TRANSLATION The Lord, being satisfied, instructed him about the object of life and the process for attaining it. He instructed him that the basic principle of success is to chant the holy name of the Lord [the Hare Krishna maha-mantra]. PURPORT The Krishna consciousness movement is based upon this instruction of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu that one must chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra regularly and according to the prescribed principles. We simply ask our Western students to chant at least sixteen rounds a day, but sometimes we find that they fail to chant even these sixteen rounds, and instead they bring many austere books and a worshiping method that diverts their attention in so many ways. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's cult is based upon the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra. Lord Caitanya first advised Tapana Misra to fix his mind on this chanting. We, the members of the Krishna consciousness movement, must strictly follow this advice of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. __ http://caitanyacaritamrta.com/adi/16/15/en1

TRANSLATION Resuming His external consciousness, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu told Sanatana Gosvami, "I have not spoken of what I intended. Lord Krishna is very merciful to you because by bewildering My mind He has revealed His personal opulence and sweetness. He has caused you to hear all these things from Me for your understanding. PURPORT Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu admitted that He was speaking like a madman, which He should not have done for the understanding of those who are externally situated. Statements about Krishna's body, His characteristics and His flute would appear like a madman's statements to a mundane person. It was actually a fact that Krishna wanted to reveal Himself to Sanatana Gosvami due to His specific mercy upon him. Somehow or other, Krishna explained Himself and His flute to Sanatana Gosvami through the mouth of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who appeared as though mad. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu admitted that He wanted to tell Sanatana Gosvami something else, but somehow or other, in transcendental ecstasy, He spoke of a different subject matter. __ http://caitanyacaritamrta.com/madhya/21/145/en1

Sorry about the lack of spacing: {goto the link} Becoming Mature in Krsna Consciousness It's time to become mature - high time. All around us the signs are clear. Crystal clear. The winter of kali-yuga is increasing its intensity. If we do not become mature soon, our life will freeze on the the banyan tree of this world. What exactly does it mean to become mature?Immediately two answers come to mind:1. to develop a new set of desires and a new orientation in life2. to become enjoyable for others.Let us consider the example of a young immature boy or girl. When they become physically mature, they see each other in a different light. Previously they had thought any member of the opposite sex as foolish, uninteresting and not good to play with. Upon physical maturity they develop a different outlook - they become attracted, even infatuated. And new, previously unknown desires arise in them. The same is true for a devotee who becomes mature. He or she will find new or previously unknown desires enter his or her mind. "Oh, I wish to really serve Krsna! Oh, I really wish to satisfy Him and when, oh when will I develop my relationship, my loving fulfilling relationship with the Lord."Often Krsna helps His devotee to mature by sending him a challenging situation which all of a sudden changes his perspective on life. At such a time new perspectives and desires arise in the mind. A little while ago I received the following very inspiring letter by a nice devotee who wrote a prayer to Krsna one day before a risky operation. As you will see the prayer is highly inspired by his reading the Saranagati of Bhaktivinodha Thakura:"I beg you, Krsna, when will the day come when I will stop committing offenses and Your holy name finally enters into my heart? When will I genuinely pray for the mercy of the vaisnavas? When will the tide of divine love overflow my heart?Because of my offenses, bad character and attachment to the opposite sex, this body has become an abode of pain and suffering. But even if through the operation I should get rid of the pain, as long as my soul is covered by impurities I will continue to act improperly and suffer the reactions.Oh, My Lord, when oh when will I get rid of my enjoying mentality? I am desperate, my body is exhausted from drinking the deadly poison of material desires. My mind is also exhausted. Dressed in the ropes of lust, I am expecting Your holy name to break through my layers and enter my heart. When will this cheater put down all his disguises and become your servant? When will the attachment for the beautiful members of the opposite sex turn into the swan of love for you?Oh, Krsna, I know that You are here beside me, even in this hospital. But again and again I forget You and repeat my best story - cheating myself and others. But please don't forget this fool that is still floating in the ocean of his material desires and emotions. I do not know if I will live the next morning. Please if I have to leave this body during the long night of pain (the writer refers to his operation), please give me the opportunity to remember You one more time."In this little article I would like to concentrate on another aspect of maturity: To become pleasing for others. Let us consider the example of a fruit which matures. Previously it was hard and sour, but upon maturation it becomes sweet and enjoyable for others. The same holds true for a devotee. He or she becomes the source of encouragement and inspiration for others and ultimately very pleasing for Krsna because of his or her service attitude. Not long ago, people in America wanted to find out who is actually happy in this world. The result was astonishing for them: They found out that those who serve others are the happiest people in the world. To illustrate this point, please allow me to present a little story which I wrote being inspired by a sufi story*Lessons From A Tea Cup - A True StoryOnce there was a young man, rather immature in his life, but ready to learn. He had a strong liking for antique things and was happy to visit different antique stores in all European countries he went to for holidays. Over the time he developed a strong interest in antique pottery and especially in tea cups. He felt - they all had their unique stories to tell.Once while he was in an old fortress in Serbia which had been partially transformed into a museum, he