  1. According the manufacturer Miracle Gro contains potassium, phosphorus, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum and zinc. This looks like natural minerals but how they produce for example phosphorus? If they use animal waste (what they will never put open) like bones which contains a lot of phosporus it's surely offensive to use for Tulasi. Another disadvantage comes from the fact that these quick to dissolve nutrients are also quick to leave the soil and thus must be applied frequently, usually every 2 weeks. In fact the soil is disabled to store water anymore, water just runs through the soil very fast. If we consider that a Tulasi plant lives usually between 3-4 years... http://markswright.brinkster.net/SDGOnline/articles.asp?art_id=40 ...and you have to use that fertilizer regularly quite some extra costs. Again, high probability that slaughter house waste being used for the production of Miracle Gro is there. http://www.permaculture.org.uk/mm.asp?mmfile=permacultureinbritain ...says, never use any chemical fertilizer. From googling: Test below says Miracle Gro didnt help the growth of Chrysanthemums
  2. There seems to be a strong soldier out there in the dugout and strongly preaching bhagavat-dharma, pure devotional service to the Sheiks, without fear of losing his head: Kavicandra Swami, ki jaya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://kavicandraswami.info/gallery
  3. It is said in the Bhagavad-gita that even a little effort expended on the path of Krishna consciousness can save one from the greatest danger. And when we reach the goal we'll realize that the hard work of crossing this vast ocean of material existence was golden, the journey is the reward.....
  4. Hare Krishna - all glories to Srila Prabhupada Recently I read "The story of Tulasi devi" and the question came up - is this translation so to speak "bonafide"? Here some points which caused me to write this post, can this actually happen that prominent devotees in Goloka are cursed to take birth in this material world against their will?
  5. Jeffrey Rothfeder, (author of Every drop for sale ) , quoting a World Bank official, former Vice President Ismail Serageldin, reminded readers that "the next world war will be over water." In Israel, extraction has surpassed replacement by 2.5 billion meters in the last 25 years. Only the region's countries, the riparian states of Syria, Turkey and Iraq themselves have directly conferred on the issue of sharing the water of the Tigris and Euphrates. The United States cannot dictate water usage as a formal part of its foreign policy, or even legitimate the crisis surrounding clean water, in part because of its wholly unsustainable practices, and in part because a straightforward concession on the issue of dwindling water supplies would mean an complete overhaul of global diplomatic relations with a new emphasis on aquatic vulnerability. The dialogue about access to clean water is commonplace in peace talks throughout the Middle East, but Western diplomats rarely broach the topic. An anonymous U.S. State Department official quoted in National Geographic said, "people outside the region tend not to hear about the issue (of water). It just doesn't make the news." By design, not by accident, this issue is obscured from Western eyes because the propaganda machinery from Washington, DC has not allowed it. Although water is at the top of the list in negotiations between Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Palestine and Iraq. Published after the 9-11 terrorist attacks but prior to the recent war on Iraq, Peaceful Uses of International Rivers: The Euphrates and Tigris Dispute written by water rights expert Hilal Elver outlines the hydrohistory of the Fertile Crescent as well as the present challenges to settling the disputes between countries vying for water access in the 21st century. She notes that the "last trilateral meeting of the Turkish, Syrian and Iraqi technical committee was concluded in Damascus in 1996" with Iraq still under the United Nations-imposed sanctions regime which severely hindered international diplomatic relations. With the United States effectively in control of Iraqi politics and lobbying for the removal of the sanctions, presumably negotiations between the three nations will resume with respect to shared water issues. Closely tied to the disputes surrounding Iraq and Syria's water supply is the proximity to Israel. Syria faces water difficulties on its southwestern border as well in the water-rich area of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967. The Golan Heights has important water resources that, according to Professor Emeritus Dan Zaslavsky at Bar-Ilan University, if handed back over to Syria would mean that Israel loses nearly one-third of its fresh water. This cosmetic overture to feign regional fairness and non-partiality toward Israel in returning the Golan Heights to Syria does not mask the fact that the United States has strategic goals to control water and oil supplies in the Middle East. So, normally water and oil dont mix but in present Iraq war, water and oil do mix..
