they recommend you use a biodiesel blend with petroleum at low temps, a

anti-geling formula er a engine heater...

and..if they were in the shell, they don't need to be in the fridge

ah..wotever...hahahaha..i give up...i don't keep nuts in the fridge, never seen

any reason to, didn't know of anyone who did, er would want to...

We alwaysd buy about a month's supply of nuts at a time and keep them in the fridge. I have noticed that if you buy them weekly the best before date tends to be the same for weeks on end anyway, so you will be buying from the same batch. Might as well keep them fresh in your fridge rather than go back weekly to buy the same nuts from the warmer shop.

I do, but figger that during the summer (re nuts), my house is around 90 degrees or so! Speaking of vehicles, I ask fraggle-who-knows-most-all a question. I saw an advertisement (actually, someone gave me a small portion of the ad) where a business can get at least $15,000 credit on taxes. I looked on www.irs.gov and didn't see anything telling what that might be about. I understand that the so called green tax credits ended already. Woohooo - this now makes 5 of us who do, compared to 4 who don't.... others have kept quiet on the issue, but looks like not keeping nuts in the fridge is the "crazy" side based on the so-far random sample of vegans :-)

The other day I got out a huge bag of almonds I wanted some with a banana after my workout (doc said I should hit the recumbant bike and wait 2 weeks for the treadmill, but 2 weeks longer before I'm allowed to dance, boo hoo) and they had gone rancid. Dangit! Our house has been in the mid to low 60's since it got cold here. I was so disappointed! I used to keep our nuts in our chest freezer. They wree really good frozen, extra crunchy. my nuts don't last long enough, to be in a cabinet or a refrigerator!!

 

we eat them right away. we love nuts.

I buy a different kind every weeek, pistachios, sunflowers seeds,

pumkin, cashews, peanuts, almonds etc.

 

Ideally, I would keep them in a glass Jar on top of a coffee table

in the living room. So that my guests can help themselves

Hi Debbie,

Welcome! this is such a great bunch of folks who are very generous with

information, recipes, support and encouragement. I've been here a few months

and consider it a comforting home. I went vegetarian about six months ago

and have been a vegan about a month. Today I threw out the last non vegan

bag of cow's milk chocolate chips. I scattered the chips all over the

garbage bag so I couldn't get 'em out again. <G> I know myself! So, no more

chocolate chips for me until I buy the vegan semisweet ones. I don't really

like semisweet but I can learn to, I reckon.

 

Anyway! Said all that to let you know I understand it can be hard at times

to be vegan. But it's soooo worth it in every way!

 

Your chili sounds good, sans the hot stuff. I'm a hot stuff coward.:>)

Welcome! Glad that you found us. It is a mix group of people with great input

and advice. I am a strict vegan meaning that there are no food or products in my

house that contain animal ingredients or were tested on animals. That includes

clothing. Of course there are things that are here that have been processed with

animal by-products....like glue in the furniture or wood that used things of

animal origin in their making, but I didn't know any better when I got them. So

you just do the best you can with what you have on whatever path that you take.

I am a Jewish Buddhist....so I say anyway...don't blame it on either of them

though.

 

We considered adopting a retired Greyhound and looked into it, but we have a

little tiny dog with bulgy eyes, LOL, half Italian Greyhound and half Chihuahua

named Chickie for the banana. How original huh! And then we have three cats all

rescued, one from a pet store that I forced in to giving to me when they

wouldn't treat her medically. She is Minnie Mouse, my soul mate.

 

I am lucky, everyone that I live with are vegans so I have a sweet time eating.

We have a wonderful totally vegan restaurant here that is to die for...THE LOTUS

GARDEN...kind of a joke in here since I rub everyone's nose in it. I am in

Oregon and there are a number of us here who are too. Two of us live in my area

and we get together to pig out at THE LOTUS GARDEN. (that is for you ~PT~)

Introduction

 

 

Good afternoon

I just wanted to introduce myself, My name is Debbie I live in Flat Rock,

MI. I'm 50 years old and have been a vegatarian for 10+years, my new years

resolution is to take the next step and work on going vegan. I have 2 daughters

grown and on their own, and 4 dogs Boo (9 years old) a rescued retired

greyhound, Guido (8) Italian Greyhound adopted him from a shelter, Curro (12)

he is a spanish Galgo/greyhound came to the USA 3 1/2 years ago and DJ (5)a

foster of 2 years (I know he is staying) greyhound mix from the humane society.

 

I have no friends or family that are vegatarians so I was so happy to come

accross this group last weekend. I have been reading the post and saving the

recipes,

 

I became a vegatarian because I love all animals and could no longer justify

eating them.
