  1. Forgive me prabhu but I think this does not prove the idea that the mind does not exist in the brain.

Yashonanda dasji: "mind is also in the body, because if we sense a danger our legs start to run before we think of that"

We are isolated from the external environment due to the fact that what we perceive is only what our brain sees and hears. The event that happens outside our brain should be played again inside of our brain for us to respond.

I think the reason for us running before we even see the danger is that it is due to the flight and fight mechanism in our brain. Nothing can occur with out the signal of our brain.

We cannot breath without the medula oblongata telling our diaphram to expand and contract, we cannot live with out the medulla telling our heart to stop and start every single time.

This is true, because when a person's medulla oblongata shuts down, then the person's heart stops and he/she dies.

If the brain does not function properly, the mind does not function properly, this is seen when there is a petit mal epileptic seizure.

When a person is talking in a conversation and she experiences a petit mal seizure(localized focal seizure) in one part of her brain, then the person may freeze for about 30 secs and then come back to consciousness again with out knowing what happened.

This shows that the mind does rest in the brain. The consciousness of the body is controlled by the brain and its functions... and it is a fact and it is seen in many examples.

  2. Dear R ( Forgive me prabhu,I don't want to call you "rascal", i feel that would be a great an offense if I do so)

R : I wouldn't expect to receive "diksha" from my mother, however qualified and saintly my mother is.

Qualification comes from the purity of the heart of a devotee (this is from bhagavatham). Just because one is called a "guru" does not make him qualified (ofcourse you know this prabhu), only the purity of his heart dictates his eligibility. If a mother's heart is not tainted with materialism and is full of love and compassion which comes from the divine itself, then why cannot you take "diksha" from your mother? .

Your point that tries to strengthen your arguement is that you need a "strong" person to chastise the devotee and women are not eligible for that because they are too loving.

But there are many women being leaders in this world, they are not too loving when it comes to jobs that demand chastisement of certain individuals.

For example , there are many doctors who are women and they don't give the patients inflicted with diabetes chocolate just because they want it. Nor do the policewomen today let people go after commiting a crime.

What you are trying to say is that they are helpless due to their loving nature so they will bend the rules, but they won't and we can see it in many areas where women work.

In my view, "psychological makeup of a mataji" is needed for a guru to make the devotee to advance in spirituality, because the meaning of God- HARI- is -"The one who dwells in the milk of compassion" .

So prabhu, compassion which you say exists in the psychological make up of women is the abode of Sri Hari, So, How can they deny the right of Hari to be the Guru of his own disciples... WHo gives them the right to deny God himself? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

  4. Some times when I do something or say something, I get the feeling that I did that thing before in my life and it is happening again.

It happens to me alot and happened to me when I went to India.

The neurologists say that the brain stores the information of something we did in the past and match makes this information with the newly acquired information. Thus merging them into one phenomena.

So, we feel like we did it before, but it is something similar to the thing we did in the past, or it is something that comes from the convergence of imagination and real life events.

  5. In Taoism, it is believed that the whole universe is connected by one principle. This principle has both good and bad sides. They both cancel each other in every instance.

They also believe that because we too are part of the universe, if we calm our mind, we can be more in touch and harmonious with it. Thus, we may predict when it rains, when something bad is going to happen or when some one is going to come and go, what they are feeling... etc.

  6. I do not mean to offend any one here, but the fundamental thing to remember is that we are all spirit souls and not our bodies, those who do not recognize this are clearly fools... as said by krishna himself in bhagavath Gita..

I am a neophyte devotee myself , but I would like to warn people here to not offend Vaishnavas and make krishna uncomfortable by prohibiting women from becoming his close devotees just because of the body they are in.

In my humble view, the qualifications for a guru is not his/her gender, but his/her devotion to krishna.

    Thank you.

  8. "If a tree falls in the forest when there is no one else around, is there any sound? "

The answer to this question is there isn't any sound. The sound is a perceived phenomena. What we call sound is not sound, but a vibration or an energy conversion in which the potential energy of the tree converts itself into a longitudinal wave of "sound".

this could be applied to every single one of our senses.

(may be thats why they are called false senses)

    For example :

Sight is just the reflection of light in our eyes.

Smell is just a combination of molecules sensed by the hair molecules in our nose whose signal is then transmitted to the somatosensory cortex in the human brain by various chemical and electrical discharges.

All these senses are nothing but actions seen in a certain way by our mind.

So, when a person experiences death, he does not experience his death, but the death of everything else around him.

Sigh, if only my sense perception were given up, then I could see whats behind all this, which is ofcourse Krishna.

  9. Amen to that brother!

"Ignore these things and say "hare krishna" /images/graemlins/smile.gif"

    Hare krishna! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

We do have the most powerful weapon of harinama, but they have the most powerful weapon of maya which makes them deaf. So, we cannot do anything to stop these messes from occuring in the world.

The best thing to do is glorify the supreme truth and stay with it till the end. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

  10. If a person wishes to do more for her lord. She should be given the privilege to do so, regardless of her gender.

This type of freedom can be only achieved when people are given access to their lord.

You should not force any body to be a house wife or a mother, just like we should not force any male to be a father or a husband.

It should be free choice. They should be able to choose between sanyassa and Varnashrama Dharma.

    .......In my humble opinion..........

  13. Don't worry, you really don't have to be born in hinduism. The people who say you have to be born into hinduism and you cannot convert are probably joking or are completely ignorant of their past.

Because, there is nothing to convert to. Hinduism consists of Christian beliefs, Shinto, Muslim, Jewish and other belief systems.

Hinduism is not a religion and Krishna is not limited to Hinduism.

Krishna is there in churches/mosques/stupas as well as in temples. If you go to the spiritual vraja and ask krishna if he is hindu , he will probably laugh at you /images/graemlins/smile.gif , because he is independent of all religions.

God does not belong to any religion, he belongs to your heart, so chant and be happy! . Krishna will come to you /images/graemlins/grin.gif

  15. If we chant the Maha Mantra with out any pause in the middle, then you will clearly see that the very starting and stopping points to this mantra vanish.

"Why then comes the Hare Krishna first? .. is there no reason.. everthing form our shastras makes sense. But we dont need to break our head about this.. "

The starting and stopping points of this mantra do not matter, because they are referring to the same thing.

It has been clearly stated by Jndas prabhu : "It simply provides the mantra as is without commentary, only mentioning that it contains the names of the Purusha (enjoyer)." /images/graemlins/smile.gif