spotted an exceptional tea cup in a dusty antique store which clearly had Turkish influences. He asked the bespectaled seller:"May I see that exceptionally beautiful tea cup over there? It seems to come from Turkey..."As the man handed him the tea cup, our young man suddenly heard the tea cup speak up:"You don't understand," it said, "I have not always been a tea cup. There was a time when I had no idea what service meant. I was just a dumb lump of red clay. Let me tell you my story, you will learn from it. I've lived for many, many thousands of years. I've witnessed wars and peace coming and going. Whole civilisations rolled over me as I sat there waiting... For what I don't know."Then one day my master came. He took me, brought me home, rolled and pounded me on a wooden table. Again and again, he poked his fingers into me until finally I yelled out: ,Don't do that!' Imagine someone would take you like this. ,Leave me alone!' But he only smiled and gently said: ,Not yet!"The tea cup became more and more alive as he spoke to the shocked young man: "Then, whoommmm! I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly spun around and around and around until I lost all my sense of direction: ,Stop it, don't you see that I'm getting sick? Quickly, take me from the spinning wheel!' But the master only nodded in understanding and quietly said: ,Not yet!' He only bent me in and out of shape to suit his plan with me and then..."Then he placed me carefully into an oven. I never felt such heat. I yelled and knocked and pounded at the door: ,It is hotter than hell - I'm burning to ashes. Please get me out of here before it is too late.' I could see him through a tiny hole. I could only read his lips as he shook his head from side to side and silently pronounced ,Not yet!'When I thought I could not bear the heat for another minute, the door opened. He carefully took me out and put me on a shelf where I began to cool. It felt so good to be left alone."But more was going to come. After I had cooled down he carefully picked me up, looked at me and brushed some dust away. Then ... he brought the colours! And something transparent - the glaze. The fumes were horrible! I thought I would gag! ,Please,... you have no mercy! Don't you understand my misery? Please, please give up on me! Please! Stop it!'But he only shook his head and said: ,Not yet, you're not yet ready!'"Then unexpectedly and very quickly he put me back into the oven. Only it was about twice or trice as hot as the first time - this was the most intense. From the beginning I felt... this is my death... I begged... I pleaded ... I threatened ... I screamed ... Finally, I cried without tears. Not even hot tears. I was convinced I will never make it. I was ready to give up."Just then - in the last second as I was slowly fainting, the door opened and he took me out. And again placed me on the shelf - where I cooled and waited... and waited ... and waited."What was going to be next? An hour or later he came back and placed a mirror before me and said: ,Look at yourself!' And I did."What I saw, amazed me. It is what you see now. ,That's not me!' I said. That cannot be me... It is too beautiful, too ...""With a very compassionate voice he spoke: ,This is what you are meant to be.', and then he explained: ,I know it hurt you when I rolled and kneaded you on the table. But if I had not gotten the air out of you, you would have broken.'"I knew you must have lost all your sense of orientation when I was spinning you. But without this you would never have come into this form. I know the fumes of the colours in the glaze were intolerable when I painted you all over. But if I had not done that, you would not have had any colour in your life and you would not have hardened. And when I placed you in the second oven I knew that this would be the most severe part. But without it you would have broken very easily when the realities of life would have come. Believe me, all I did was for your good. Now you are what I had in mind when I first saw you on the ground. Now you are a finished product."With this the tea cup stopped speaking - but there was a tear of gratefulness coming from its beautiful rim.The young man purchased the tea cup and only used it when he offered something to God. He never forgot the lesson he received from it. And whenever he himself was in a difficult situation and he felt like calling out ,Stop it! Leave me alone!', he remembered the words of the tea cup maker: "Not yet...!" However, he also became grateful - for he knew that everything that happened was designed by the Lord to make him what he was meant to become: a pleasing servant. And he had trust. God knows what He is doing for each of us. He is the potter and we are the clay. He will mold us and make us ready. And He will expose us to just enough pressures of just the right kinds that we will become a perfect piece of His liking. http://www.saranagati.net/index.php?id=1

Actually I never checked. I just hoped somebody would tell. How lazy am I?

I don't see anymore point in groaning. Most of Prabhupada's Books esp. Gita are there. Also you could try memorizing the Sanskrit {word-for-word}. Prabhupada Purports is sastra is incorrect. Sastra is sastra {Vedas}. So when Guru speaks He speaks on Sastra, so this is something else. So also Prabhupada said don't change His books. So this is as you say Sastra. I feel changing to get closer to what Prabhupada 'says' is nice. Personally I would much prefer leaving them as they are. Because you have to be Uttama-adhikari to change books. Or have the Uttama-adhikari devotee present to see what you are doing. This I feel. For example I could not just go along and edit a Vaishnava's book without them seeing. If I was to say something different {by different I mean realized through the person editing} then that's ok I feel. Also main problem with changes is these books which Prabhupada wrote were in 1960's so they are indeed according to time. So they are present for now. So maybe they should just leave then alone. I mean Prabhupada did specifically state many times not to change. I cannot recall or hear any Vaishnava saying this same thing over and over again. They may present many reasons. But fact is we don't want them changing. Neither do we care for any 'mistakes'. When I open a Prabhupada Book in 500 years I want to know this is authentic. Not edited millions of times. Just leave them as they are. In fact we all would be respected more for being strict in this small matter. Prabhupada books are corner stone in history. They are the Chaitanya tree of Kali-yuga. Also edit means to change as well. And what does change mean? This all said and done I came to KC by reading 2nd Edition Bhagavad-Gita As It Is. So to tell you the truth. The main thing is individual needs as well. If you want Original Authentic Pre 1977 Editions etc. Then they are there. Go out and buy them. Also you have a huge collection of sravanam Lectures. But what can we minions really do. Its all in Chaitanya's hands:)

