We have a lovely little toad living in the porch. Just lately he must have taken to sitting on the little ledge of the door, because every time I open the door, he falls into the kitchen. We also have loads of tiny baby frogs at present. Colin has to walk around the garden to give them plenty of warning when he is going to mow the lawn.

there are things that you can do to attract them.

for example toad houses,

http://www.butterfly-gifts.com/toad-houses.html

they love to hide in these during the day and come out at night.

you can put them underneath a bush or something.

you have to watch out that fairies don't move in.

I have toads, the only problem is that he/she ate all of the

ladybeatles that I had release that day.

I did not know this until I actually saw it happen.

he was so thrilled at the ladybeetle dinner that he didn't care

that I was real close to him, watching him.

We give them names.

I had not realized that oakland was that developed.

in the (parrots of san francisco movie) there seem to be some nature

left.

i have never been there. oh well.

I myself have notice the decline in frogs,

as you walk around my neighborhood, you can see this

chemicaly bubble with lots of irridescent colors, this liquid

runs on the sidewalk whenever it rains, and

of course it is Roundup, pesticides, that people use to beautify their

lawns.

here is a cutie for ya!

Hi Peter

I think they are in decline. We used to see more.

Which birds eat frogs? We don't have any rooks or crows or magpies

coming in at the moment. We have lots of small birds - chaffinches,

bluetits, great-tits, coal tits, and long-tailed tits, robins,

greenfinches, nuthatch, tree-creeper, bullfinches and the greater

spotted woodpecker.

Hi Fraggle

They wouldn't make it. At certain times of the year here the toads

cross the road, and lots of them get killed. We do have signs up

warning drivers, and it has helped a little.

Hi Jo

So sweet!!! They must be lovely to listen to.

Has the toad told you his name yet? If not, may I suggest calling him

George? :)

We have the loveliest praying mantis that has been visiting all summer

(his name is George). He started out in my cucumbers but now that they

are all dead, so he has opted for the tomatoe plants across the yard.

Towards the end of the day he grabs the last rays of sun on the

drainspout from the garage.

Zak and I enjoy talking with him every day.

they need water to lay their eggs.

we dug a hole in the ground last year until it was a little pond

and this little pond is home to thousands of frogs.

I say thousands, because every night I hear mating/sexual activity

Hee heee, by frogs.

then the next morning I see tiny little dots in a jelly like substance.
