Hi Fraggle

terrorist plot....

Of course it's a terrorist plot. It's Saddam Hussein's latest plot - he's

put microchips in the snow - it'll give him control over all the snowmen,

who are going to make their way to strategic points and then melt. At least

that's the official story - well, they've got to find some

excu....ahem....reason to bomb Iraq.

No no no no - that's Tibet. They had large silver balls (oh dear, I can see

what sort of comment that's going to get) which were inserted into their

chest cavities. A bit later they invaded London, but fortunately UNIT

managed to take care of it!

Well, local schools have already used up all their snow days. They only

have four. Of course, the close the schools for two inches of snow (rolls

eyes). If I can get to work, these kids should be able to get to school.

Looks like someone either tried to drive or was a pedestrian in Bethesda,

Maryland. Most folks in DC treat pedestrians kindly, but I'm convinced that

if they put a traffic camera at every intersection between the Bethesda and

Friendship Heights Metro stations (about two miles or so. Friendship

Heights is at the Maryland-DC border), Montgomery County would make HEAPS o'

cash. Course, getting around Northern Virginia without a car is also a

logistical nightmare. It's even worse than MoCo.

Getting off topic slightly, I recently learned that the most

pedestrian-hostile city in the US is the Orlando, Florida, area. Having

grown up there, I was not at all surprised.

Intro

A quick intro because I'm not feeling so well today. My name is Kelly I'm

26 and haven't had any meat for 31/2 days (so far!). Strangely, I've gained

weight since starting my plant based diet and one of the reason (animals

first of course) was for health reasons (including weight loss). I've also

started exercising at least 30 minutes every other day sometimes more.

Anyway, I can't figure that one out. I look forward to being part of this

group and learning as much as possible as I hope this life style change is

for life.

Thanks for your time,

Hi Kim,

I also have a mixed bag household. I've been vegetarian for almost a

year. My husband likes veg food, but also likes his meat. My two

sons, ages 6 1/2 and 5, are both meat eaters, although they do like

some of the veg food. My biggest hurdle is my mother-in-law, who

lives with us. She is old fashioned in her eating beliefs, thinking

a meat and dairy diet with veggies thrown in, is the healthy way to

go. I'd like to get milk out of the house completely. I don't buy or

cook meat, she does that. The hard part for me has been finding

recipes that everyone likes, especially kids. I can learn to at

least tolerate foods (tofu being one of them). Good luck to you,

maybe we can learn from each other.

Peace,

Laura

Hi, Laura.

When my mother moved in, she was great about experimenting with

meatless recipes or altering ones she had used for ages. But once she

returned to work and became busy again, it all fell to me.

My biggest problem is being organized enough to keep everyone

satisfied. So I'm going to ask the meateaters to provide their own

and cook their own. That way, all I have to do is plan the nonveg

stuff. Plus, I'd like to get into the habit of cooking many meals

over the weekend for the upcoming week so I'm not scrambling to find

something to make for us besides pasta when I'm in a hurry. I'd like

to get more variety into our nonveg meals.

I hope to learn from you, too!

Hi Kim,

I'm also new here and am part of a " mixed " family. Our home is

vegetarian, I'm vegan, my daughter (almost two) has been vegetarian

since birth and my husband eats meat. I do most of the shopping and

nearly all the cooking and try to make things that we all can eat,

like pasta. Or I make meals that can be made vegan without too much

fuss (like veggie calzones - all have the same veggie filling, mine

have tofu added and hubby's have cheese added). I'm in California

which is really veggie friendly.

Hopefully it will be okay for my daughter, but there will come a

time when she asks about daddy's food. We only eat out about once a

week, so she is rarely exposed to meat. I figure if I can get her to

eat a lot of veggie staples at a young age (like tofu, which she

loves) it will be easier later on.

Cheers, Jenn

I have been a vegetarian since the year 2000. My

husband and his teenage sons are definitely meat

eaters. My 6 year old daughter does not eat eat meat,

especially pork. I am glad that I have met someone in

the group who understands how I feel. Thanks!

I also come from a mixed house...I must say it is

hard to make everyone happy. I've been veg for 17

years and my husband is a meat eater but he is very

supportive most of the time. He wants us to raise our

8 mos. old son, Skye, as a veg. which pleases me to no

end. We have two older daughters 13 and 11( Kyra and

Angelica respectively)they are meat eaters making

strong strides to become veg. Their father(from a

different marriage) adamantly disagrees. I am trying

to keep peace and balance in my home...It's not easy

that's for sure. I am glad I am not alone. This board

is a life saver.

Many thanks, Sharon