I think nobody read it before. So here goes Title: "Again our level is to be adhered at all times" By Pankaja Dasa Jaya prabhupada!!! Pankaja Dasa Dasa of Devotees: Everything has consciousness down to the Trees, Cows, Plants everything is Conscious, we all omit a shadow while in the presence of The Conscious Suns. This also is a shadow of Superior Consciousness? Whether we are highly conscious or on a low level, indeed consciousness is of different varieties is it not? Going back to the example of the trees, they are conscious beings, but we do not have their consciousness. So the questions we need to ask ourselves is, can we exceed our present consciousness? What is it that is the controlling principle of consciousness? These are intelligent questions which lead us up to our present conviction of whether a soul can indeed exist. Lets think for a moment again about material consciousness, this could be emitted via a higher being. Just as the Sun in its vastness emits a shadowy representation on this Planet we call the earth. So our bodies must be controlled via a conduct which is in turn emitted from its own consciousness. Indeed this chain must be extending to a Supreme Conscious being. This may not make sense at first. But considering our own conscious thoughts. We can either neglect/reject/or throw away, but we cannot neglect our consciousness. We are indeed conscious of the fact there are beings even on this planet who have higher thought patterns than out own. Whence these are coming from? Who is giving God knowledge to beings but ourselves? And not me? The secret must be in the fact these beings have realized by factual adherence to make their consciousness enlightened. **Conscious to the fact they are conscious! They are not these shadow emitted by the soul. But how can this be? We are not these bodies? What is the secret in not being these bodies? The answer is a very simple one, spirit as a principle needs a tool to work with. The body is a tool. Only a tool. In its higher consciousness the soul requires a body which is conductive to its own realization. So in higher consciousness we change our bodies, this may be hard to believe, but lets look at other creatures, according to their own realization they have acquired these bodies. So we may ask am I the master of my own destiny? Yes. This question is an intelligent question. Individual consciousness is felt throughout the creation. Oneness is a myth created by beings who want to destroy varied emotions in spiritual exsistance. Almost like an voidness of all things pleasurable. But in a state of Eternality, this can be felt by locking yourself in a room with a TV set, its not reality but you may feel eternal in the fact you are watching something special. So this is also our position. We are outside watching inside. That doesn't make any sense. But this is because of our lower consciousness. We must somehow be in knowledge that we are not these bodies of matter but eternal conscious beings of complete purity. But whence this knowledge will come? Who can provide this crying of knowledge which is our very nature of being. Is there anybody who has actually realised this? Bhagavad-Gita says: Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth. Bg.4.34 But why is this being conscious and not me? And how is it that he can provide me with anything? Why should I go to any 'human being'? In actuality this person has realized his own nature as the servant of the Supreme Consciousness. So he is using his body as a mere tool for the Supreme Consciousness. This is the aspirants goal. Consciousness also has collieries like happiness/sadness/etc. One of the most highest in material life is sex pleasure which even the dog and cats have access to. But the goal of the Higher Conscious beings is to have a kind of a communion of Consciousness with the Supreme Consciousness. Like a mellow {spiritual feeling also called 'rasa' or taste.} This is what spiritual aspirants desire to have. This is their goal to taste the sweetness of the Supreme Consciousness which is missing in their own spiritual nature. Now I am using spiritual nature not material. Supreme Consciousness can only be described as spiritual. We are not talking of a shadowy representation. This is the Consciousness of consciousnesses. He is alone conscious. So where does this leave us? Again our level is to be adhered at all times. To a scholar Supreme Conscious means 'He knows all'.--means He is throughout the creation. This means Supreme Consciousness is so vast it cannot but spread its own nature like a Dam that's burst its banks. While the bank itself is still in its own Original position. This is Transcendental position 'The Supreme Consciousness created His own self to be spread throughout the creation, But being in reality with His own self He discontinued to destroy His very own nature as an Original Person.' Eternality cannot be destructive force, it only know Eternal Nature. So this means the world is a shadow representation of some 'other' nature? That we cannot perceive in our own consciousness. The problem is our minds are materially contacted so this/they cannot elevate themselves into Higher Consciousness. This is true for all beings. Any amount of mental speculation cannot reveal our true selves. This is beyond our own capability. Because we are in low consciousness. So we must take the Supreme Consciousness. But how can we 'take'? Lets look at Supreme Consciousness it is everywhere. But still as we said before is situated as Himself. So He is indeed within every pore of your own body. He is within the sky, water, earth, ether, everywhere. There is not a place in existence where He is not to be found: The Supreme Consciousness! One without a 2nd. He is Himself Creation personified. Purusha. The Supreme Autocrat. The master of the senses {which includes our own minds}. This is the reality of Supreme Consciousness, so one may ask 'well then how do I realize this Supreme Consciousness?' As conscious beings we have the will to call somebody by their name 'Oh Mother, father, son, Richard, Panthak, Bhai!. Supreme Consciousness is described by the actions He commits to Himself. He Himself creates His own name. He is the name personified. The Name cannot but be separated from Himself at any moment. Consciousness of His name being separate from Him does not exist. Its as if His name and His form have merged in collaboration of their being in harmony with each other! This is astonishing! So