  6. Till yesterday the forums worked very slow and almost got stuck - now it loads real fast, more fast than the old audarya-fellowship board!
  7. Hare Krishna - all glories to Srila Prabhupada Just read "The story of Tulasi devi" and the question came up - is this translation so to speak "bonafide"? Here some points which caused me to start this thread:
  8. You're right - all conspirancies - the only remaining question, if he isnt alive where is he burried?
  9. There could be some truth to the story of archangel Lucifer when he depressed and poutful left the eternal kingdom of God. In the Garden of Eden there was Adam and Eve and by Lucifer's influence Cain took birth from Eve, actually Lucifer's son. With the descendants of Cain, the demons became established on planet earth: tat sadhu manye 'sura-varya dehinam sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat hitvatma-patam grham andha-kupam vanam gato yad dharim asrayeta Prabhupada: "My dear father..." And his father was materialist. Therefore materialists are called in Sanskrit language, asura. Asura. There are two kinds of human being all the time: asura and deva. Deva means human beings who are connected with the Supreme Lord. Their life is for realization of the Supreme Truth. They are called deva. Just like in higher planets, there are also living beings. They are called devatas, demigods, because their magnitude of pleasure is far, far greater than ours. But because they do everything in relation with the Supreme Lord, therefore they are called devatas, devata. Devata means demigods. And asura. Asura means just the opposite. They simply enjoy life for the matter of sense pleasure. That's all. So those who are interested in sense pleasure, they are called asuras, and those who are interested in unending spiritual pleasure, they are called devatas. Devata and asura does not mean that asuras are very ugly and devatas are very beautiful. Even the ugly man can become a devata, or even a beautiful man may become asura. That is due to his mentality. Because, after all, the soul is pure. When he is in unnatural condition of life, wants to enjoy simply the material senses, he becomes asura. So asura can be turned into devata. There is no hindrance...."
  10. Dear Mr Kumar, thanks for your kind post, indeed, present material advancement of human society is as such that there would be actually no more suffering in this world if the leaders of all the nations would adopt bhagavat-dharma or God-consciousness in their daily lives. Since Krishna is unlimited He can also provide everything unlimitedly whatever human society requires to live happily and peacefully. Whenever we notice scarcity it should be clear it is only scarcity in our knowledge, love and faith in Krishna and never in God's inability to provide for everything within His own creation. Vaishnava forums surely have the power to create worldwide communities with the goal to eliminate ignorance of Krishna's position as our eternal Father and give prosperity and opulence to all His children, materially and spiritually. Is there anything you would like to recommend to improve the educational quality of Vaishnava forums? Thanks, Mr Kumar!
  11. This story how Srila Prabhupada didnt want to hear more details cant be true either. When a sannyasi would ask what to do when fallen down, Srila Prabhupada wouldnt have him left without listening to everything what he said: "re-engage in devotional service is enough for atonement". Btw, did they leave Visnujana's body in the Ganga? Is this possible, that those sadhus left a dead body of a devotee in the Ganga?
