Guest guest Report post Posted March 25, 2006 Welcome Bryan! And congratulations on your new addition, Ayden. Sounds like you're still interested in exploring vegetarianism. I'm not a moderator, but I hope I can speak for us in the group -- we'd love to help you in every way we can. All of us who've been vegetarian for awhile can remember going through the initial traumas -- what should I eat? What can I eat when I dine out? What can I fix for company? How do I know I'm getting the right nutrients? What good-tasting meals can I make that aren't too long or involved? This is a great group for answering those questions, and there's a wealth of additional information on the website. Take care, Sherry in Oregon At 04:23 PM 3/25/2006, you wrote: >Hello, my name is Bryan and my wife and I have been a vegetarian for >about the last 8 months. Guest guest Report post Posted August 7, 2006 Greetings fellow Quebecer! Cool. Congrats for the switch to vegetarian. Speaking of recipes, I just picked up a nice chocolate cake recipe from jandemommy (thanks jande!). Wow, love chocolate! Hopefully I can share some of my recipes as well to return the favor! Been veg for three years now and vegan for about half that time. It's only when I became veg that I seriously started cooking instead of ordering food, eating out, etc... What a switch since I changed my diet! Glad for it. Maybe I can share my apple pie recipe later! Alana Farrell <alana.farrell wrote: Welcome aboard. Guest guest Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Hi Henry Welcome to Vegan Chat. There are Vegetarian Shoe Shops and online shops which sell a variety of styles of vegan shoes. My problem is that I have very wide feet, and no vegan shoes come in wide! What do you class as a normal person? I would consider hippies, treehuggers and boring people to be normal. Guest guest Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Greetings Henry! Welcome to the group. Shopping can be a problem for vegans, as you are discovering. We end up spending way more time looking for the things we want and sometimes spending more money too. Also we sacrifice fasion for our ethical beliefs quite a bit. (I do anyway, but I'm a shoe whore.) I guess you should just keep looking around the internet for what you need. I'm not too good at online shopping. As far as the wool carpets and such goes.......I think we all have had some carryover of nonvegan items that we still used for awhile after we made the switch. I wore my old trusty leather hiking boots for a good year before getting new ones. And I still have a wool coat that I use for fancy occasions. Some people might point it out to you and say "I thought you were a vegan!" Just ignore them, they are douche-bags. Anyway, if it really makes you sick that you have wool carpet then start saving to replace it. Otherwise, its not like its hurting more sheep. You're not buying more wool carpet, so no harm. Hopefully your fam and friends will embrace your vegan-ness and start giving you nice vegan clothing! The holidays are coming up! I was really lucky with that. For my birthday, my bandmates got me an awesome vegan guitar strap, and all agreed to wear vegan go-go boots onstage...... So good luck Henry! -CortHenry <fattystratty1 wrote: Hello Everyone, My name is Henry and I'm new to this group and also new to being a vegan. Guest guest Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Hello Henry, and welcome from Wales! Lots of people have different views about old non vegan items. Some like me say use them until they need replacing , or donate them to a charity shop. Obviosly with carpets and furniture its a bit harder than clothing. I got my shoes from vegetarian shoes, not exactly style influenced but functional.
