We usually get the basic tofu, although Peter had a braised tofu once which was very tasty, and a different texture. It's a shame about your favourite.

We have tofu maybe once a week, sometimes fairly plain, sometimes fried in herbs. We don't usually marinate it as I'm supposed to be careful with salt. It is very nice fried with a full breakfast. One of my email friends who works for the Vegan Society eats tofu every day and looks extremely healthy on it.

I happen to adore tofu, and eat it plain all the time....

I never thought about the universe, it made me feel small

Never thought about the problems of this planet at all

Global warming, radio-active sites

Imperialistic wrongs and animal rights! No!

Why think of all the bad things when life is so good?

Why help with an 'am' when there's always a 'could'?

Let the whales worry about the poisons in the sea

Outside of California, it's foreign policy

I don't want changes, I have no reactions

Your dilemmas are my distractions

I never looked around, never second-guessed

Then I read some Howard Zinn now I'm always depressed

And now I can't sleep from years of apathy

All because I read a little Noam Chomsky

I'm eating vegetation, 'cause of Fast Food Nation

I'm wearing uncomfortable shoes 'cause of globalization

I'm watching Michael Moore expose the awful truth

I'm listening to Public Enemy and Reagan Youth

I see no world peace 'cause of zealous armed forces

I eat no breath-mints 'cause they're from de-hoofed horses

you said Soy products

tofu is a soy product...

soy doesn't have to mean sauce

:)

tofu is just ground up soybeans pressed and coagulated basically......

What does this reply have to do with the subject?

Tofu does not have any sugar added, and only a little salt.

My favourites are the chicken-style pieces, but there are other really good ones too - like the roasts. Frys also do very good analogues, especially their nuggets.

I was referring to SOY PRODUCTS. like they have to add sugar to soy

milk or not many would buy it, salt to soy sauce.. etc. Just saying

in general I'm sure most people would find a soy product repulsive so

they mask it except tofu I guess. For instance I like many type of

beans...... I like black beans but I's don't take to no soybeans..

uhg.

mellow out there big guy

come on, breathe with me...

lets not get all agro.....

ok..so, have you ever had soybeans? besides in processed foods?

edamame is quite tasty, imo...

and, when you said soy product, my immediate thought was "tofu", soy sauce didn't even enter into my thoughts until you mentioned it

soy doesn't have to immediately equal some processed food...

as for soy milk...i think the one i occassionaly drink has evaporated cane juice...not exactly the evil rearing head of "sugar!"

*grabs spear and shield to ward it off...*

actually I never really liked soy and I tried many such forms but after

reading er4yt which recommends soy for type O's as a dairy alternative

I began to incorporate said products into my diet.. never exactly

liking them.. dumb, I know.. then I was told by someone about the

estrogen in soy and I started researching and came across some

opposition to soy that I embraced in a good bye good ridance relief.

Did you know the ancient nomadic warriors of the asian steppes (blood

type B's) gained superiority in battle by drinking the blood of their

horses as they rode.

Hi everyone

OK - firstly, an apology for letting this through - I've been away,

and hadn't realised that the main aim of this person seems to be to

cause upset on the list! However, having done that, would like to

reply anyway...

> Did you know the ancient nomadic warriors of the asian steppes (blood

What complete nonsense. They may possibly have drunk the blood of

their horses in an attempt to frighten their enemies - tactics to

frighten enemies has always been common place. However, what gave the

nomadic warriors their superiority were their battle tactics - tactics

which were adopted by people like Napoleon, and were used regularly

until the invention of more powerful weapons in the early 20th century

by just about everyone.

Of course, the historian in me would like to know exactly what the

sources are that detail this blood drinking... and what the sources

are for the blood types of asian warriors (not to mention how on earth

they could all have the same blood type!!!!)

My suspicion is that this is all some urban myth...

not a whole heck of a lot different then any "conquering" army, be it the german blitzkreig in WWII, the spanish in the americas, the arabs in the 8th century, or the mongols in the 13th

the original steppe horsemen, Scythians and Hyksos (sic?), and the rest of the indo-europeans of that time, blew out of the steppes on horses...scaring the bejeebers out of everyone..hence greek myths of centaurs...

the egyptians collpased when the hyksos came, until they themselves learned to ride horses and develop chariots..

when the huns came, and later the mongols, their battle tactics at the time were pretty revoltuionary

very fluid, and in the mongols case, a well developed tactic of feints and fake retreats, leading their foes into traps and envelopments...

these tactics failed when their foes realized the mongols (or whomevers) weakenesses...such as when Baibars trapped them in a canyon

etc and so forth...

