Jeanne, what was the tofu dish that you like? I'm having the same problem.

Tofu just tastes like a nasty old sponge to me :(

Martha -- welcome, welcome, welcome !! !!

We have a ton of recipes in the files folder, so far everything I have made

from the recipes has been good.

Being a veg is so much cheaper than being meat eaters and in many ways it

can be so much simpler and yet more complicated LOL. If you like Indian

food there are tons of recipes on the net that are fabulous. If you don't

look at it like losing meat from your diet you are way ahead of the game.

I got into Indian food when I quit eating meat this last time and looked at

it as a new eating experience. The taste, textures and flavors were so

awesome that my husband and I never even noticed there wasn't any meat in the

food. In essence we didn't miss it one bit -- then I branched into

American food some. With the help of Bob's Red Mills Vital Gluten Flour to

make

gluten steaks, chops, ground and all kinds of flavors of meat substitute

that you can use your old cook books with. You can still have " chicken "

divan and all kinds of things. I make burgers on my counter top grill, roasts

in the crock pot that can be sliced for dinners or sandwiches. Cutlets to

have with cream gravy or brown gravy with mushrooms. Lentil loaves, nut

loaves, cottage cheese loaf all kinds of goodies. I do love being a veg and

I hope you do too.

Again, Welcome

Welcome to the veggie side! I understand feeling like you're the only one not

gnawing on a cow - where I live, meat is put in everything but ice cream and I

think if she could have, my late mother in law would have done just that.

You'll love the group. These are the best folk anywhere. Just my opinion (but

I'm right.)

I'm curious. Did your doctor actually advise you to follow a vegetarian diet?

I'm mostly vegan, and I recently had my gallbladder removed because it started

releasing gallstones. I've known since 2005 that my gallbladder was filled with

gallstones, but it had never caused me any problems until recently. My primary

care physician came right out and told me that my diet was probably the reason

I'd never had a full-blown gallbladder attack.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this group. Because of my bad health my doctor has told me to

change my diet. So here I am exploring vegetarianism!!

Thank you for letting me join your group.

I am the mother of nine beautiful children. Which one of my kids needs me

right now. I will post more later. World War three is taking place in my living

room right now.

Hi Debbie, welcome to the garden. I'm jealous of your cookbooks, lol. One I

heartily recommend is mostly reasons behind going veg with a very nice number of

recipes which are ordinary enough for the average eater to use to transition

over to vegetarianism. It's Diet For A Small Planet by Francis Moore Lappe. I'm

on my 5th copy because I have the horrible habit of giving a copy to

friends/family who are going veggie more and more. The Moosewood cookbooks are

good too.

Hugs and welcome to you all all our new veggies! Jeanne in GA

Hi, Mary. I'm new here, too, and am veering towards vegetarianism. I'm trying to

cut out meats and figure out substitutes for the few times I would like to have

meat. I would like a substitute for BBQ pork shreds, something that's chewy and

chunky, if possible, with, naturally, BBQ sauce. This is a very friendly site.

:-) I venture to say that political chat sites are not too friendly, lol! That's

why I don't even want to get involved in my local home owners' association, last

time I went to a meeting I was frightened at all the stupid yelling and

screaming ... I like my composure, I also like my life, LOL! and my blood

pressure is high enough. I hope you send in your favorite recipes and stick

around. Cindi

<<not sure how this chat site works. I just left a political chat site that got

so nasty and mean, I sought out something lighter. I am a veg, but cook for a

meat-eater. He's fairly easy going about it, and gets no pork, no hamburger. Our

kids are our dogs, five rescues.

I don't really like to cook, so the simpler the better. I like baking bread. I

do have a great cream cheese and mushroom enchilada recipe, if you're

interested.>>

Paul, welcome to the Garden of Earthly Delights! I don't do processed foods,

other than farm made, non rennet cheese but one of my huge downfalls is things

like potato chips. There has only been one potato chip I didn't like - dill

pickle. The pickles are supposed to be beside or in my sandwich! Soooooo my

blood pressure is a bit up there and I'm on bp meds. My bad.

You'll love this group, the recipes and the great folk here.

I AM PART ENGLISH BUT HAD AN AUNT WHO MET AND MARRIED MY UNCLE , SHE WOULD MAKE

FRIED EGGS AND PUT VINAGAR OVER IT, PLUS I REMEMBER THE ENGLISH SAYING THAT THEY

LOVED THEIR F*SH AND CHIPS WITH MALT VINAGAR WRAPPED IN NEWSPAPER, SO I GUESS

IT'S AN AQUIRED TASTE.I FORGOT TO MENTIONED SHE LIVED IN ENLAND WHERE MY UNCLE

WAS STATIONED DURING WW 2.

You'll love it here. I was also a Lenten vegetarian (pescatarian actually), but

being on here has encouraged me to have a mostly veg. pregnancy and now working

our way up to 3 - 4 times a week instead of one or two. (I have 3 children

regularly home with a daughter every other week & an additional 3-4 that visit

often also - 1 of which is mine biologcally - all but the girls are strict

carnivores - well ok the baby is strictly dairy for a few more months ;)
