Hi,

I think for the most part yes but always good

to check the label.

Q. I have severe lactose intolerance. I always

experience LI problems when eating products with

mayonnaise. I also know other LI people who have the

same problem. Is it the caseinate in it that is giving

me problems?

I always thought that all regular mayonnaise was

lactose free. This turns out to be almost, but not

quite true. At the supermarket I found a couple of

Kraft fat free products that contained a tiny amount

of dried cream and a correspondant found a variety of

Helman's that does contain caseinate.

So is lactose the problem here? Probably not.

Very few people would react to a tiny amount of dried

cream or to the usually lactose-free caseinate.

It is much more likely that if anything is

bothering you about mayonnaise it is the eggs,

especially the yolks, to which many people are

sensitive. Some fat free mayonnaise has egg whites but

no yolks. And there are egg-free mayonnaises in health

food stores. You might try them just an as experiment.

Lactose-Free

Bacon, butter, margarine without milk derivatives

mayonnaise, gravy made without milk or milk products

CherylC, yes - if something is vegan, it's also vegetarian. However,

the reverse is not true - a vegetarian food may have egg whites, honey

etc. in it that are not vegan.

Hey there!

I can not vouch for the accuracy...but a quick search on ask.com brought up

this text page:

http://www.tnt.uni-hannover.de/subj/other/cooking/Umrechnungen.txt

There is a lot of info here; the can size info is at the very bottom.

According to this chart:

No. 303 16 - 17 ounces

Hope this helps!

Hi Karen,

Welcome and congratulations on discovering raw! If you stick with it, you

are opening a wonderful door to health, healing and happiness!

I don't know about the bruises, honestly. I didn't experience that and have

never heard that. But I really wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, it is normal to have days of less energy. Your body is going through a

big change and doing much needed internal cleansing and will need some days

to rest sometimes. Listen to you body. Fast or eat very lightly (juicy

fruits) on the days you don't feel as well and get lots of rest. You may

find that reducing your fat intake by eliminating nuts, seeds, oils, and

avocados will help with your energy levels.

Being raw will definitely help your body recover from PCOS. I've read many

testamonials online about women healing from PCOS on raw. :-)

Don't weigh yourself often. There is no reason to. A better gage is how you

feel and how your clothes are fitting.

Don't use apple cider vinegar. There is nothing in it you need, it is not

really food for humans.

Good luck and all the best!!!

My weight loss has not been as dramatic as some. I know I eat a lot of

nuts and avocado but I don't stress over it. I have lost 10 pounds in

7/8 weeks. Which is good for me as I have never been successful on any

weight loss diet.

Hi there!

I'm new to the raw food life and I was on a program called BFL (Body For

Life). Basically eating healthier, smaller portions, and eating more frequently

in addition to an exercise program. Even with very little exercise, I lost 4

lbs in about 1-2 weeks. I switched out my food to raw when I started reading

more about raw food and realized that BFL requires excessive protein (40%) and

not nearly enough veggies. Without much exercise and about 60% raw food, and

8-10 cups of water per day, I lost another 5 lbs in a about a week. Please note

I also have a lot to lose (+100) so it comes off quicker than when you only have

like 15-30 lbs to lose. Good luck!

Hi there,

" Most " people will lose all the weight they need pretty effortlessly on a

raw vegan diet, especially if you are conscious about lowering your fat

intake as you go along. You may not want to worry about lowering it at first

as you become accustomed to eating raw though, since fat does help people

feel more satisfied at first.

I lost at least 60lbs without even trying, I'm not sure exactly how much I

lost because I didn't want to weigh myself when I was at my heaviest. :-)

You can see my before and after pics in the " My Story " section of my

website.

Hi Susan,

Not everyone loses a lot of weight on the raw food diet. I know most

people do, but some of us with 'caveman' constitutions have a little

harder time taking it off. I've been at this for years, and can

honestly tell you that even though I look good, am very healthy and fit

and all that, I've never quite reached my goal weight. I get close to

it when I fast, but even on a lowfat raw diet I seem to have a setpoint

that won't let me get really thin. Tell your friend not to despair!

