  1. When I was in my Global studies class, the teacher taught us that Hinduism was polytheistic when it was truly monotheistic in a sense.

But this is not christian bigotry, it is just ignorance. In India too, some don't know what Christianity is for an extent, but nobody there says its "Hindu bigotry".

The cause of all this confusion among individuals is ignorance and poor understanding of a very 'exotic' religion.

In truth, Hinduism is not ALL monotheistic, this confuses people of other religions.

The Hinduism practiced in Villages is Polytheistic, because every village has some patron God to worship. However, the Hinduism written in Shastras , Vedas etc is Monotheistic in the true sense. This confuses people, they cannot comprehend if it is polytheistic or monotheistic due to its sheer vastness.

My teacher in my Global studies class even asked me if I had any objections. To be honest, we should not have any objections... because it is both polytheistic and monotheistic.

    In other words :

Polytheistic for the confused individuals both in India and America.

Monotheistic for the individuals who do a little research into it. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

So, its not the school's fault, they are not going to read shastras there and tell them "well hinduism starts with something like there is one reality etc."

The very subject of whether Hinduism is a monotheistic or polytheistic religion is very debatable for the so called educated grown up themselves then how can they make kids involve it?

We should be just happy that they are talking about our religion.

    In reply to :

    _________

"everywhere wish we could have been "normal" by American standards.

    _________

If they are worrying about "American " standards of normality, they should see India. India's standard of normality does not exist for our desi friends, may be thats why the people who want to study there or try to study there run away and come back to America. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

  3. Why should we care if they are attracted to his 'all blissful form' or to his other demigod expanisions. In either case, they serve the one and only supreme personality of the Godhead, narayana.

Whether you are in the dense darkness of materialism, an impersonalist, a sectarianist or the devotee of the supreme, you have no choice but to serve him in every instance of your life.

  4. See the camera at right end of the picture?, I think it is the camera that is being used to project the image on to his clothing.

We can see that because, the final step is clearly large and visible and covers the area from the 4th button onto the end of his rain coat.

The step appears to be larger than the people in the rain coat, so it is much closer to it. The camera should be on the step. I think that thing is the camera.

If it is not the camera, then it is trick photography, the modern science today is far from making things like that. It is like science fiction.

  5. (Found it on the internet)

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved

I know whom I love and who is loved by my beloved

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved

There’s a lover in the temple, and there’s a lover in the mosque.*

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved.

Drowned in the ocean of love, I am merely a reflection of my beloved.

I have been beading and breathing my rosary of love until the eve of my life

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved

We are good for nothing until we go crazy in a conversation with the beloved

On the rosary of love, each moment of breath is a conversation with my beloved

My beloved is not to be blamed, for my beloved is infallible

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved

I just have a bad reputation for my own conversations with my beloved.

On the rosary of love, each breath is a conversation with my beloved

  6. (Commonly known as the 23rd Psalm)

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me beside the still waters. Rev. 7.17

He restoreth my soul:he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

    Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:thou anointest my head with oil;

    my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

  7. There is a really good song in Telugu- "Jivamu nive kada deva, bharamu nive kada, mammu broche bharamu nide kada"

It is on Hari and basically explains how he is life itself, he is living itself, he is the supreme maintainer.

It is us fools who quarrel about converting and not converting... all religions are His. Hey! even the religion itself is Him.

Then where do you convert and to what?

  8. I was there!! when I was really young. Anyway, at that time we had to go deep into a room where they prayed to krishna. It was very small.

Also, they sold lassi outside in bowls made out of dirt, I remember drinking it and getting sick /images/graemlins/smile.gif

The temple in mathura is half temple and half mosque. It is so sad that they didn't leave the most sacred place in India alone.

  9. In bhagavath Gita, Krishna clearly explains that he will be happy if you love him, but he will be even more happy if you serve his beloved.

For example, if you serve krishna, I would then serve you, because I will make my krishna happy in doing so.

Krishna says this because : His devotees are always serving him with love and affection, but when he wants to do something for them, they don't want it because they only want to give.. not take.

So, Krishna feels so happy if we serve those who serve him. That way, he gets his happiness of serving them back with love /images/graemlins/smile.gif

To worship the most highest is good, but to please the most highest is greater, the reason for our existence is to please the most highest in any way He wants us to please him.

Also, the deity of krishna and the deity of Radha are just models, but krishna comes into them to take our service.

If we do it with love, he comes into those vigrahas... we are serving the most highest that way. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

  10. People don't realize that rolling does not do anything. If he is truly a sadhu, then he should try to lift people's conscience by glorifying all the good aspects of the society.

If he rolls only and does everything that is bad, then what is the point?!

    Just like krishna says :

    karmendriyani samyamya

    ya aste manasa smaran

    indriyarthan vimudhatma

    mithyacarah sa ucyate

One who restrains the senses of action but whose mind dwells on sense objects certainly deludes himself and is called a pretender.

  11. Prabhu, you can discuss it with me, but I would end the conversation by saying you are half right.

Krishna is everything that we see around us here, he pervades everything= vishnu . however, when you say we are him , then that would be wrong. The preposterousness in this type of thinking is easy to see with an example.

When we compare ourself to the supreme and if we consider ourself to be a water molecule then,He would be the entire creation. How can you say that a single water molecule is the entire creation itself?

that would be wrong. If you want to say He is you, then you are absolutely right, but you are not Him. We are the individualized consciousness and he is the all encompassing consciousness, there is a great difference.

So, please do not delude yourself into thinking that you are him, that would be just make another pit of self aggrandizement for you to fall into.

  12. All I know is that I am consciousness, I am not sure if you can think, see and smell with out a body in this material world.

But in the spiritual world, I think you can see, smell think, etc in the spiritual world with out a body. But to serve, you need some type of a body , even if it is a body of a piece of grass that krishna walks on. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
