    question

Don't waste your time trying to figure out how you got here. Spend your time working on how to get out and not come back. Chant!
  2. I have taken them and found them extremely helpful. They require dedication and hard study so you can not take them lightly. You don't want to waste anyone's time.
  3. I can't vouch for all the temples but most of the ones I have been in have chairs. You can choose to sit on a chair or on the floor. The Utah temple has lots of chairs lined up against the walls and most people use them while few sit on the floor. But to put in "pews" would be an inconvienance. Kirtans and offering spontaneous obeisances would be stifled.
  4. Let me reword this. Are you saying that you think if someone has not then it is Srila Prabhupada's fault? I am not challenging so do not get mad at me. I just want clarification on this statement you made. Yes, I like the sig also.
  5. As vegetarians and proponents of non-violence this source would seem wrong for us to use as fuel.
  6. By BETSY BLANEY LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - As oil prices soar, cow manure is getting more attention as an alternative fuel source, particularly in Texas, the country's biggest producer of cow patties. For years, researchers have studied manure as a fertilizer. But at a time when state and federal energy bills have called for increasing renewable energy sources, there is more focus on developing cow dung as an alternative to coal or natural gas. ``I see it as a valuable tool in our tool box,'' said John Sweeten, resident director of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in Amarillo. ``Sixty-dollar-a-barrel oil recruits a lot of interest in biomass. At $10-a-barrel oil, there's not much interest.'' The Panda Group of Dallas plans to fuel a $120 million ethanol plant set to open next year in Hereford with cow manure and other waste. The company said it will realize an energy savings equivalent to 1,000 barrels of oil per day turning manure and cotton gin waste into clean-burning fuel to power the plant. Biomass is renewable organic matter, such as manure and crops like corn, grain sorghum and soybeans, all of which can be processed into ethanol. ``Anything that's renewable and is at least competitive with other prices, it's better for everybody,'' said Donald L. Klass, director of Biomass Energy Research Association in Washington. With more cattle, dairy cows and hogs coming to the Texas Panhandle, and with farmers moving toward planting more dryland crops that demand less fertilizer, the potential for surplus manure is great. Nearly 5 million head of cattle come to about 100 area feedyards each year. While there, they produce billions of pounds of manure. ``It's almost too good not to use,'' said David Parker, a professor of agriculture at West Texas A&M University. Researchers at a feedlot are trying to figure out the best process and mix of manure to create the most useable heat and energy. A future research project will examine the use of manure from dairy cows which, like swine manure, requires a different process to capture the energy, Sweeten said. But cattle for meat outnumber other concentrated animal feeding operations in the Texas Panhandle. Sweeten said manure contains at best about a third to a quarter of the energy value as coal, so transporting it far from where it's produced is impractical. Thus, Sweeten said manure-generated energy would only be used regionally. ``You don't get as much bang for your buck'' with manure compared to coal, he said. 08/22/05 06:35
  7. Yes it is harmful to chant. It is harmful to our anarthas, illusions and material hankerings. But is it beneficial, transcedental medication for our eternal souls! Just because someone is initiated does not mean that they are not neophytes or that they chant without offenses, are not absent minded, hankering after results etc. Prabhupada says even a child can follow this process of chanting! Hare Krsna!
  8. No one can ever understand the inner dynamics of two individuals material relationship no matter how close and how well you might think you know them. So it is probably safe to say that the same would hold true with one's relationship with the Lord. She is strong enough in her convictions of her relationship with Lord Krsna to carry it to this "extreme" (some might say). So, she has realized her relationship - position with the Lord. Who are we to judge? I always admired this in the Catholic Nuns. They go thru the ceremony and received a wedding band in their marriage to Christ.
  9. Lucknow lady gets engaged to Lord Krishna Reddiff On The Net -April 10 1999 It is a classical case of childhood worship turning into love. And love -- selfless, impassioned love -- progressing to engagement. Now all that remains is the marriage. And, as per her schedule, 40-year-old Dr Snehlata Pandey will tie the knot with Lord Krishna in November. Yes, Lord Krishna. To whom she got engaged on April 6 in a simple ceremony at her Aishbagh road home in Lucknow. Dr Pandey, an insurance employee and member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, appeared on her engagement day in a plain maroon silk saree, sleeveless blouse and sandals. Sandalwood paste adorned her forehead. Her fiance was present in the form of a portrait. As devotional music flowed, the lady performed the tilak ceremony and exchanged rings with Lord Krishna. She touched her ring to the Lord's fingers and slipped it on. The one meant for her fiance, she stuck onto the portrait with dough. Dr Pandey's mother applied tilak to her to-be son-in-law's forehead and presented him with a gold chain, locket and cash. "There is nothing abnormal about my marriage," Dr Pandey says, "It will fulfill a 15-year-old vow. No other person is more perfect." A disciple of ISKON's Guru Yogendra Swami, Dr Pandey had taken on the name Shruti Devdasi. She said she consulted her guru about her engagement and had his blessings. "So many women in Mathura are living happy lives after taking the Lord as their husbands," she says. Dr Pandey's mother had initially opposed the idea of the holy act, but gave in. As for her brother and elder sister, they see no harm in the marriage "if it made her happy". Dr Pandey, for her part, is blissfully happy. And is looking forward to living happily ever after with her lord and master.
  10. I have literally heard this saying all my 50 odd years and never really thought much about it. Saw the verse today in some reading I was doing.
  11. Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." (King James Version) Is there a similar verse in the Vedas? Also, is this verse where the saying "Pride goeth before the fall." originated from?

I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro RS - last of the that body style so quickly becoming a classic. Also, have a 1971 Chevy 4 x 4 pick up with lift and big tires for bumping around off road. Although not techically a car but it is 4 x 4 and has four tires is my Polaris Sportsman ATV. Way fun to hit the trails with and chant in the wind!
  19. A staged event? Some say the same thing about the holocaust!
  20. If this is true then why isn't Silverstein in prison for the murders of thousands of innocent victims? How much did he have to pay the airlines to demolish their planes in the process of demolishing the buildings? Is Silverstein financing all the bombings etc around the world? Where the heck do you come up with this stuff? I think you fell off your base. Or are you joking? Yeah, that's it. You are kidding.
  21. I used to work at home for a now defunct devotee newspaper. The paper was based hundreds of miles from where I live so perhaps the suggestion to contact Alachua is not so farfetched. Maybe you could contact the LA temple and see if they need help mailing out annoucements or something like that. Or perhaps Govinda's International Imports needs help fullfilling orders.
  22. I have always enjoyed art but devotional art takes my breath away.
