I don't know who sold you that one, but do some more reading.I used to believe that some ten years ago. Actually, the absolute best way to get any nuitrition is from the food you eat.Vitamins and minerals that are concocted and then treated as natural pose a real danger to the health illiterate community as well as those of us too lazy to or complacent to use our basic high school health information to our long/short term benefit.

With the passage of the industrial era, particularly here in the west, the masses have come to see tha grocery store as the food origination source. I am also an elementary school teacher, and I see this as a growing concern even among the very young. They watch their parents and other adults whom they respect, and pretty much come to the same conclusion.

The healthier among us still live closer to the soil. . . .but I do see where you are going. These ar smart cookies here. . . .they've heard that before. Please note that none of what I just said is to discount the importance of medicine, but prevention is always the best line of defense.

Just a little anticipation of your retort my friend.

Hello,

I see that you are also a vegetarian. Did you know that from the fruits and veggies we eat today we are only getting 2 of the 8 essential sugars that we need for cellular communication? So basically nowadays we are eating nutrient deficient fruits and vegetables.

Hi Sarah

You can call yourself vegan once you have stopped eating anything animal, and have made a definite mental commitment. Good luck.

Hey Sarah,

i've only been completely vegan for about a month but i consider myself vegan. i think once you make the commitment to not eat animals to save lives, then you're a vegan. Thank you for helping the cause.

PS Found this too:

However, you can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda

and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one

part baking soda.

Hi Jenni:

according to Sweet And Natural by Meredith McCarthy the only good

source of fructose is fruits, where it occurs naturally. Fructose is

a highly processed derivative of corn syrup.

I would assumes crystalline fructose is simply crystalized fructose?

Pecting is a natural ingredient, found in fruits. When mixed with the correct

balance of acid and sugar, it will thicken or gel.

recipes for us.

I know they will be good ones.

I would have thought that pectin would be fine - is it not made from

apples?

i would allow it in my veg diet. i have also seen pectin

[called Sure-Gel by brand name] listed in the ingredients

of recipes on vegan recipe sites. As far as i know it is a

vegetarian product, though recently a person on another

list questioned the company that makes it, and while they

said the pectin was vegetable/fruit in origin, the company

would not say that everything in the box was from animal-free

sources 100% of the time... but typically it was.

My feeling on this was they were just afraid to say 100% all

the time because of the remote possibility of being sued if

they were to change the make-up of their product.

i am a dietary lacto-ovo vegetarian so i would feel alright about

using pectin in a recipe, but maybe some ethical vegans would

not. But it is okay, in my opinion as this list's moderator for you to

share a recipe with pectin in it. Hope i wasn't too confusing! *lol*

I love those! I usually just chop them and add them to granola and yogurt, or

to sugar or oatmeal cookies.