by repeating His name we can perceive of His own existence. Requirement is vast. Supreme Consciousness is very merciful. Him being and knowing alls faults. The position is for our own doing to show feelingly we require some assistance. Remember we are dealing with a Conscious being, not some dead matter. Chanting the name requires on our own part feeling. Otherwise it becomes a mere repetition. The name is both the key and the lock. Don't become locked become the key, how much enthusiasm you have to open the Supreme Consciousness mercy? Mercy is also the key word. Conscious beings are Conscious of the Supreme Being, who in turn is rapt in attention at the Higher conscious beings devotion to He Himself. So its behoves us to approach these amazing Conscious beings. And ask them and serve their instructions. They can indeed shower mercy upon you. The Supreme Consciousness is not privy to our plight as much as when we approach the Higher Conscious beings. And serve them with all our hearts and keep them hidden within. This is the secret of success the Supreme Consciousness is just that Conscious. It requires that we meet this being. We don't require to worship anybody expect the links than He has created viz His Name, His own devotees. Creation of His name and His own devotees sounds a bit contradictory, but we are not to come to knowledge until the day the Full name manifests on our tongues, until this moment our position is of hardly any importance. Because the sweetness is in the Name. Because we are conscious beings we can have a little mingling taste of this Holy name. Even our own body dances as a prelude to the ecstasy the soul feels at hearing this Supremely Conscious Name. Indeed the name carries all the secrets of success this is the most important point. It abides in the hearts of Pure Devotees, its full extent, merging the hearts into rapture and showing them the form of Godhead which they have been thrusting for generations! Who can this be, who is it? You may ask yourselves. How can I also feel this? This is intelligent questions. And this will happen again and again. Our consciousness is not steady neither right now in any communion with Supremacy. So we must steady it by factual adherence to certain principles. These act as a fire to conditional life. It burns it up. If your diseased you don't ask yourself whether you should take medication. This is an requirement, you must do it! Today or tomorrow we must get medicated. That's not even an issue to be raised upon. This is a mere fact which your can comprehend for yourself. We are thirsting for some enlightenment. Which gives us a clue to our existence in this vast creation. Which ever way you look at it. There is only one solution: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!

I thought might as well read it. Looked so long. Glad I did so, gives a whole new meaning to trind api suicena.. I must say from this I did learn few things. I mean what Tolerance, Humility, Pridelessness in this devotee. I am not being personal in this regard to Pritha Prabhuji, I am only saying that her dedication to serve Prabhupada despite everything is amazing. This is kind of thing you like to read to get inspire you to do more. {I couldn't used more colourful language but well, lets just keep that in my mind hehe} Also makes me see what senior devotees went through in those days, such hardships and dedication. But as a final note I want to give my personal view on Preaching, that even if I preach to one person in 1000000000000000000 billion trillion years x 10000000 billion x 10000000000000000000 x infinity x 1000000000 x infinity and have NO other opportunity. I don't care. But never offend a Vaishnava in the process. For what is the gain????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

THE MAGNANIMOUS NATURE OF NITYANANDA PRABHU Sri Nityananda Prabhu is supposed to be the incarnation of Baladeva in Vrajamandala. Narottama dasa Thakura says Balaram haila Nitai. Sanatana Goswami also mentions Nityananda Prabhu as the incarnation of Baladeva in Vrindavana, but some persons within the Gaudiya Sampradaya preach that Nityananda Prabhu is the incarnation of Radharani. So, a vehement protest is given from the side of the Gaudiya Math and we cannot recognize them as the true followers of Gaudiya Vaisnava faith and Mahaprabhu. Nityananda Prabhu took His birth in the district of Virbhum on the Western side of Katwa, north west of Ekachakra, where the Pandavas in disguise lived for sometime. Nearby is also shown a tree where the Bakaraksasa was killed by Bhimasena. In Ekachakra near Garbhavasa and many other places, we can trace the pastimes of Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananda Prabhu's son established a temple nearby, and Srimurtis were installed by Him. About two hundred years ago there was a great storm in that area and many ancient arrangements were devastated. A big Zamindar and devotee of the Gaudiya Sampradaya, came and restored the puja, the worshipping arrangements at Virachandrapura. All were desolated at that time. Give Your Son Nityananda Prabhu's mother's name was Padmavati, and His father's name was Hadai Pandita. Ojha was their title although now we do not find any such title. When Nityananda Prabhu was about 12 years old one sannyasi came and begged Hadai Pandita for his son, "I want your son". The sannyasi came and begged for the child, only one son, and a son like Nityananda Prabhu who was very charming. It was almost impossible to live bidding goodbye to such a son, but what to do? A sannyasi has come and asked for him and begging they could not avoid; they could not avoid the sannyasi. they had to give their only son to him. We are told, that sannyasi was no other than Sri Madhavendra Puri, the guru of Iswara Puri, Advaita Acharya, and Pundarika Vidyanidhi. That sannyasi came and took Nityananda Prabhu away from his house when he was only 12 years old; and Nityananda Prabhu wandered with him through the whole of India, visiting all the holy places. Mahaprabhu did not visit so many holy places. He generally travelled through the south of India, not northern india entirely, only Vrindavana and Prayaga. Dvaraka and Badrinarayana were excluded by Mahaprabhu, but Nityananda Prabhu visited all the holy places that exist in india. After Madhavendra Puri disappeared, he was wandering in the holy places. In the meantime Mahaprabhu, coming back from Gaya, began his Sankirtana Lila in Navadwipa. Searching For Each Other Nityananda Prabhu was wandering here and there and lastly he went to Vrindavana. He was searching for something because of His inner identification with that of Baladeva. When Krishna came he was feeling some tendency of attraction towards him. In the last period, he began searching in Vrindavana very scrutinizingly but did not find that. Then he got some inspiration, "Where to find Krishna ?" 