This is a society where women are brainwashed by the media into feeling

that they must all look like a very skinny 14- or 16-year-old. I'm

about 20-25 lb. over that mark, but I feel great in my clothes and I

know that I'm eating an optimal diet that's correct for me. The party

line is that we raw foodies should all be super-slim-- and often this

is true for men, who frequently complain of losing too much weight--

but it just doesn't hold for everyone.

I " release " my weight. If I lose something I usually want to find it! I don't

want to find the weight I've lost - hence I release the weight!!!

this is very interesting and wonderful to lose the weight. I would like to hear

from others in this group who may have low thyroid. this can often be a problem

with weight gain and I would like to know how the raw diet works with this.

Hi Karen,

There really aren't any " magic bullet " foods or supplements, raw or

otherwise. The best thing for you to do is to go 100% raw and stay raw. I've

read several testamonials of women with PCOS who healed on a raw diet.

All the best!

I don't have a problem with PCOS but I'm hypothyroid. I found it

impossible to maintain any kind of weight loss until I went 100% raw

and stayed that way. Then it was no problem at all. It melted off and

hasn't stopped yet. Keep looking! You'll find what you need!

Liquid smoke adds a wonderful flavor to beans. Just a little goes a long way

and you won't even miss the meat. Zero fat/cholesterol.

Hi Becky,

I cook all kinds of beans and lentils with lots of veggie

ingredients, and they taste great. Add onions, garlic, green

peppers, carrots, herbs (Spike is a good, easy, salt free mixture of

herbs), some extra virgin olive oil and a little Bragg's aminos for

flavor. Sometimes I add curry powder for a different flavor.

For flavoring beans, I use onions and garlic always (just chop them up

and put them in with the beans when they are cooking) and maybe a

carrot, and then add herbs and spices according to the bean/dish/my

mood. Some of my favorites are cumin, sage, smoked paprika, rosemary,

yellow curry powder, and chinese 5-spice powder...not all those

combined, but one or two of them at a time (favorite combo is cumin,

smoked paprika and curry powder with lentils). If, after tasting

them, they need some salt, I just add a little bit of braggs liquid

aminos, which is like soy sauce but WAY lower in sodium and a lot

better for you. There are also things like Spike and Mrs. Dash that

add a lot of flavor without any salt. It may take some time for you

to get used to beans not tasting fatty and salty, but your mouth will

adjust. I know I like the taste of beans better now that I rarely add

any salt...I can actually taste the beans.

Hi Becky,

They won't taste exactly the same (when I go to veggie heaven, my

stepdaddy's bbq & beans & collards will be magically vegetarian,

hallelujah ;) ) but if you add a little bit of good olive oil at the

end of cooking, it adds some of that richness. Adding celery during

cooking can add a bit of a salt-like taste, or some parsley at the end.

If you don't mind the heat, a smushed chipotle chili with some of the

adobo sauce adds that smoky bacon fat taste nicely.

Try adding some long-wise slices of Plantano about 10 or 15 min before a

bean dish is finished. That should gibe the (ripe) plantano time to cook

through and sweeten. It adds a noce taste sensation, especially if you make

your bean dishes on the spicy side.

I sautee ripe plantanos in with my variations on Thai dinners. Plantain

makes a nice complement to the 'heat' of the prik kee noo Asian chili.

In a few weeks or so ... I wll be making gobs of Apple Banana dishes ... I

have a bunch about to ripen ,,,, I will give most of the hands to some of my

friend girls in the area that do not have banana stands.

I never use salt ... and generally omit any requirement for salt from a

recipe.

In cooking beans ... One thing I do like to do is use only about 1/2 the

amount of water neesed to cook and the memaing 1/2 I substitute Dole's

Peach/Mango/Orange Juice .