  12. "Visnujana's Disappearance" This is the story of Visnujana Swami's disappearance from this material world, back to Godhead. I have talked to witnesses that heard and saw some of the things that led up to Visnujana's alleged suicide. Visnujana Maharaja was a very advanced sanyasi and he enlivened living entities moving and non-moving all over America and beyond. Before Visnujana joined the Hare Krishna Movement back in the 60's he had separated from his wife and daughter. He talked to them at the 1975 San Francisco Rathayatra for about an hour. Visnujana heard that it was considered a 'falldown' for him to talk to his ex-wife since he was a sanyasi. Although I'm sure Visnujana was pure in his intentions; he still felt guilty as charged. This bothered him for quite some time. He came to India for the 1976 Goura-pournima festival. Visnujana Swami approached Srila Prabhupada who was walking on his rooftop and asked him what a sanyasi should do if he 'falls down'. Srila Prabhupada answered that like Chota Haridas he should commit suicide. There were quite a few devotees crowded around Srila Prabhupada as he walked. Srila Prabhupada hesitated for a moment and continued; but in this age the atonement is to just re-engage in devotional service. Visnujana Swami didn't hear this part. He thought Srila Prabhupada had already answered his question and he faded to the back of the crowd. That night Visnujana disappeared. He went to where Chota Haridas, from Chaitanya lila, committed suicide at Prayag and paid a few sadhus to help him with the ultimate sacrifice. They chanted special mantras so that he would not talk a 'ghost body.' Then rocks were tied to his cloth and he jumped off the boat into the Holy Waters. The Sadhus went to the New Delhi temple and told them about the 'white sanyasi' and what had happened. As the news spread around the world we were/are all deeply saddened by the event. "Srila Prabhupada's Reaction" Srila Prabhupada was sitting in his new quarters in Bombay when Tamal Krsna Maharaja entered. He began to tell Srila Prabhupada about the disappearance of Visnujana Maharaja. TKG said that Visnujana had not applied for a new passport to leave India and he was sure the 'white sanyasi' that the sadhus who went to the Delhi temple, talked about was Visnujana Maharaja. At this point Srila Prabhupada appeared to weep. He turned his head and gazed out the window. He said, "He did not have to do that". TKG asked if Srila Prabhupada knew where Visnujana was. Srila Prabhupada said, "Visnujana was very advanced; he's still chanting Hare Krishna. He's very advanced"! It was obvious that Srila Prabhupada did not want to talk about it anymore as he tearfully gazed out the window. About two weeks later Srila Prabhupada told us that Visnujana was chanting to him in his dreams. (Just like Chota Haridas who chanted for Lord Chaitanya.) I felt good hearing this from Srila Prabhupada. Later I also had a dream about Visnujana. I was following him up a mountain trail when he stopped and turned to me and told me to wait. He said I was not ready to go yet. I stood and watched as my first spiritual mentor disappeared up the trail like Maharaja Yudthistira. For Visnujana; Jayananda and then Srila Prabhupada to leave the planet was a great loss for all of us. We can only remember their great pastimes and gain inspiration from that. Hopefully when it's time we'll be fortunate enough to join them again. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all of his devotees!
  13. May be the Muslims would agree to rebuild all those destroyed Hindu- and Krishna Temples read below), just a matter of diplomacy. http://www.newstodaynet.com/2006sud/06mar/1003ss2.htm In Volume I of this book, the authors gave a list of 2000 mosques that were built on Hindu temples. This list was based on the books of Muslim historians and the inscriptions of the mosques. Volume II of this book gave many excerpts from medieval Muslim histories and chronicles and inscriptions concerning the destruction of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples. The authors pointed out that all the materials presented in the volume II were only the tip of an iceberg. Hindu humiliation through the ages is a mild word if not an understatement. World famous history books beyond the purview of political revision or review by the Human Resources 'Destruction' Minister Arjun Singh clearly bring out the established fact of 'destruction and desecration' of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples and shrines by the Muslim marauders from 800 AD to 1700 AD. In many cases the resulting rubble was re-used to build a Masjid. Jammi Masjid in Ahmedabad is an instance in point. In some cases, the temple was converted into a mosque after destroying the idols and defacing all other human figures. Scrupulous care was taken to ensure that no face was visible with its nose in place. Adhai-Din-Ka Jhopra in Ajmer is another telling example in this context. Let me now come to Varanasi where there was a planned shower of 'secular' mercy two days ago. According to a Muslim chronicle, the mosque of Benares was built by the Mughal Emperor Alamgir Aurangzeb on the site of Bisheshwar Temple. That temple was very high and held as holy among Hindus. On this very site and with those very stones he constructed a lofty mosque, and its ancient stones were rearranged after being embedded in the walls of the mosque. It is one of the renowned mosques of Hindustan. A non-saffron and secular Christian evangelist called Mathew Atmore Sherring wrote Benares, The Sacred City Of The Hindus which was published in 1868. He belonged to the London Missionary Society. He wrote: If there is one circumstance respecting the Mohammedan period which Hindus remember better than another, it is the insulting pride of the Musalmans, the outrages which they perpetrated upon their religious convictions, and the extensive damage of their temples and