Kipu'ka -c-1996, mahaksadasa

1.)I walked on the a'a, my feet were so scarred.

Pahoehoe is so smooth, but the face is rock hard.

Lava is cool now, but nothing will grow.

The forest is gone to the ocean shore.

Lava in Hawaii comes basically in two forms, one is called "a'a",

which is a volcanic ash, and is the worst stuff anyone has ever

walked upon. All the Air-Jordans in the world will not survive a

mile on such stuff, and will be literally torn from the

feet. "Pahoehoe", on the other hand, is as smooth as fresh asphalt

pavement, steamrolled, but very hard, and sometimes very thin.

Sometimes, when walking upon such surface, it breaks and ya fall

right through, leaving bloody lacerations all ovah di legs. The lava

flow referred to here is my favorite from the 1950 eruption on the

Kona side of the Isle of Big, one mile wide from the top of Mauna Loa

all the way to the fishing village of Milolii.

2.)You show me Your power, please take me away.

I honor and serve You, please show me the way.

Fiyeh from di mountain split it into two.

The hole in di fiyeh You lead me to.

Sometimes, when appreciating the power of Pele (the goddess of the

volcano, perhaps a sister or partial representation of Srimati

Durgadevi), one may notice a random patch of rain forest in the

middle of such an expanse of lava. This randomness is quite

remarkable in that often it defies normal gravitational pull. It is

not unlike the sweet times we may find ourselves in the midst of this

Armageddon and the normal rubble of material existance. The singer

has found such a "kipu'ka", (hole in the fire), but never thinks she

deserves such shelter, and gives all credit to the One she is singing

all her songs to.

(Chorus)You feed me, You free me, You ask me to play.

Sri Govinda, Sri Gopala, Oh what can I say.

Hole in di Fiyeh, the refuge You Bring.

Your Holy Names our voices must sing.

Hole in di fiyeh, Kipu'ka, di rain!

The Refuge You give me again and again!

The singer knows that the way to pray is as Lord Jesus does, she

knows the Names of the Supreme Lord are hallowed and possess all the

potencies of the Lord Himself. Thus, the names of Krsna are the

refuge of honest people regardless of religious, national, or

cultural backgrounds.

3.)A place to live for those You have spared.

Ground soft as feathers, this Vana (aina) You prepare.

For Your Own, Oh Israel, we can live as the freed.

The fiyeh may be burning, but You've planted Your seed.

Who are the chosen people? What is the actual meaning of "Israel"?

Is Holy Mount Zion a geographical location that one may possess, or

travel to by purchase of a ticket? The chosen people are those who

actually have made the choice to live as God's Own, as His servant,

as His friend, as His protector, as His life and soul. God's

partiality is to His devotee, but is purchased only by the intensity

of the reciprocation of unconditional love, and the nice singer

acknowledges that this can be done either outside or consumed by the

brimstone.

4.)You grant us Kipu'ka if we live as Your Own.

If we honor Your Word, Your Glory has been shown.

No worry about the fiyeh burning outside.

We can watch Your Volcano, we don't have to ride.

Hole in di fiyeh, kipu'ka, di rain!

The refuge You Give me again and again.

The sweet singer of this song acknowledges personal responsibility in

keeping the relationship with the Supreme Lord intact. In all cases,

free choice dictates the quality of real Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti Yoga is

nothing in a vacuum, there is only the possibility of Yoga in

relationship between Lover and Beloved. All the turmoil around us at

all times has no effect on such a relationship, as Bhakti Yoga not

only burns in the heart of God, but is always with "Israel" as well.

Thanks for sharing. Do you ever record your music? and if so what instruments do you play? If you do record, I think you can set up an account on MP3.com and upload your music, if you want others around the world to access it. I think it is free.

I'm really starting to appreciate that hole in the fire more and more. The fire is so raging out of control nowadays. I'll stay in the eye of the disturbance. The souls of my feet are burned raw - it's time to chill.

Haribol, gHari, thanx for your wonderful contributions to these forums. Yeah, that hole in the fire, it is a cool space. Ive been reading the ahimsa Daniel lately, and his vegetarian disciples walked through the kings fire, which was turned up so high that even folks outside the pit were instant ash, but ol Shadrack, Michak, and Abednago felt the fire, but it did not burn.

All this stuff in front of our eyes must go on, it is the nature of the beast (no, not that one). I always surmised that it is better to be a witness rather than a participant in such "fun". It is gettin quite Biblical out there. I just checked the worlds population, and if you add up india, pakistan, and china, approximately 1/3 of the worlds population is there. I wish they could all get along, but is there other beings playin in all of this?

To Gaurachandra, many of these songs are recorded, but only on a Fostex 8 track. I vocalize, play Ibanez Artist, harmonium (hooked up to a peavey stereo chorus power amp). I am presently working with my rastafarian braddahs who know how to digitalize and fine tune the whole mess for internet use, but it is all a project in the works.
