biggest difference between us. And if this is the case then I challenge you to write a verse by yourself to prove us wrong. If somebody writes a verse, then who will judge the quality of the verse? I can as well say that you try to write a verse of the quality which is found in Bhagavad-Gita. -
It is engrained in some people's mind that girl babies are bad. Not only male members of a family, female members also sometimes hate it when a girl child is born. It is said that mother is harassed if she gives birth to a girl. I agree that in most of the cases it is true. But, it is not always true. Let me mention an incident from my personal experience. Years back, I was living in a house as a tenant. The children of land-lord were far elder than me and my siblings. The eldest son was married. He had two daughters. His wife was to give birth to one more child. On the day the baby was born, the baby's father came to the house from hospital. By that time, his two sisters had somehow been informed that the child was again a girl. I do not know how they came to this information. The information was wrong. The child was a boy. But, the two sisters were thinking that it was a girl. Both of them became very sad. They started telling that their fate was not good and all such things. The baby's father informed that the baby was a son. Then his two sisters were overjoyed. But, of course, now they started saying that they did not make any distinction between boy and girl. Though, just a while back, they were very gloomy. It can also not be said that they did not want girl child because of economic reasons. The family was very well-off.

SALEM, India (CNN) -- Fifteen hours after a baby girl was buried alive by her father in central India, police managed to pull her out -- and she was still alive. The father should be buried. He is a demon.

No, we are not supposed to fear him. At least, not any more than any of God's other forms.

The word has to be pronounced as "shlokaaj". It means "Sanskrit verses".
-
Both the names sound Indian. Do you know how to write these names in Hindi? If yes, then just write them in Hindi and your problem is solved. Both Hindi and Sanskrit use Devanagiri script.

If there is Hare Krsna temple nearby, then it is very likely that you will get Gita in English there. -
Monotheism vs Polytheism: Islam vs Hinduism

Mr Gary and folks, Coming to modern times, we have the two important reformist movement of the Arya Samaj and the Brahmo Samaj in Hinduism. The latter is more influenced by Christianity and has discarded the theory of rebirth. Both of these sects denounce idol worship, the Arya Samajists being most militant in this respect. They take their inspiration from the Vedas which they say preached only the unity of God; but they denounce the theory of incarnation, image worship and ritualism Brahm Samaj may have some similarities with Christianity. But, this is not enough reason to believe that it is influenced by Christianity. Moreover, I did not understand the intention behind this post. Are you trying to criticize Brahm Samaj or are you trying to criticize the concept of rebirth, image worship and ritualism? You have posted some hymns which say that God is one. Even Hindus in this forum believe that God is one. So, why post those hymns? Baghvat Gita which probably you may be holding the book of authority was written by Valmiki. Dont tell me now that he was the incarnate of Krishna. Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Lord Krsna to Arjuna on the battle-field of Kurukshetra. Sanjaya was describing to King Drtarashtra what was going on in the battle-field. The great sage Veda-Vyasa wrote the dialog between Sanjaya and Drtarashtra. Valmiki wrote Ramayana. He was also a great sage. When did any of us say that Valmiki was an incarnation of Krsna? -

Baghvat Gita which probably you may be holding the book of authority was written by Valmiki. Valmiki did not write Bhagavad Gita. He wrote Ramayana. You get your information from some websites which contain wrong information and you pat yourself on the back thinking that you know a lot about Hinduism. Moreover, who wrote Quran? Why should anyone believe that it was written by Allah. Did Allah personally write it with his own hands? -

Today is 23 June. Yesterday, i.e. on 22 June, some of us might be worrying, Of, what will happen tomorrow?". Or, in other words, we were worrying what would happen on 23 June. Today is 23 June.

A thought for our (Indian) National Anthem!

"Saree Jaha Se Acha" is a song glorifying India, but it is not the national anthem. The national anthem is "Jana gana mana". -
Indian Paganism - The Last Living Expression of Aryan Beauty

I have a few books on Plato's writings. It is wrong to say that Plato believed in the absence of soul in women. On the contrary, he was of the opinion that both men and women are important for society. Many people in those days thought that some work could not be done by women, e.g., ruling a kingdom. Plato was of the view that, what a person is capable of doing, depended more on his/her soul than his/her body. In the rejoinder to the opinion that women were not capable of doing some tasks, his reply was, "It is not that women have female soul." Many misinterprete this statement. -

If we say that Ramayana is a mythological story, then how can one claim that the story of Adam in Bible is not mythological. If it is, then why is the name "Adam's bridge" appropriate? -

Often people think that the word same refers to identical. Of course, this is one possible meaning. But, it is not the only meaning. As an example, "For me, both my son and my daughter are the same." The above statement does not mean that I have a single child who is both a son as well as a daughter. It means that I give equal importance to both of them.

As you have posted, the translation is Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. The second part talks about keeping the law. Which law? In the context of Bible, the law here obviously means the law of God. That is why I think that vision here means the revelation of God.
