My store has plenty of raw nuts of every kind. I roast them when I get home though so that fixes it.

My refrigerator I keep at 34 F and the olive oil sets up in there so never refrigerate it. However I don't think any of the other oils do, but I buy small and use quickly so no need to worry about it going rancid. Again you have to translate the F to C.

Hi Peter

I thought I remembered the ones you brought back with you seemed to be

roasted - they were certainly different to our nuts.

I must admit that I have never kept olive oil in the fridge, but do keep it

in a very cool dark cupboard. One year we had a very cold spell (we don't

have central heating) and the dishcloth froze to the draining board. I had

left the bottle of oil on the draining board that night, and it didn't set

or get very thick or anything untoward.

Same here. Here they are about $8 a pound and I can easily go

through at least a pound a week.

I cannot afford an investment of much more.

Good goddess! Probably, and I have of course thought of that aspect. However, longevity over quality of life is not my goal. I am already old and have sucked down more than my share of toxins including radiation...lived right beside a nuclear power plant that was deliberately releasing radioactive Iodine 131 while my mother was pregnant and through out my little bitty childhood. That is why I don't need lighting in my house. I love my nuts roasted and salted. But I start from raw. Expensive little boogers.

I'm in the states and I keep mine in the refrigerator

too, so they won't go rancid (except unshelled nuts).

I keep nuts in the fridge too if I have room, I have read it preserves them

better if they are

cool. I have a central heating radiator in my kitchen and it can get quite warm

in there.

Brazil nuts and almond are rather nasty if they go rancid.

Not personally, but some people do run their cars on used vegetable oil, and

you never hear them complain about it freezing.

It seems crazy because you don't need to - you could buy in bulk and save

yourself some journeys... thereby helping the environment through less

vehicle use...
