Jerrold,

I've tried quite a few things since I've been a vegetarian for 27 years! I do like many of the Morningstar brand items. Thanks!

I love Seattle. We lived there for about 7 years before relocating to

Portland. We still get up there -- love the Folklife Festival and try to

get there at least every 3 years.

Oh yeah, you betcha -- we get to veggie and vegan places a lot. One of

my favorites is Veggie Thai.

We used to go to a vegetarian Chinese place in Seattle near the Seattle

Center. I think it was called the Bamboo Garden. Is it still there?

Cheers,

Trish

Hi Trish. Yes, Bamboo Garden is still around although I have yet to

go to it. I recently got married and my husband and I had Pizza Pi in

the U. District make up a bunch of pizzas, calzones, and breadsticks

for our reception. It was awesome! Have you ever eaten there? Pizza

Pi has aided my husband into edging closer and closer to veganism. :)

Where about in Seattle did you live? I actually live in Federal Way

(I always say Seattle though because people say, " where the heck is

Federal Way? " ).

Take care,

Yes we have snow from last weekend still frozen to the ground. More

expected today and even more expected this weekend! Temps are

supposed to be mid-20's today and down into the teens tomorrow/Friday.

I could swear I live in the Pacific Northwest and not the East

Coast!! It's crazy. So unseasonable for this area.

Are you getting snow/cold temps there in Portland? How do you like

living there compared to Seattle?

I would love to take a day trip down to Portland and shop at the vegan

stores and have lunch. Plus, I wouldn't have to pay sales tax and

it's always good if I can save a little $.

Take care,

Debra

We lived in Redmond when we were there. My husband worked for Microsoft

at the time, and we rented an apartment just down the road so he could

walk. I would drive to a nearby park and ride to a job in downtown

Bellevue. Then I decided to go back to college for a second degree

(first one was in biology, the second in economics,) so I'd just

continue on the bus to the UW.

I loved the University District and the Ave, but I don't know Pizza Pi.

I haven't lived there since 1992, right about the time grunge was

widening its audience outside of Seattle, so I suspect things have

changed a bit. We used to go to Pagliacci's Pizza a lot, which was

pretty wonderful!

I know where Federal Way is :-) So there's at least one person here who

won't ask you where the heck it is.

Cheers,

Trish

Cheese is made with milk, which comes from animals and is therefore

not vegan. If you can veganise it with vegan cheese substitutes then

please place it on this list for everyone to share.

It's been cold and/or snowy down here, not necessarily at the same

time. It was actually above freezing this morning, and snow was

melting, so I took the opportunity to get out to the grocery store.

It's set to get cold again tonight.

I'm a teacher, and my school district has been on snow days since

Monday. We may go in tomorrow, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

It was freezing here (SF bay area) last night. I covered the plants

that were likely to freeze, but the tomatoes froze anyway. So it's

officially the end of the tomato season.

Kara, you did this email just fine. Go to our main site, listed below, go

to the upper left of the page and click on files. Then click on recipes.

There are thousands of them and they are sorted. Welcome aboard.

That reminds me of an article I read years ago.  This woman was in her 80's-90's

and was talking about her life.  She had been a doctor, still had all her mental

and physical faculties and was just simply a happy person.  She said she had

never worked a day in her life........um she was a doctor!  She said she enjoyed

everything she did so much, yes even dishes and being a doctor, that it never

felt like it was work.  So even tho I forget about it sometimes and I drag

myself, I try to remember to never work a day in my life.

Hi Amanda, glad you're in the garden! Your husband is in good company. My

husband and I have been lacto-ovo vegetarians for somewhere between 20 - 25

years and only in the past year found a tofu dish either of us could eat without

wanting to hurl. Er....disliked thoroughly? I've was a TVP smuggler when the

kids lived here, now I don't hide that it is on our plates. The only store

product imitation meatless thing I buy a few times a year is the gardenburger.

Welcome again, Jeanne in GA

Hi all,

I am happy I have found this group and hope to find some good recipes. I am

trying to help my husband eat vegetarian without knowing it :) The direct route

didn't work so well... However, he doesn't mind veggie soup, cheese pizza, bean

dishes - things he doesn't really associate as being vegetarian like tofu or

meat substitutes.

At any rate, I will post a recipe when I get home. Until then, take care.
