Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the group. You all have posted such yummy

recipes. A BIG thanks to you!

I'm looking foward to corresponding through this

group. My family is originally from Egypt, and my

husband is Kenyan, so I'll be able to add some yummy

dishes myself :-)

Hi Nevine and welcome! I can't wait to see what recipes you'll

post. I just created a huge file section for foods from around the

world and I'm looking forward to those getting filled up with yummy

recipes. Can you talk at all about what typical Egyptian or Kenyan

food is like?

Huh. My theory is more one of moderation in all things, including

not going to worry about it. And pizza is A LOT healthier than much of

what's out there.

~*~ Yeah, it is a wonderful sandwich spread. I love finding veggie dip recipes

like this to use as sandwich fillers. They really dress up the usual between

the bread items and make brown bagging more interesting. People are

always curious what us vegetarians manage to eat. Often they oooooo and

So do I. I don't go outside and hunt them down outdoors,

welcome in the house. Well, actually, even if they *were*

paying the mortgage they wouldn't be welcome in the house...

Thanks JC. I didn't eat too much dinner yesterday. I had a roll, some tossed

salad, mashed potatoes, some other veggie salad relish thing, green beans

and iced tea. Now after that I think I did overindulge on the dessert table, but

at least it didn't make me all sleepy and dopey like the turkey was making the

others act at this gathering. *lol* They were all yawning..... or maybe it was

due to my boring conversation? ;-)

BTW, the cooks there put turkey in the sage dressing and it looked so mushy

and yucky! Bleh. I knew I should have taken a little casserole dish of a

vegetarian version of stuffing; I didn't starve though by any means, even

without my favorite dish on Thanksgiving.

The only recipie I have is from the box but here it is:

Conventional oven-

preheat oven to 350F and remove thawed roast from plastic wrap.

Combine 1/8 cup Orange Juice, 1/8 cup soy sauce, and 1 TBLS. Brown

sugar or other sweetener. Wrap tofu roast in foil and baste with OJ

mixture. Place on baking sheet and bake 45 minutes. Slice and

serve hot with vegan gravy.

Hope that helps!

Leslie, how do you rate Tofurkee? I didn't like the gravy near as

much as my own and and didn't care for the sweet drumsticks. I has

been years since I bought it and maybe just a personal preference. I

used to make a bacon tempeh with a touch of maple but balanced it

with soysauce, ceyanne, garlic, onion, cummen, mustard, and a drop of

smoke. David*

This is a very interesting topic for me, so thanks to JC for asking

the " dumb "

questions; you go girl. *lol*

David, you mentioned you have a better recipe for gravy. Could you

post it

here again if you have already. I would really love to have it. Also

the bacon

tempeh recipe sounds interesting. Thanks in advance.

I am planning on buying a tofu turkey for Yule. I already have some

side dish

ideas I plan on making, but knowing more about this item before I

cook will

be a big help.

Honestly I'm not a big fan of Tofurkee, though it is much better than

any other " turkey " type product I've tried. I've never really liked

turkey, stuffing or gravy. I only eat it due to Thanksgiving. I'm

hoping to find something better for next year. If you have any ideas

let me know =)

Hi PT,

Since we vary flavors and color of gravy with different misos,

someone else might have a good white gravy recipe to share. I like

using miso soybase with rice or barley and GimmeLean burger or

Yves " ground round " to start. If you are careful about fried foods

you can bake the mock burger before making the gravy. Also to have

smooth gravy, omit burger and replace onion bits with powder.

In a large frying pan add fine chopped onion or dehydrated and

crushed garlic to burger [be liberal]. After quick saute, add favored

seasons such as powdered onion, cayanne, cummin, italian herbs, dill,

or parsley, nori and 6 cups of water.

While its coming to a boil, mix 3 tbsps of miso with cold water and

cornstarch and add to water. Mix in half cup of nutritional yeast and

some cold pressed olive oil and flavor with soysauce. Add more

cornstarch or n.yeast to make thicker or water to thin. Hope you get

the idea from this. This summer I passed on a recipe for a cheese dip

using n.yeast and olive oil and one for grain burgers and will look

over posts when I get a chance. Cheers, David *

I hadn't even heard of this! The news has been

concentrating so much on the shuttle (local news

anyway, b/c it's a Texas disaster). How very, very,

very sad! I get very bummed when children die.

We had an incident the day before yesterday right up

the road from my house...The owner of the Tractor

Supply stores was shot twice by his spoiled son. He's

on life support right now. The boy apparently wasn't

happy with his father's decision to ground him from

his car. Anyway, apparently there were guns ALL over

the house. Ahhh...The burbs.

Warmly,

AAAHHH Carole, I'm sorry you are a homesick Brit. Hang

in there okay? Takes time to get use to.

Hi JC,

There are things about the USA that I like better than England...... but it's

still not home after 28 yrs! My husband is American (Retired Air Force). I don't

know if I would enjoy living in England full time. A visit once in a while would

be great. I haven't been home since Sept. 1994, so it's way past time. It's the

money thing that stops me, and as of now, Richard has been unemployed for 8

months. I think the problem is he is 56 yrs old and over qualified. Thanks for

your concern

Glen,

Hi there, I also have worked as a chef in the past.

I'm in the process of opening a vegan bakery/cafe in

my little town of Niagara Falls, Canada, and I'm

always looking for good suggestions for my menu. If

you know of any good vegan treats, throw them at me,

I'm always interested in trying new things:D

Hey Karen, Welcome, I hope you will not be shy and jump in with any subjects you like. Whats it like in Hong Kong for vegans? I get the impression that it may not be too great? Hi Karen & WELCOME!

I honestly do not know much about Hong Kong and what you can get

there, but if there is anything specific I can help with I will do
