Sheesh, Fraggle, there is Sidelines in Arcata on the Plaza and it certainly

doesn't close down at 8. And Eureka is right next door and has the Six

River Brewery and Lost Coast Brewery. Plus 3 casinos within 20 minutes <g>

I envy you two! I have neither the time nor money to see so much,

but I wish I did!!!

Not that I am complaining because I have had the privilege of

visiting a couple of places when I was younger, but nothing like

this!

I used to live in Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) just down the highway from the Kenwood Winery. A couple of years ago my mom toured England. She went into a restaurant and ordered a bottle of wine. They gave her Kenwood wine and couldn't figure out why she sent it back. "It's imported!" the waiter told her. :)

Here in Phoenix, Az the roads are laid out very well. Central is the middle east/west street. The streets going east are number as east, like east 44th st and the western streets are avenues. Then each major street going north/south is 1 mi apart and you memorize the names, like Bethany Home, 1 mi north is Camelback, etc. Addresses are also given in co-ordinates like 32nd Street and Camelback. Really logical. The cities surrounding us, well they aparently didn't like the logical. fraggle <EBbrewpunx wrote:

Yes there are speed limits in the U.S. Each state has it's own. Some are 65, 70, and 75. But not everyone drives the limit... :-) Some of us have a heavy foot when it comes to driving. Our smaller roads, like yours, are slower, about 30 - 45 mph.

When I went to LA a couple of years ago for my son's heart surgery I came to a decision. Phoenicians definately are much, much worse than LA drivers! Here, you've got your snowbirds doing 30 on the fwy, where it's posted 65, and then you've got others doing 100, cutting around everyone, a hairbreath away from their vehicle. My DH, being a very large intimiadating person, has no problem doing the speed limit. When I do, people get so irate that I'm afraid I'll get shot one of these days. In fact, someone sideswiped me the other day in their Beamer and drove off. Officer says nothing can be done, u see.fraggle <EBbrewpunx wrote:

That sounds sensible. In MIlton Keynes the roads are done in a

gridlike fashion - presumably because it is a new town. Our other

towns/cities are all old and based on odl tracks I suppose.
