Guest guest Report post Posted October 28, 2005 Hi Nikki I didn't lock them up - honest guv! :-) It's funny how there's always a small number of people who contribute on a list, even with a lot of members. I must admit to being on a few lists that I don't really post to very often. Oh please do tell them to sing louder! I love a good sing-a-long. And from what I hear, we have a member who posts here who is quite good at it. I guess only time will tell on that one though... Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Hi! *waves at Peter and Jo* Well, I just joined but am happy to delurk even though I never know what to say when introducing myself to a new list! I'm Alex, have been vegan for a couple of months but have been used to cooking and baking vegan food for friends for a while now and I was already a vegetarian so the leap wasn't that great for me. I write long sentences, as you can see, because I am Italian, although I live in England and, apparently, that is a common trait for us waffling Europeans on the other side of the channel ;-) My mom is already coming up in a cold sweat about what to feed me when I will visit at Xmas as being vegan is not that common back in Italy (as far as I know). Anyway, what are children for if not to perturb their parents with their life choices? I am already scared of what my daughter will do to annoy me when she grows up (she's just coming up to 2 on Monday) :-) Ok, I think I have waffled enough now. Back to lurking.... Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Hi Alex (Jo waving :-) ) It's good to have you on the list -your English is excellent. I hope you enjoy it here. Do join in, or start new threads. Maybe you could suggest recipes for your Mum to cook for you for Christmas. Guest guest Report post Posted October 30, 2005 Hi Nikki, you never know who is lurking on the internet, who is watching every key that you touch on the keyboard. (hello fbi and cia!) I think that some lurkers check in only sometimes, because they can't keep up with the chattering for some reason or another. It would be nice if we could just meet ourselves in person and have tea at a cafe one evening! I read a report that said that more and more people are meeting online and many of them even getting married. It no longer is considered weird anymore to make a friend that you first met online. , " heartwerk " <jo.heartwork@g...> wrote: > > Hi Nikki > > I didn't lock them up - honest guv! :-) > > It's funny how there's always a small number of people who contribute > on a list, even with a lot of members. Guest guest Report post Posted October 30, 2005 Hi Anouk, You are so right, it can even get pretty scary too. I would love to meet a lot of people I know via online. I've made some pretty great friends this way. As for marraige, I can see it. You tend to be a bit more relaxed with a screen in front of you than in person. Ok, at least I do. lol So shall we all meet for tea on Thursday at the Sears Tower? Guest guest Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Hi there, I am happy to be pestered for recipes! To be honest quite a few Italian meals are already vegan or can easily be adpated. So go on, ask away and I'll try to oblige :-) Why did you choose England? plenty of room in Wales? That is a very good question as I love Wales! Just circumstances (in the past) and right now it would be hard to shift my life (and those of everyone around me: partners, child, friends, etc...) to Wales. One of my long-term projects is to learn to speak Welsh and spend many holidays exploring your beautiful land further. It is just one of those places I feel very connected to. Maybe I have some ancestors there, who knows. I am going to an Italian restaurant with my works for our Christmas meal, you can imagine how I am going to stick out like a sore thumb, and how am I going to ensure that the pasta is semolina not egg pasta?...will I even know when it is served up? If it is not fresh pasta, it should be just wheat. Every decent Italian restaurant should be able to tell you whether their pasta is wheat or egg (pasta all'uovo, that is egg pasta, is actually a particular type, most dry pasta is vegan). They should also have purely tomato based sauces and salad (make sure it is without the wrteched salad cream of course ;-) Also, if they are a proper Italian place (I mean not an Italo-American one, sorry!), their pizza basis should be vegan so you might be able to have the veggie pizza without the cheese. Is it worth you ringing ahead or popping in to have a chat with them? What will you be having for your christmas dinner? My mother is already fretting about that! I shall enjoy her creativity as I am descending on her with lifepartner, his mom and our daughter for Xmas :-) If she is desperate I would probably make some vegan lasagna (bringing some melty vegan cheese with me from the UK), or cous cous and vegetables or possibly make a mexican meal of chilli or fajitas. Lurk No Longer........We have spotted you now! Does that mean I am doomed then? ;-) Alex

Guest guest Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Grazie e buonasera :-) I am not sure vegan places are that common in Italy! Although Rome does have a vegetarian restaurants, which, I believe, has vegan options. Guest guest Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Tell them you are allergic, they'll take you more seriously (sad but true). It should actually say on the menu if it pasta all'uovo. dried pasta is cheaper and therefore far more common in most dishes to be honest...On 29/10/05, peter hurd <swpgh01 wrote: Obviously I will ask, but would I be able to tell if they ignore it and use their fresh pasta?
