Guest guest Report post Posted March 18, 2005 Hi Joy, Someone else in the group can probably share more accurate information than this on the Braggs, but it is my understanding that the very process they use to make the stuff causes monosodium glutamate to form and therefore in it's " natural " form (not specifically added to the Braggs) it does contain a fair amount of the stuff. I never use it. Janaki - " Joy King " <joy " Z Raw Seattle " <RawSeattle > Thursday, March 17, 2005 3:56 PM [RawSeattle] Braggs > > Can someone shed some light for me on this product? Guest guest Report post Posted March 18, 2005 I've heard this same thing from my brother - he went to the Health & Healing Crusade in Lodi, CA last summer and a couple of the speakers said this about Bragg's. Guest guest Report post Posted March 19, 2005 Thanks for the follow-up, Janaki - that was info I was looking for - their labels don't say much about the product or process. What about Shoyu? I also see that pop up here and there. Are there any products you might recommend? Guest guest Report post Posted March 20, 2005 Hi---I use Nama Shoyu instead of Bragg's and instead of pasturized Tamari because it's unpasturized and Victoria Boutenko recommended it to us at a workshop. Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 Hi Tracy It is funded and put out by the meat industry, and is very cleverly worded, so as to not actually be untrue. What they highlight is the " phyto-oestrogens " (sp?) which exist in soy. They then state that phyto oestrogens are a bit like oestrogen. They then go on to state that very high levels of oestrogen in the body are bad for you. Thereby they lead you down a path which makes it appear as though the phyto-oestrogens in soy are bad for you... however, they take three major steps which are completely unrelated to do so - there is no actual evidence that soy is bad for you (except in huge quantities, much like any other food!), merely that it contains some elements which are a bit like some other elements which can be bad if they exist in too high quantity in your body! Hope that all makes sense! BB Peter - " Tracy H. Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 Honestly, I don't know what to believe anymore. My basic plan is to stick with the organic raw fruits and veggies without any flavoring or spices. However, it is tough to find true raw nuts. Next spring I am going to plant 4 gardens in my yard and grow some herbs, fruits and veggies. I do eat soy sauce, but won't after I go 100% raw. I am gradually working up to it. My concern is that businesses cannot be trusted. The bottom line is that it all comes down to money, and they will do whatever it takes to make more of it. Even if it means putting junk in their products and covering it up. Anything that is not in it's natural form is at risk of having garbage in it. That's just my opinion. , " Tracy H. Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 Soy is just one of the new "hip" things in the marketplace so, it gets over marketed, overhyped, and then vilified. the whole anti-soy campaign is pushed by either the meat/dairy industry, or by people who insist we eat a diet high in animal protein and fat.... considering that the chinese have how many different styles of tofu and have used it for thousands of years...i find it all sorta silly no food should be used as a the be all end all..no food is a mgic bullet...no food is "complete" its all about diversity and having a varied diet... Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 nuthin that i know of.... Marcy Jul 17, 2007 7:49 PM Re: Braggs So, what's wrong with organic tamari? That's what I use. I like the flavor, but use it sparingly. Marcy - fraggle Tuesday, July 17, 2007 4:44 PM Re: Braggs there are a couple trains of thought i've found on it... and, personally, i don't really buy into the arguments..., but..caveat emptor 1. the soy argument..soy is bad... umm..not gonna comment here 2. salt..braggs has salt when its created...sorry..but..i don't buy the zero salt argument, as we'd keel over and die without some salt... 3. apparently its created with the use of hydrochloric acid..which to some is bad i guess.. personally...i create hydrochloric acid in my stomach...can't be absolutely horrible.. dunno really... there are a number other "annecdotal" reasons i've seen out there..it "hardens the liver", it gives peoples nightmares.. me..i use it on occassion..it's good in some dishes...my partner likes tamari soy better, so we use that more... Marcy Jul 17, 2007 4:30 PM Re: Braggs I've heard Braggs is bad for you, but can't recall the reason. Anyone know? Marcy - fraggle Tuesday, July 17, 2007 2:23 PM Re: Braggs Braggs is Braggs Liquid Aminos its a soy product, like soy sauce its produced by letting soy slurry mix with hydrochloric acid i believe, and allowed to ferment in distilled water... Braggs also produces a raw apple cider, and several other products... hacktorious Jul 17, 2007 1:24 PM Braggs Please help. I am newbie to a Raw Vegan diet. Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 It has alcohol and salt. Ingredients: Water, whole organic soybeans, salt, alcohol (to preserve freshness). http://tinyurl.com/3cfobp , " Marcy " <imgreen03 wrote: > > So, what's wrong with organic tamari? Guest guest Report post Posted July 18, 2007 If you won't be buying any because of what I said, then I didn't explain it properly. Let me try to give a metaphor for what the meat industry say... Soy chunks are square. Squares are shapes, as are circles. If the body is too circular you are obese... therefore eating soy will make you obese. It's clearly nonsense! Guest guest Report post Posted July 19, 2007 Isn't tamari the fermented version of soy sauce? Because it's fermented it digests better, I think. Guest guest Report post Posted July 19, 2007 You won't be buying any what? If it is the meat industry funding the campaign against soya, and there is nothing wrong with soya, then why not buy it? Guest guest Report post Posted July 19, 2007 It depends on the spices. I think if they are home made they are OK. I have not seen any that are organic, but they would probably be fine. Many of the spices I have seen have preservatives and are high in sodium. , " heartwerk " <jo.heartwork wrote: > > What do you think is wrong with using spices? > > Jo
