barney 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Kanchi Acharya case: key accused retracts statements Nov. 24, 2004 In a twist to the ongoing investigation into the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi has been arrested, one of the five key accused today did an about turn, saying all his earlier statements were made under "duress." Kathiravan told a remand court here this evening that he was tortured by the police, who extracted statements from him. Stating that he was picked up by the police on November 3, he said the police had beaten him right from that day and compelled him to give statements as tutored by them. The prosecution had been maintaining that the seer was arrested on the information provided by Kathiravan and another accused Rejini alias Chinna, both arrested on November 9. Kathiravan had made an in-camera statement under Sec 164 of CrPc before another magistrate court here on November 19. Kathiravan's ''U'' turn came when he and Chinna were produced before Judicial Magistrate I G Uthamaraj for extension of their 15-day-judicial remand which expired today. Chinna also intervened to say he was also tortured by the police and he was suffering from some health problems. Kathiravan during his submission said the police compelled him to endorse whatever they said in the case. At one stage, the prosecution objected to the recording of his statement, but the magistrate overruled it and allowed him to complete his submission. After recording their submissions, the Magistrate extended their remand till December 8.
maadhav 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 thanks for the post barney! still it is sad that the politicians are fallen so much in bharat. the hindu gurus, advaitis or vaishnavas and others, need to unite to do krishna's work in bharat - dharma sansthaapan. the united gurus need to arouse and guide the hindu masses to replace asuric politicians and gov. servants. they need to teach public how to make democracy work. the gurus need to keep armed guards. without it, they may not have enough security/safety to tell the truth or exercise their freedom without risking life. in vedic time our rshis and sains/sanyasis had power of tapa to just curse and kill any asura. in kali this is not possible even by shankaracharya. but the power is now in united org.s, and unity of purpose and actions. never forget that non violence is not absolute principle in hinduism, but there are many non violent ways to re-establish dharma in bharat. without dharma sansthaapan, bharat is doomed. so, hindus, wake up! uttishta, jaagrta, prapya varaannibodhata!