shrines in Benares. It is right that Europeans should clearly understand that this spirit of Mohammedanism is unchangeable, and that, if by any mischance, India should again come into the possession of men of this violent creed, all the churches and colleges and all the mission institutions would not be worth a week's purchase. To the best of my knowledge, the RSS or the Sangh Parivar did not exist at that time. By saying this, am I giving some spectacularly seminal and secular ideas to Arjun Singh to be discussed in camera with the de facto Prime Minister so as to re-edit this book as well in the same way in which he is trying to re-write the Indian history textbooks of NCERT carefully tailored to suit the political purposes of the UPA government in New Delhi? All the Hindus consider Benares as their holiest city. Yet Aurangazeb thought it fit to change its name to Mohamedabad. After systematically demolishing the temple of Bisheshwar, who was regarded as King of all the Hindu Gods, Aurangazeb used the debris of the temple for the construction of his famous mosque. Mathew Atmore Sherring saw extensive remains of this temple which were still visible and formed a large portion of the western wall of the mosque which was built upon this site by the 'compassionate oppressor'. According to Sherring, the demolition of temples was not inspired merely by a hatred for idolatry or by greed for loot. It was solely driven by a desire to humiliate the Hindus. If the government of India and all the State governments do not wake up immediately to deal effectively with terrorism, it will not be wrong to conclude that the lurid tradition established by Aurangazeb would only get revived and enriched in the India of the future. When the cartoon jihad began, I was mildly interested. As it became obvious the cartoon jihad was an Islamic fundamentalist strategy to maintain control of their base, I became more interested. As people died, and property was destroyed in Lucknow, I became even more interested. As the UPA reacted with self-doubt, and cowardice, I became keenly interested - to the point of crying out a warning: 'Watch Out'. As Sir Winston Churchill once said: 'An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last.'. The latest terror attack on Sankat Mochan Temple in Varanasi gives an interesting example - it could be not the crocodile one feeds, but one watching you feeding it.
  14. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu never considered - wait a minute, this place is presently run by a Muslim government, do I want to appear there and teach the yuga-dharma of chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare - Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare? Today there are about 300 Mio Muslims in India and to relocate such a huge number of people is never possible. Actually Hindus also populate other places and are treated respectfully. Statistics:) According to the United States Department of State's International Religious Freedom Report 2004 [1], the number of Hindus in the United States is approximately 1,478,670, 0.5% of the population. The above figure consists of immigrants from countries where Hinduism is an indigeous belief and their descendants, as well as Americans who converted.
  15. Since Sanskrit language is a spiritual language which almost all Holy Books like Bhagavad-Gita, Bhagavad-Puranas, Vedas, etc are written this language is only meant to discribe that there is a God - Lord Sri Krishna! You wont find a Sanskrit verse saying, there's no God. Better take words from sloka below om namo bhagavate vâsudevâya janmâdy asya yato 'nvayâd itaratas' cârtheshv abhijñah svarâth tene brahma hridâ ya âdi-kavaye muhyanti yat sûrayah tejo-vâri-mridâm yathâ vinimayo yatra tri-sargo 'mrishâ dhâmnâ svena sadâ nirasta-kuhakam satyam param dhîmahi om--O my Lord; namah--offering my obeisances; bhagavate--unto the Personality of Godhead; vâsudevâya--unto Vâsudeva (the son of Vasudeva), or Lord S'rî Krishna, the primeval Lord; janma-âdi--creation, sustenance and destruction; asya--of the manifested universes; yatah--from whom; anvayât--directly; itaratah--indirectly; ca--and; artheshu--purposes; abhijñah--fully cognizant; sva-râth--fully independent; tene--imparted; brahma--the Vedic knowledge; hridâ--consciousness of the heart; yah--one who; âdi-kavaye--unto the original created being; muhyanti--are illusioned; yat--about whom; sûrayah--great sages and demigods; tejah--fire; vâri--water; mridâm--earth; yathâ--as much as; vinimayah--action and reaction; yatra--whereupon; tri-sargah--three modes of creation, creative faculties; amrishâ--almost factual; dhâmnâ--along with all transcendental paraphernalia; svena--self-sufficiently; sadâ--always; nirasta--negation by absence; kuhakam--illusion; satyam--truth; param--absolute; dhîmahi--I do meditate upon. TRANSLATION O my Lord, S'rî Krishna, son of Vasudeva, O all-pervading Personality of Godhead, I offer my respectful obeisances unto You. I meditate upon Lord S'rî Krishna because He is the Absolute Truth and the primeval cause of all causes of the creation, sustenance and destruction of the manifested universes. He is directly and indirectly conscious of all manifestations, and He is independent because there is no other cause beyond Him. It is He only who first imparted the Vedic knowledge unto the heart of Brahmâjî, the original living being. By Him even the great sages and demigods are placed into illusion, as one is bewildered by the illusory representations of water seen in fire, or land seen on water. Only because of Him do the material universes, temporarily manifested by the reactions of the three modes of nature, appear factual, although they are unreal. I therefore meditate upon Him, Lord S'rî Krishna, who is eternally existent in the transcendental abode, which is forever free from the illusory representations of the material world. I meditate upon Him, for He is the Absolute Truth.