'He's now in Nabadwipa'. "I shall go there," with this inspiration in his heart he came to Navadwipa Dhama. Mahaprabhu had already begun his sankirtana movement, and he had a dream at night that someone came in a chariot and at the peak of the chariot there was a palm tree; and he is searching, "Where is Nimai Pandit's house? Where is Nimai Pandit's house?" Someone then said, "Here is Nimai Pandit's house". Mahaprabhu then told to the devotees. "A great personage has come here to Nabadwipa Dhama last night. You (Srivasa and others) try to find out that great person". The followers tried their best, they searched in every nook and corner but could not find Nityananda Prabhu. They reported to Mahaprabhu, "We tried our best but could not trace any noble person, any saint, or any big man". Then Mahaprabhu told, "Let us try with the followers". He then went straight to the southern side of Nandana Acharya's Bhavan. Mahaprabhu went directly to a particular house which is known as Nandana Acharya's house, and there they found a new gentleman, stout and strong, and godly in appearance, sitting on the veranda of that house. The devotees of Mahaprabhu could then understand him to be the man of whom Sri Gaurangadeva was telling about. He was sitting there in red robes, all others were white dressed. Someone then chanted some Bhagavata sloka, and so many spiritual symptoms gradually appeared in His body. They could then understand what a great man he is for he was filled with divine love. He was the agreed personage and gradually coming in intimate connection with him they could understand that he was Sri Nityananda Prabhu. Outwardly his movements were not like a scholarly person, or an ordinary man; he was surcharged with a high type of energy and divinity coming forth from his complexion. Mahaprabhu gradually began preaching. Haridasa Thakura and Nityananda Prabhu were both given orders. "Go from door to door and request them to leave everything aside and take the name of Krishna. Whomever you may meet going from door to door, approach and ask them to take the name of Krishna leaving aside everything else." The Tantric's Trick At that time Nabadwipa Dhama was mostly filled with tantrics, that is the worship of Sakti Devi and Maya Devi. The tantrics say, "This Maya is disturbing us, so we must take shelter under her feet. When she will be propitiated and satisfied then she will loosen, open the door and we will get out and become Shiva. By nature, by birth, jiva means Shiva, Shiva means the the master of Maya. We are now in the clutches of Maya, misunderstanding. When the goddess of misunderstanding is satisfied with us, she will then withdraw and we shall find a door out, we shall go to the other side. There are so many liberated souls there and we shall join them. They are all enjoying the position of Shiva, the master of Maya. Maya cannot force them to do anything and everything as she wills rather she serves her masters. Maya serves Shiva, the liberated souls. Maya serves them though in the relativity of Maya but they cannot control so they render some service to the liberated souls and they are known as Shiva. Pasa baddho bhavet jiva pasa mukta sadasiva. When within bondage he is jiva, a fallen soul, when he is outside the bondage of this Maya, this misunderstanding, then he's always Shiva. He can then move here and there at his sweet will and Maya cannot force him, rather she will come to serve him, and that is liberation. We shall then serve Maya devi and the tantric process involes something, in this way she will be satisfied." They use many things, they may drink wine and eat meats. They offer them to the deities Maya, Sakti and Kali. They also enjoy the women in different moods. They think that the application of mixing with ladies is such, that they will get liberation from the charm of the ladies. In this way in their process, they approve of the wine, the meat and the ladies - it seems to be very harmful to us but these are the underlying principles of the tantric upasana. "In our method, our process of approaching these things which we feel temptation for, we shall get liberation from them. They come to attract us towards them but by a particular process we shall handle them. We shall be masters of those poisonous things." Positive Alternative At that time Nabadwipa was filled with such tantrics. Mahaprabhu Sri Gauranga began his preaching, attempting to convince everyone to give up everything and take to chanting the name of Krishna, Narayana. He then said, "Not only will you be out of Maya but you will attain positive life in Vaikuntha in Vrindavan. That is higher attainment, and what is to be attained by worshipping the sakti in the method they are following, that is reactionary and sometime again they will have to evolve." This is mentioned in the sastra, but not very extensively. If you are very particular then you will have to see that the relativity of this negative world is not safe. You must enter the positive world, then you will be safe. That is not only mere liberation, emancipation from the opposite forces, but practical participation in the serving line, which is very pure. Not to be non-selfish, but one must be God-centred. God-serviced. The positive world is there and that is full of pervasive happiness, and that we can attain only through service. Here we are an enjoying unit, an exploiting unit, but it must be given up to get out of the reactionary tendency of life. But we must not wait on the fence, for that is not a safe position. Automatic Stage Then again, that is not saying much because withdrawal from the negative side is not enough. There is a positive world and that is meant for a real high form of life, and that can be attained through service. Service is great, to sacrifice one's own interest, not for any part but for the whole, the absolute good, that is great. Nothing can be compared to that. It is not calculative but automatic. To reach the automatic stage of service with love is high pay: so give up all these habits and these former engagements with a lower standard of worshipping, penance and all these things. "Die to Live." A radical change must be welcomed in life. Life is worth living, life is worth living and it is only open to the human section. In other species it is impossible to get a glimpse of such high light and to begin that way of life, for there are only a very few human beings in the creation. What are the number of human bodies, very small compared to the whole of creation, and that is the door to heaven so you must try to have a positive life. He is Krishna. He is all