Hi everyoneOK - firstly, an apology for letting this through - I've been away, and hadn't realised that the main aim of this person seems to be tocause upset on the list! However, having done that, would like toreply anyway...> Did you know the ancient nomadic warriors of the asian steppes (blood > type B's) gained superiority in battle by drinking the blood of their > horses as they rode. What complete nonsense. They may possibly have drunk the blood oftheir horses in an attempt to frighten their enemies - tactics tofrighten enemies has always been common place. However, what gave thenomadic warriors their superiority were their battle tactics - tacticswhich were adopted by people like Napoleon, and were used regularlyuntil the invention of more powerful weapons in the early 20th centuryby just about everyone.Of course, the historian in me would like to know exactly what thesources are that detail this blood drinking... and what the sourcesare for the blood types of asian warriors (not to mention how on earththey could all have the same blood type!!!!)My suspicion is that this is all some urban myth...BBPeter

You obviously havent seen the range of soy milk available, in most supermarkets its availble sweetened or unsweetened. The one I buy is made with non GM soya beans. The average moo juice you buy is full of puss particles and steroids etc.

You can actually buy soya beans frozen in my local supermarket, they are like small broad beans, a lovely green colour.

I would imagine that most meat has little flavour unless you added some sort of seasoning?

And also moo juice, if you have it in a pudding or milk shake etc, its probably having sugar in there somewhere?

I was referring to SOY PRODUCTS. like they have to add sugar to soy milk or not many would buy it, salt to soy sauce.. etc. Just saying in general I'm sure most people would find a soy product repulsive so they mask it except tofu I guess. For instance I like many type of beans...... I like black beans but I's don't take to no soybeans.. uhg.@gro ups.com, "jo" <jo.heartwork@ ...> wrote:>> What does this reply have to do with the subject?> > Tofu does not have any sugar added, and only a little salt.> > Jo> > -> "Ron" <ron.zzxx@.. .>> <@gro ups.com>> Thursday, September 13, 2007 8:40 PM>

My favourites are the chicken-style pieces, but there are other really good ones too - like the roasts. Frys also do very good analogues, especially their nuggets.

I got waaaay behind on the messages I think, so I apologize if this

has been answered. I was wondering if " braised " tofu is similar

to " baked " tofu? I keep buying it to use in recipes, but as it's so

good plain I've yet to cook with it. LOL I really liked plain

nigari tofu, so of course my store replaced it with blocks of real

cheese. Sigh... I did catch the message about salt, and the only

salt in the ones I have here seem to be a smidge of sea salt in the

soysauce that was used.

I got waaaay behind on the messages I think, so I apologize if this has been answered. I was wondering if "braised" tofu is similar to "baked" tofu? I keep buying it to use in recipes, but as it's so good plain I've yet to cook with it. LOL I really liked plain nigari tofu, so of course my store replaced it with blocks of real cheese. Sigh... I did catch the message about salt, and the only salt in the ones I have here seem to be a smidge of sea salt in the soysauce that was used. , "jo" <jo.heartwork wrote:>> We usually get the basic tofu, although Peter had a braised tofu once which was very tasty, and a different texture. We don't usually marinate it as I'm supposed to be careful with salt. It is very nice fried with a full breakfast. One of my email friends who works for the Vegan Society eats tofu every day and looks extremely healthy on it.> > Jo> > - > fraggle > > Thursday, September 13, 2007 6:06 PM> Re: Re: more on "man the hunted" if you're interested> > > I happen to adore tofu, and eat it plain all the time....> > > > > > > I never thought about the universe, it made me feel small> Never thought about the problems of this planet at all> Global warming, radio-active sites> Imperialistic wrongs and animal rights!

OK, thanks! :) I'm still trying to figure so many things out. :) I

have all these great plans for tofu, but I do like it raw, at least the

firmer ones, so often the recipe ends up without the tofu...I already

ate it. LOL

Thanks for that tofu site, Blake, I take it the Greek scramble uses the

fresh type? Want to make sure. LOL Would Kalamata olives work

instead of green? I like green olives but the only ones I'm finding

here, oddly, seem to have lactic acid, and don't tell the source.