  16. That's how politicians behave always - they leave you out in the rain (read below). Now, since the Indian government makes a drawback in that issue it should be clear that the whole claim of Iskcon Moscow to get that promised place to build a temple falls apart like a house of chards. Means, Britain's Hindus who also wanted to take action will be ordered to drop things like a hot potato. http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=16338 Ministry of External Affairs PROMOTION OF INDIAN CULTURE ABROAD -- Wednesday, March 08, 2006 13:04 17:22 IST Lok Sabha The Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Anand Sharma informed the Lok Sabha today that there are no restrictions on the practice and propagation of Indian culture in Russia. The ISKCON Temple in Moscow was functional from 1989 till June 2004 when it was moved to a new location in the city, with the consent of the Temple authorities. Subsequently, the Moscow Prosecutor General’s Office issued a ruling that the relocation order for the ISKCON Temple was not legal. It is understood that ISKCON representatives are working with the Moscow City Government to find a solution to their property related issue. The matter was taken up by the Government with the Russian authorities and consequently, it has been referred to the Moscow City Government. The Minister added that promotion of Indian culture and development of cultural interaction with the host country is an integral part of the activities of all Indian Missions abroad. The Government recognises the importance of cultural diplomacy in the attainment of India’s foreign policy objectives. It shall be the endeavour of the Government to further strengthen and expand the infrastructure and activities of Indian Cultural Centres abroad. Shri Sharma further informed that the Indian Council for Cultural Relations has established 18 cultural centres and 2 sub-centres for the promotion of Indian culture abroad. The Council has an ambitious programme of activities including scholarships, organisation of Indian cultural festivals, exchange of cultural troupes of performing artistes, organisation of conferences, seminars, lectures and exhibitions, publication of cultural magzines and journals, exchange of distinguished visitors, dissemination of print and audio-visual material on Indian culture, including through a new revamped website etc. This information was given by the Minister in reply to question by Smt. 17. Forget the hocus pocus, and just live your life.... Right any astrologer who speaks about death is a rascal........
  18. Vyenkata Bhatta dasa: "My faith comforts me that however heinous the lie, however traumatic the damage in its wake, the power of God's love is infinitely greater." This statement by Vyenkata Bhatta prabhu was made at 'Theologians discuss what lying means to society', today. But what about society falls prey to lie and is carried away? Isnt it up to saintly person to speak the truth and NOT foist it all on Krishna's arrangement?
  19. Since there's presently the worldwide Mozart (1756 - 1791) celebration of his 250th anniversary nothing can shed more light about the state of consciousness of this musical genius (started composing at age 5) than his understanding about death. Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-Gita: BG 8.5: And whoever, at the end of his life, quits his body, remembering Me alone, at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt. BG 8.6: Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail. BG 8.7: Therefore, Arjuna, you should always think of Me in the form of Krishna and at the same time carry out your prescribed duty of fighting. With your activities dedicated to Me and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without doubt. _____________ Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart surely had a brilliant intellect but when he wrote letter below at the age of 22 to his father about the sudden death of his mother, far from home, it becomes clear that many important points of vedic understanding about death were still unknown to him.
