Hi everyone. I'm reading a book right now called "Arrow of the Blue Skinned God" and it mentions that in India there was a television series based on the Ramayana that aired every week. Does anybody here know if that series is available on videocassette? And if so, where can I get it. thanks.

This RAmAyan video series is available in many local libraries.

Most libraries will have it.

About 30 volumes/cassettes containing 2-3 episodes each.

If not, your local librarian can order it upon your request. or Producer is RAmAnand Sagar.

This verse and purport from Sri Brahma Samhita by His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabupada discusses this.

TEXT 38

premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena

santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti

yam syamasundaram acintya-guna-svarupam

govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

TRANSLATION

I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is Syamasundara, Krsna Himself with inconceivable innumerable attributes, whom the pure devotees see in their heart of hearts with the eye of devotion tinged with the salve of love.

PURPORT

The Syamasundara form of Krsna is His inconceivable simultaneous personal and impersonal self-contradictory form. True devotees see the form in their purified hearts under the influence of devotional trance. The form Syama is not the blue color visible in the mundane world but is the transcendental variegated color affording eternal bliss, and is not visible to the mortal eye. On a consideration of the trance of Vyasadeva as in the sloka, bhakti-yogena manasi etc., it will be clear that the form of Sri Krsna is the full Personality of Godhead and can only be visible in the heart of a true devotee, which is the only true seat in the state of trance under the influence of devotion. When Krsna manifested Himself in Vraja, both the devotees and non- devotees saw Him with this very eye; but only the devotees cherished Him, eternally present in Vraja, as the priceless jewel of their heart. Nowadays also the devotees see Him in Vraja in their hearts, saturated with devotion although they do not see Him with their eyes. The eye of devotion is nothing but the eye of the pure unalloyed spiritual self of the Jiva. The form of Krsna is visible to that eye in proportion to its purification by the practice of devotion. When the devotion of the neophyte reaches the stage of bhava-bhakti the pure eye of that devotee is tinged with the salve of love by the grace of Krsna, which enables him to see Krsna face to face. The phrase "in their hearts" means Krsna is visible in proportion as their hearts are purified by the practice of devotion. The sum and substance of this sloka is that the form of Krsna, who is Syamasundara, Natavara (Best Dancer), Muralidhara (Holder of the Flutes) and Tribhanga (Triple-bending), is not a mental concoction but is transcendental, and is visible with the eye of the soul of the devotee under trance.

In case anyone does not know, there is also a similar multi part series on Mahabharata. And after the success of those two serials, every film producer has tried to make a similar series. For example, now there is "Vishnu Puran", "Veer Hanuman", "Ma Durga", "Krishna", etc. Each is a weekly TV serial based on the Puranic stories. It seems every channel has their own version nowadays.

The Color of God</h3></font></A> </center>This old usenet article describes the various colours that God exhibits in addition to His original beautiful blue cloud hue.

There is an error in it for the commentaries on the Brahma Samhita are attributed to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, whereas he himself had given all the credit for the superexcellent English to his master. I was pleased to see that Bhakta Shab was more attentive and got this right earlier in the thread.

You can get the DVD's in Hindi with english subtitles At this address:

India Music and Boutique

9443 Venice Boulevard

Culver City 90232

CA

Phone: 310-837-5233

They also have Mahabharata that in MHO was better that Ramayan. I saw both of them on TV in India and still they have reruns. If you don't mind so much the overacting they are OK.

I remember that we used to watch the series at the temple in Cal every Sunday after morning prasada until the temple president banned Ramayan because he said that they were talking mayavada and speculating too much. Mahabharata was such a hit that Sundays mornings hardly was any people in the streets and even Muslims were talking about family values, heroism, Krsna and the Pandavas, etc.

Many times I saw the local Bengali devotees crying in the sad parts and cheering for the Pandavas like anything. It was really huge.

Mark try to call at that address and ask them for cassetes, I know for sure that they have the DVD's for sale in there.

Hello everybody. Thanks so much for all the information. When I first posted the question I wasn't sure anybody would reply but I have definitely been proven wrong. It should be interesting to see this series. I hope it doesn't cost too much. I can't wait to see it. Hare Krsna

The television series Ramayana is excellent, its a must to watch if you haven't seen it. Also there is the second part to the series called "Utar Ramayana", which is about Ram's children, Luv and Kush, this is also excellent and a must to watch.

I guess viSNu's complexion is the omen of next yuga.

white - silvery

red - bronzy

dark blue - ferreous

yellow - golden

Therefore, if raama was described as of dark blue skin, that is an evidence of his living time. Moreover, comparing raama & kriSNa in various aspects will also be helpful for it. Because they were recorded as living in the end of respective yugas whereas tretaa is better than dvapara.