attractive. He is beautiful, He is the highest reality, He is all accommodating and most charming. Our life will receive it's fulfillment if we can approach that Lord, especially by taking His holy name. In this age of Kali a special sanction has been given to us that by taking the holy name with satsanga, with the real saints, then we can make progress, enter and approach that high line of preaching. Jagai And Madhai Nityananda Prabhu was a dynamo of energy and Haridasa Thakura could not follow, a little trouble to carry out the order of Mahaprabhu, what to do? One day there were so many gunda type persons, they came with an attacking spirit, "You are disturbing us, we are not religious and you have come to preach religion to us: what right have you got? Why do you come to disturb us? As a big society we are following a particular creed, and you are so bold as to blame us for not being religious men. You have come with a new idea of religion and we are to accept that, you fools! If again you come here you will be taught a good lesson". In this way they were threatened, but Mahaprabhu still says you must go. Then one day they met Jagai and Madhai. Jagai and Madhai were from brahmana birth but they did not have any care for religion. They were also entrusted with some administration in the Muslim Government. They had some connection with the Government and they themselves were gundas, also brahmanas by birth. They used to take anything and everything, they were a notorious pair of gundas, Jagadananda and Madhavananda. We Are Not To Use Force Then one day they met him "Oh! you rogues we have heard of you, you have come to create a new religion here - never! If we find you again on the street you will receive a licking and will have to weep". Anyhow, they were given such warning. Nityananda Prabhu had to report every day what progress they had made in their preaching campaign and he almost challenged Mahaprabhu. He said, "Our life was saved today from the worst pair in the whole of Navadwipa Dhama, but if you can deliver them, then I shall think that vou have really come to render some service. They are the greatest rogues ever found in this area and must be converted. If you can do that then we shall say that you have got some power with some objective, and you will be able to do something". Mahaprabhu felt, "if it is Krishna's will then everything will be possible." They again went out preaching and they met those two gundas, Haridasa Thakura coming back and Nityananda Prabhu stood courageously. There was an earthern pot cast away after use on the side of the way. It was taken and thrown on the head of Nityananda Prabhu and his forehead was cut, blood oozing, Nityananda Prabhu standing. Some person came to Gaurangadeva saying that Nityananda Prabhu was wounded by the rogues. Mahaprabhu very enraged and excited came there. There was blood oozing, "Who has caused this wound on the body of Nityananda Prabhu ? I shall finish the whole town, come forward". Mahaprabhu was besides himself. Then Nityananda Prabhu came, "No! No! Don't be excited my Lord. In this incarnation we are not to use any force. Remember it". Mental Transformation In the meantime there approached another and told "No, no! They are red-clad mendicants - what fame is there is striking them? They are not wholly established rich men or party men, only red-clad sannyasis, there is no credit by killing them or beating them," and they took Jagai and Madhai away. Nityananda Prabhu then appealed to Mahaprabhu. "What to do, this is not proper. In this age, in this time, at this juncture what have we come to do, use force? Never". In the meantime Madhai came to hit Nityananda Prabhu but Jagai saved him by just opposing him and Mahaprabhu turned around suddenly, "You Jagai, you have protected my Nityanada." Mahaprabhu then embraced him and Jagai fell at his feet and began to cry "Hare Krishna". Mental transformation came in Jagai. Then Madhai who was standing said, "For this deed we two are such great sinners yet Jagai's condition is now such". In that very atmosphere his transformation also began. Nityananda's Recommendation Then Nityananda Prabhu came to recognize that in the same place with similar persons, one will gain and the other will fail and so he thought Madhai must also be saved. Then Mahaprabhu said, "Nityananda Prabhu himself is pleading for you, and so you Madhai, you should also be absolved. Mahaprabhu then embraced him, he also fell, began to weep, and take the holy name Krishna and there was wholesale conversion of these two great demons. There was within minutes an uproar in the town. "Who is this Nimai Pandita? A scholar, so far we can understand, but he is endowed with supernatural power. These two great demons, whoever they came across, or whoever would see them would enter their homes and close their doors, such demoniac persons they were, and they were converted by Nimai Pandita within one hour, what miraculous power." So in this way Nimai Pandit got some footing there. Nimai Pandit is not an ordinary man, he is not merely a scholar but he is endowed with some supernatural power, original power. Nityananda Prabhu was famous from that time. Although he was hit on the forehead and blood oozed still he had so much of an extraordinary, patient, forbearing and affectionate heart, that he recommended that gunda who had caused him mischief. Nityananda Prabhu's position was very safe and very high, a divine position from that time. Nityananda Prabhu has neither an exploiting nor enjoying mood, He is wholesale given to Krishna. Perfect Servant Santana Goswami has given this in his commentary: In the rasa lila of Krishna, Krishna was enjoying all the gopis, at that time Balarama also had his separate rasa lila. It is also mentioned in Bhagavatam and other puranas, that Krishna had his rasa lila and that Baladeva also had his rasa lila but Sanatana Goswami has given the meaning. That is very fine, very subtle and very difficult to understand. Baladeva continued rasa externally, but in his heart he was making Krishna to participate in that rasa. He was not the party to enjoy the gopis. He is aloof, he is aside, he is only performing, managing the rasa lila with the gopis and Krishna. He is not only indifferent but with so much serving tendency and wholesale serving attitude. United In Service In Vrindavana mandala in vatsalya rasa and sakhya rasa, they also have marriages, they have their sons, but not in any enjoying mood. There is union of men and women but not in an enjoying mood, or then they will have to be left here in the material world. Both parties meet and are united in a serving mood, that is particularly another type of mood, never an enjoying mood, or then they are not to be allowed to einter