  20. Exclusion of Holy Cows from Alleghany Village BY: JYOTIRMOY DATTA /images/graemlins/smile.gif The Voiths, with calves Radhe and Shyama Feb 16, ANGELICA, NY (DESI TALK) — Hidden from the outside world by the Alleghany Mountains, the picturesque Village of Angelica in western New York is the scene of a test of American's traditional religious tolerance, a test reminiscent of the earlier struggles of religious groups such as the Amish, the Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses to find a place in the nation's multifaith quilt. Elevations range to over 2,000 feet in the hills that surround Angelica and feed a stream that makes its way past the village to the nearby Genesee River. Attracted by its charms, American Hindu couple Linda and Stephen Voith chose to make it their home, complete with their children and their hooved family members - the cows, Chintamani, Radhe, Shyam, et al, named after characters of Hindu song and legend. Stephen and Linda Voith and their children are followers of the Bhakti Hindu Tradition brought to America by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami, Prabhupada in 1965. Srila Prabhupada instructed his followers to find ways and means to inaugurate the Hindu tradition of protecting cows in America, because without protection of the cow, Brahminical culture cannot be maintained. Their neighbors, however, were taken aback by their treatment of the animals, whom the Voiths treated as if they were on the same footing as humans. The Village got an injunction expelling Chintamani and her brood from Angelica. The family's attorney, Ross Scott, told Desi Talk that the Voiths were denied Due Process and their right to a fair trial in 2003 when State Supreme Court Judge Michael Nenno refused to allow them to raise a First Amendment defense and dismissed the family's counterclaims against the Village for deprivation of religious rights. Scott, 68, an attorney who had worked for the government as a defense analyst till his retirement 11 years ago, said that he was appearing for the Voiths pro bono because he felt that the values that he had helped to defend from foreign enemies were at risk from insidious enemies at home. The judge did not allow even the mention of the word religion at the hearing on May 2 and 7, 2003. Judge Nenno said "if he heard one word about religion, he will hold be in contempt of court." "The Village of Angelica has no objection to the Amish going through the town on their buggies, or tying up their horses and stopping, but the Voiths were harassed for their oxen cart crossing a 10-foot lane," Scott said. "The former mayor, among others, seemed intent on running the Voiths out of the village for just their odd way of treating their animals." Scott said that they filed an appeal with the State Supreme Court, Appelate Division, in Rochester. His main brief had been filed on Dec. 16, the Village brief on Dec. 20, and his answering brief has tobe filed by Jan. 25. The opening oral hearing was set for April 3. He was convinced of winning the appeal because the Voiths were "well within the local law which says that if your property comprises 10 acres or more, you can have as many farm animals as you like." The Voiths, however, were regarding their appeal as a return to battle for their religious rights, not just a reassertion of their compliance with local laws. "We are trying to show an example of a simple Vedic lifestyle centering on nonviolence and the sanctity of all life," Linda Voith, told Desi Talk. "Our practices are meant to show a humane, responsible example of cow protection." "The Village allows a beef farm to operate right across the street from our home," says Steven Voith, "If they allow cows for secular reasons within the Village, they should allow religiously revered cows too." Chintamani, the Voiths's mother Jersey cow, came from an organic dairy near Ithaca NY. The Voiths say on their Website: ''She was pregnant when we bought her in 1999, and the next spring, she gave birth to the twins, Radhe and Shyama. We boarded her for 19 months at the beef farm that is across from our home. During her stay at the farm, she was bred by one of the farmer's bulls, and that is how we came to get Bheema, who is black and fuzzy, resembling a teddy bear when he wears his red halter. The most recent addition to our cow family is Krishna Preeya, Chintamani's latest calf, who is a plush, brown, Highlander/Jersey mix. We also have one goat named Roy, who was given to our daughter Kaitlin on her birthday, by a local woman who raises dairy goats.'' Stephen has been to India several times, and has two adopted children from Bengal, Christopher and Samantha. Linda has been trained as a Compost Educator, by Cornell Cooperative Extension in Ithaca NY, and is currently working towards a certification in The Bridge and Target Animal Training System, while training the family's cows and oxen. _______ Prabhupada explaining how to construct an inexpensive cart which lasts forever

