I know from your posts you are a very caring person - what happens when you

fall madly in love with a wonderful woman and want to reproduce another

person just like her?

As I said to Angie, not everyone is nasty - the animal world isn't perfect

either. Should we wish birds of prey, sharks, cats etc out of existence as

well? There are a lot of people just like you/us in the world. Why should

we give up our lives when we don't expect animals to? To my mind humans,

animals, trees, plants and rocks are all one.

well,I already AM madly in love with a wonderful woman. But we're

not having kids...and I don't think anyone else should either.

no,they only kill out of necessity and/or instinct, and they don't

intentionally and carelessly destroy our world, and cause tens of

thousands of extinctions per year.

There are a lot of people just like you/us in the world. Why should

I wish I could share your optimism here. I do NOT view humans in

same light as I view all the other inhabitants of Earth. They

have, and continue to,risen above Nature and out of the natural order

of things...humanity continues in its mad quest to " play God " and be

dominant over all other life forms in the world, and the world itself.

I don't want us to give up our lives,I'm not suggesting mass human

suicide(although anyone who wants to has my blessing,heh)..I'm

stating that the destruction of life is entirely humanity's fault, and

the only sure way to our world to go on living peacefully is for

humans to not be here. I think we should all stop breeding....as I

said, not just kill ourselves,I want everyone to lead

long, happy, healthy, fulfilling lives, and clean up and try to reverse

as much of mankind's damage on our way out as possible. Man..I must

really amuse you guys with my extreme views...haha...oh well..

But a few of us have a right to live, -I believe only vegans should be allowed to reproduce or persons showing they can help the enviroment and live peacefully.

I don't think your extreme, there is a big population problem and I agree with most of what you've said.

Kim,

the problem with this, though it seems likea noble idea,is that

there's no sure way to tell how these people's kids will turn out.

You can try all you want to raise a good kid,but there's just no way

to be sure. If we could all be sure how to raise perfect children,we

wouldn't be in this mess to begin with, and the world would be

vegan, peaceful, and there would be no war,pollution,crime,hate,etc...

Ouch - there's an ethical labyrinth....let's try a couple of varieties of this...(and no, I don't really believe any of these things...)

1. I believe that only people following an Earth Based Spirituality should be allowed to reproduce because they are the only ones who understand the importance of nature.

2. I believe that only Marxists should be allowed to reproduce because they are the only ones who understand the concept of sharing everything equally.

3. I believe that nobody who smokes should be allowed to reproduce because they have no concern for themselves or the environment.

4. I believe that nobody who drinks alcohol should be allowed to reproduce because they are sometimes drunk.

The list could go on. As I say, I don't believe any of the things I have said above, but it is frightening that people believe anyone who disagrees with them on an ethical issue should not be allowed to reproduce!

Why? In the ideal world this would be the rule,- carnivore man has created an ugly world ,destroyed the planet, eats a very unnatural diet,- man hasn't fulfilled his potential-don't you think its time to change? and the world is changing slowly. Eventually mankind will have no choice but to live by rules.

No, I'm not amused. I love discussing views. The only point I have to make

is:-

It is only people like you (the good ones!) who feel that they will not

breed. The nasty ones are never going to stop breeding. If the nice ones

stop breeding and the nasty ones don't there is no hope for humanity or the

rest of the animal kingdom.

But a few of us have a right to live, -I believe only vegans should be allowed to reproduce or persons showing they can help the enviroment and live peacefully.

....and who will oversee this? Are there any vegans in power, or might the people in power just decide that vegans, Pagans, Marxists etc cannot breed?

While it might be a pleasant thought that at some time in the future all humans are vegan, and caring, it is not caring to suggest that other people cannot breed. Therefore if we choose to stop others breeding we are not 'caring' and therefore the people left to breed are not as caring as they think they are.

If only vegans were allowed to breed most of us wouldn't be here anyway, so this conversation wouldn't be taking place.

I always try to steer clear of right-wing thoughts.

Jo,

I know,it does seem like one big hopeless circle..If an idea lacks

enough merit to be passed on without being force-fed from an early

age, it probably deserves to be forgotten.

Awareness isn't passed along in our genes. Every person who shares my

views on this subjectis the result of a breeding couple, and yet we

have all decided to stop reproducing. Often, we arrived at this

conclusion independently and without support from friends and family.

The concept of voluntary human extinction has a life of its own. It's

an idea whose time has come, though it may be a little late. I just

think education is the key here.

I'm sure all of us have aspects which somebody could say are less than perfect, or that we have not fulfilled our potential in some way. As much as I dislike a lot of the Bible there is that great phrase "let he who is without sin....."

I think that people who try to say who can reproduce and who can't should

not be allowed to force their views on others.

I don't trust environmentalists they seem to want to protect things so numbers won't decline and affect them --No fish to eat -No whales to look at --No otters to hunt .

When the numbers increase thet can kill them again They don't consider the individual wanting to live its life

Hence some birds are valuable but pigeons of no importance and need killing They are often not vegan because it is a " How does it affect me" philosophy Of course those who are vegans first will have a less selfish approach to the envronment if they regard themselves as environmentalists imo

Changing ones diet is the easiest thing to do because you can do it for yourself ,by yourself Many environmental issues we can't tackle by ourselves so easily pollution by factories/whaling etc

Its also the hardest because you can't hide what you are you have to think about it every time you shop/eat Its a bigger commitment than say using the bottle bank(and who will notice if you forget ?!)