that domain. They will be thrown here in the land of exploitation. When they go through the door of emancipation, liberation and enter Vaikuntha, from there also the exploiting tendency is eliminated, what avoidance! They are outwardly participating but internally in a serving mood. It may be impossible to think, but it is such, not only the human form but also the birds and beasts, they are also apparently mixing in an enjoying mood, but really their mood is of service attitude. Such a wholesale transformation has to be effected in one's heart, mind and body, before wholly attempting to enter into that domain. So Hegel said, "Die to live". If you really want to live in that plane then you will have to die wholesale as you think you are in this life as flesh, blood and bones. It is of opposite type, the purity is there, it can be measured ; it is not non-scientific but it is really scientific. It is the process of 'die to live'! And love is there, the dying tendency for the object of love, that is love proper, otherwise imitation, it is hypocricy, it is conspiracy to one's own attainment. The Last Gift The pure thing is that if we have got faith for such divine conception of life then we should come to Bhagavatam, the last gift in the sastric world of Vedic literatures. Vyasadeva's last gift in the world of Vedic literatures is Bhagavatam. The Bhagavatam is so high, so high, prithi vite yata katha dharma nam chole. Our Guru Maharaja's translation of dharmah projjhito kaitavo explains that of all the words and tales that are running in this world in the name of religion, Srimad Bhagavatam says that all is false, all is false, all is tampered with and not pure, not pure! The pure type of religion is not yet spoken. It is there, all self-centered, the current is towards the centre, not only selflessness but self-sacrificing, self-forgiving, self forgetfulness, in that way we are to start, we are to start, we are to go." Rolling At The Door Sri Nityananda Prabhu came and applealed, "Come to Gauranga, He is the depot, He is the dynamo to send you there very easily. He sang these names of Gauranga on the banks of the Ganges. Bhaja gauranga, kaha gauranga, laha gauranga nam je jan gauranga bhaje se amar prana; all you people come and take refuge under the divine feet of Gauranga, give up everything and come fall at the feet of Gauranga, give up everything and come fall at the feet of Gauranga. Take His name, remember Him and throw yourself wholly at His disposal. He is my own life, I consider Him to be my life, my soul, my everything." Nityananda Prabhu saying this began to roll at the door of the householder, "Householders! you must do this." He is rolling and crying, "Accept Gauranga, you don't know what great benefit you will receive by doing this." He is rolling in the dust at the door of the householders with such an appeal. He came to the ordinary masses to give them shelter at the lotus feet of Gauranga, that is Nityananda Prabhu. He came to give Mahaprabhu even to Jagai and Madhai and he appealed to all from door to door to accept Gaurangadeva. You do not know what will be your prospect in life, the highest prospect in life! Nityananda's Mercy Nityananda Prabhu is our only hope, He is so benevolent, so generous, so gracious, that very easily we can draw his attention and we can get his recommendation. Gauranga Deva will not be able to disregard his recommendation, and when we have got the grace of Gauranga then the Radha-Krishna lila is within our fists. Nityananda Prabhu's grace means to get Mahaprabhu's grace within our clucthes and to get Mahaprabhu, means to get Radha-Govinda. Vrindavana, and then everything is within our fists. Spoke to a Christian fellow on a chat room and said Thats Bible it says "Thou shalt not kill", I gave evidence like killing for the tongue is sense gratification. And that everything even trees have consciousness. I provided quite good material for this guy. But still he was adament that eating meat was ok. What can you do eh? I mean you'd have to be on another planet to see that it holds some kind of sinful reaction. Even a little? Tell me who do you convince? Or should we not even bother.

Krsna consciousness is not for everyone?

*Bhagavad Gita As It Is Chapter 12.9-Devotional Service My dear Arjuna, O winner of wealth, if you cannot fix your mind upon Me without deviation, then follow the regulated principles of bhakti-yoga. In this way you will develop a desire to attain to Me. Purport extract: This practice of bhakti-yoga, under the rules and regulations, with the direction of a spiritual master, will surely bring one to the stage of love of God. __ This instruction is to you and me. Devotees are: submissive, sincere, humble, surrendering, faithful. Just by talking to you on this forum I can feel your devotion. Now that's something.! By associating with devotee who already have these qualities they will abide in your own mind-set. This is a fact. BR Sridhara Maharaja In Gita says.. For example, if one engages in the general public welfare work of opening or running a hospital, if some service is even unknowingly rendered to a Vaisnava, one's devotional merit begins (ajnata-sukrti). ____ iccha-desire; Krishna uses the word desire He says you will develop. By Bhakti-yoga *principles. Now what is Bhakti-yoga: Sb.2.3.10 akamah sarva-kamo va moksa-kama udara-dhih tivrena bhakti-yogena yajeta purusam param TRANSLATION A person who has broader intelligence, whether he be full of all material desire, without any material desire, or desiring liberation, must by all means worship the supreme whole, the Personality of Godhead. PURPORT The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krsna is described in the Bhagavad-gita as purusottama, or the Supreme Personality. It is He only who can award liberation to the impersonalists by absorbing such aspirants in the brahmajyoti, the bodily rays of the Lord. The brahmajyoti is not separate from the Lord, as the glowing sun ray is not independent of the sun disc. Therefore one who desires to merge into the supreme impersonal brahmajyoti must also worship the Lord by bhakti-yoga, as recommended here in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Bhakti-yoga is especially stressed here as the means of all perfection. In the previous chapters it has been stated that bhakti-yoga is the ultimate goal of both karma-yoga and jnana-yoga, and in the same way in this chapter it is emphatically declared that bhakti-yoga is the ultimate goal of the different varieties of worship of the different demigods. Bhakti-yoga, thus being the supreme means of self-realization, is recommended here. Everyone must therefore seriously take up the methods of bhakti-yoga, even though one aspires for material