  22. For years and years people all over Europe used to laugh about the Krishnas&their holy cow belief. Times have changed and Krishna has tricked all those fools&rascals to stop laughing and suddenly consider the cow as potential candidate to replace their "holy" oil which they exploit from mother earth like goddamned madmen. Scientists explain it now on TV, newspapers report it, Cowpower is in! -------------- http://www.green-trust.org/methane.htm .....The dairy cows at Haubenschild Farms produce 22,000 gallons of manure a day. That manure, in turn, yields about 80,000 cubic feet of “biogas” a day — enough to generate 3,000 kilowatt hours of electricity. How does it happen? It is microbe magic. http://www.eco-farm.org/sa/sa_dairy_synopsis_digester.html Cow manure, together with recycled newspaper bedding, is scraped from the freestall barn three times a day, mixed to a smooth consistency, then pumped into a 350,000-gallon covered digester tank, which looks like a long white sausage. There, the manure is heated to about 100 degrees F, speeding the action of beneficial bacteria in the tank. As bacteria break the manure down, they give off gas — mostly methane, which collects under the tank cover. After three weeks in the digester, the manure — now a lot less smelly — empties into a storage lagoon for later application to the farm’s 1,000 acres of cropland -------------- However, the materialists calculation of the total exploitation of Mother Cow and finally killing her just for sensegratification wont be tolerated by the laws of karma - karmic reactions will multiply. Now the time has come for all devotees to strongly preach against the scrupelous murder of cows and not get caught in that joint guilt by keeping quiet. 23. from Jayadvaita Swamis personal site http://www.jswami.info/computer YES, I’VE GOT ONE. Use it all the time. And I’ve been close to them for more than twenty years, since the days when we first computerized our typesetting. They save lots of work, and make the impossible possible. But they’re dangerous, devilish machines, and we use them at our peril. I’m not talking about low-level radiation, or the computer’s role in weapons of mass destruction. What I have in mind is its role in mass distraction. Here I am with a short human lifetime, and somehow, by good fortune, I’ve discovered it’s meant for spiritual realization. But for spiritual perfection one needs to focus tightly. One has to mold one’s life in such a way that one constantly remembers the Supreme, or Krishna. In the present age, therefore, the Vedic sages have recommended we focus our minds on the Absolute, on Krishna, through the chanting of transcendental sound, as found in the Hare Krishna mantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. As soon as we say “Krishna,” we’re at once in touch with Krishna, so meditation becomes very easy. We can chant Hare Krishna, talk about Krishna, hear about Krishna, remember Krishna, serve Krishna. And in this way we can absorb ourselves in Krishna consciousness and attain the perfection of life. But Maya says no—Maya, “the illusory energy,” the force whose job it is to distract us from what’s real and enchant us with what’s false, to draw us away from spirit and keep our eyes on matter. “Here,” she says, “have a computer.” And a wonderful thing it is. You can calculate, simulate, innovate, communicate. The French were perhaps the first to discover you can even use it to fornicate. (When France got its homes all wired up with the Minitel, a little box that tells you train schedules, checks your bank account, and whatnot, the clever French soon found more colorful uses—they came up with “la messagerie rose,” a sort of online brothel.) But even apart from la messagerie rose, the computer is an invitation to illusion. The Vedic sages say the main illusions we get hooked on are two: “I am the enjoyer” and “I am the controller.” And for being the controller, the computer is great. You give it instructions, commands. You figure out how to make it do things. You point and click. And soon, as with the television, as with the car, you think you’ve got a computer, but in fact the computer has you. Soon our minds are there, deep in silicon, preoccupied with chip speed, disk drives, memory, modems, operating systems, applications, upgrades, viruses, bugs. We meet with our friends and talk hardware, software. And what happened to spiritual realization? What happened to Krishna? Forgotten. For hours at a time, days at a time, entire lifetimes … Computers are great—like everything material, we can use them for Krishna. Then they have spiritual value. But as with everything material, we should use them with constant mindfulness of Krishna, or we’ll end up used by Maya. We need to stay focused undistractedly on Krishna, the ultimate goal of life. At the end of life, our computer won’t save us. Krishna will.