enjoyment or liberation from material bondage. Akamah is one who has no material desire. A living being, naturally being the part and parcel of the supreme whole purusam purnam, has as his natural function to serve the Supreme Being, just as the parts and parcels of the body, or the limbs of the body, are naturally meant to serve the complete body. Desireless means, therefore, not to be inert like the stone, but to be conscious of one's actual position and thus desire satisfaction only from the Supreme Lord. Srila Jiva Gosvami has explained this desirelessness as bhajaniya-parama-purusa-sukha-matra-sva-sukhatvam in his Sandarbha. This means that one should feel happy only by experiencing the happiness of the Supreme Lord. This intuition of the living being is sometimes manifested even during the conditioned stage of a living being in the material world, and such intuition is expressed in the manner of altruism, philanthropy, socialism, communism, etc., by the undeveloped minds of less intelligent persons. In the mundane field such an outlook of doing good to others in the form of society, community, family, country or humanity is a partial manifestation of the same original feeling in which a pure living entity feels happiness by the happiness of the Supreme Lord. Such superb feelings were exhibited by the damsels of Vrajabhumi for the happiness of the Lord. The gopis loved the Lord without any return, and this is the perfect exhibition of the akamah spirit. Kama spirit, or the desire for one's own satisfaction, is fully exhibited in the material world, whereas the spirit of akamah is fully exhibited in the spiritual world. Thoughts of becoming one with the Lord, or being merged in the brahmajyoti, can also be exhibitions of kama spirit if they are desires for one's own satisfaction to be free from the material miseries. A pure devotee does not want liberation so that he may be relieved from the miseries of life. Even without so-called liberation, a pure devotee is aspirant for the satisfaction of the Lord. Influenced by the kama spirit, Arjuna declined to fight in the Kuruksetra battlefield because he wanted to save his relatives for his own satisfaction. But being a pure devotee, he agreed to fight on the instruction of the Lord because he came to his senses and realized that satisfaction of the Lord at the cost of his own satisfaction was his prime duty. Thus he became akama. That is the perfect stage of a perfect living being. Udara-dhih means one who has a broader outlook. people with desires for material enjoyment worship small demigods, and such intelligence is condemned in the Bhagavad-gita (7.20) as hrta jnana, the intelligence of one who has lost his senses. One cannot obtain any result from demigods without getting sanction from the Supreme Lord. Therefore a person with a broader outlook can see that the ultimate authority is the Lord, even for material benefits. Under the circumstances, one with a broader outlook, even with the desire for material enjoyment or for liberation, should take to the worship of the Lord directly. And everyone, whether an akama or sakama or moksa-kama, should worship the Lord with great expedience. This implies that bhakti-yoga may be perfectly administered without any mixture of karma and jnana. As the unmixed sun ray is very forceful and is therefore called tivra, similarly unmixed bhakti-yoga of hearing, chanting, etc., may be performed by one and all regardless of inner motive. ___ from above: As the unmixed sun ray is very forceful and is therefore called tivra, similarly unmixed bhakti-yoga of hearing, chanting, etc., may be performed by one and all regardless of inner motive. __ This is saying Bhakti-yoga is like the Sun. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. -

Thing is Prabhu everything is aleady there in the Holy name. Your giving clue to your own mind that you need guidance by using the words *sincerity and surrender: Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth. __ http://bhagavadgitaasitis.com/4/34/en1 This is a scientific path. Prabhupada in Gita 1.1 Bhagavad-gita is the widely read theistic science summarized in the Gita-mahatmya (Glorification of the Gita). There it says that one should read Bhagavad-gita very scrutinizingly with the help of a person who is a devotee of Sri Krsna and try to understand it without personally motivated interpretations. I would worry about yourself more. First you should try to get established. But I still don't think I answered your question. You will need to become established in surrender, knowing what it is etc. Sincerity leads up to surrender because it makes you faithful. So you have to have faith. How do you have faith? /images/graemlins/wink.gif -

Oh yes Thiestji I agree with your view. The scientists is not tasting the orange he is just theorizing about it. So the child knows more better he is actually tasting. {rasa} So it seems you answered my question. Still though now that I think about it. Material mundane level pleasure comprised in the mundane mind is pleasure on a level which is appropriate to the level of this individual. So spiritual pleasure of the supramundane is of a level appropriate to this particular transcendentalist individual. That reminds me of Gita verse: TRANSLATION The spirit soul bewildered by the influence of false ego thinks himself the doer of activities that are in actuality carried out by the three modes of material nature. PURPORT Two persons, one in Krishna consciousness and the other in material consciousness, working on the same level, may appear to be working on the same platform, but there is a wide gulf of difference in their respective positions. The person in material consciousness is convinced by false ego that he is the doer of everything. He does not know that the mechanism of the body is produced by material nature, which works under the supervision of the Supreme Lord. The materialistic person has no knowledge that ultimately he is under the control of Krishna. The person in false ego takes all credit for doing everything independently, and that is the symptom of his nescience. He does not know that this gross and subtle body is the creation of material nature, under the order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and as such his bodily and mental activities should be engaged in the service of Krishna, in Krishna consciousness. The ignorant man forgets that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is known as Hrishikesa, or the master of the senses of the material body, for due to his long misuse of the senses in sense gratification, he is factually bewildered by the false ego, which makes him forget his eternal relationship with Krishna. __ http://bhagavadgitaasitis.com/3/27/en1
