Does anyone know of some good raw foods recipes for Thanksgiving? I

had some at one time and lost them. They were from the Butenko's

classes.

Thank you!

Good morning,

Victoria gave those classes the first year I was raw and I still have the

handouts. There are about a half dozen raw foodists here in Morgantown so

we're talking about getting together for a Thanksgiving feast and trying

these recipes. I can scan them and put them in the files/photos area of the

website if you'd like.

Hi Laura,

I think we talked on the phone before the potluck at our place last Saturday

that you ended up not making. At the potluck we all decided that Susan & I

would host a potluck on Thanksgiving instead of the potluck on the 1st Sat

of Dec and that Orion & Eric would host a potluck in Seattle in our normal

" time slot " on Dec 3. The details should be on the website soon - hope to

see you then.

I'm not sure what Chaco Canyon is doing on Thanksgiving (I think they're

closed), but I know their 5 course " monthly " feast is the day after on

Friday.

Tom

PS We also love Cousin's book - most of our meals are made with his recipes

(as well as following his " program " healed Susan of thyroid cancer in less

than a year!).

Hi Tom,

Yes, I was the one who called you. Thanks! It was great to talk

with you. Thank you for letting me know about the Thanksgiving

Gathering/Potluck at your home. That will be great : ) Are people

bringing " mashed potatoes " , " stuffing " , " cranberry

sauce " , " pie " , " turkey " , or isn't it organized like that? I went to

a Thanksgiving talk one year by Victoria Butenko and she gave us a

hand-out with all of these recipes, which I made for a few years. I

have since lost the hand-out. Does anyone have it or know where I

could find these recipes? Some of them recipes were very good : )

BTW, I think the repsonses to the Black Tie Affair are great. Its

true, one of the goals of this is to turn our attention away from

food. Its amazing how strong those feelings of deprivation can be

if you focus on them. I think the idea of finding a balance by

nurturing yourself first with foods you are eating, ie. live foods,

and then going and enjoying the company of the people there and the

environment is the way to go.

Thank you and take care.

Hi Laura,

It was suggested by people who had been to Thanksgiving potlucks in the past

that organization is the way to go so we will be structuring it in some

way - details to follow on the event calender site. Feel free to be the

first to claim your dish!

I don't have Victoria's recipes but I do have recipes from a Thanksgiving

dinner class we took from Bruce last year if that helps (or sign up for his

class on the 19th this month at Chaco Canyon).

Take care,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your message. Wow, what a supportive group! I know

there are a bunch of recipes around for " mashed potatoes " . I am

sure I can handle that! Thanks everyone. Maybe we could play some

music (I mean play it). I have a drum and I play the harmonium...

Does anyone have a harmonium or play harmonium?

Take care,

See, this is what happens when you disappear for a couple of days

You hit the wrong dang button, go to the very first post and reply

Good morning, Roxanne,

I took a look at your page and the book has an amazing number of

recipes. Before I laid out the cash, though, I would want to get an

idea of the kinds of recipes it has. Do they include grains and lots

of preparation like dehydrating? Do they use proper food combining?

It would be nice to have a better idea of what you are selling. I

wouldn't want to buy a lot of recipes I wouldn't use.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Carol,

Congrats! Vegan is the life baby!

My name is Belle and I just joined yesterday. My X husband wasn't

willing to go veggie but I have to give him credit for all his

faults (and there were lots of them...JOKING...sort of) he was very

supportive of my vegan life style. He didn't get it but he supported

it.

Nice to meet you!

Hi Belle

Welcome to the list.

Just thought I'd mention that the first couple of posts you've replied to

are about 4 years old - from when we first started the list. The people who

posted them have moved on since! I don't know whether this is messing

about... but you might find it a better representation of the list to look

at the more recent posts :-)

Welcome to the group. We look forward to your post and recipes. Check out the

files here. They are loaded into catagories, so you can find the recipes folks

share, easily.

I'm a life long 3rd generation vegetarian and raising a 4 generation..... Yea

for good vegetarian food to eat!

We're also cat lover here. Aren't they so sweet?

Happy vegetarian cooking,

[sPAM] Hi everyone!

I joined recently and I wanted to say hi to everybody here. I'm

looking forward to sharing recipes and all those fantastic vegetarian

experiences (like... the 30th time someone asks you if you eat animal

crackers).

A quick bit about myself--

I went vegetarian when I was 12 and haven't looked back. I'm an

almost-vegan: I strive to eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and legumes,

but I occasionally have a bit of dairy or eggs. I love to cook and

bake, and I enjoy the creative challenge of converting or inventing

vegetarian dishes, and especially learning how to cook with all the

esoteric produce items available at the farmer's market.

Right now I live in Los Angeles with my almost-vegetarian husband and

an energetic cat named Strudel. As a professional animator, I spend a

lot of time at the studio, but I also find time for lots of cooking,

kickboxing, drawing, and watching movies.

Cheers everybody!

I'm afraid I did not see your email among the many that are sent from

this group, but I just found this email as a link to my site, so I'm

finally responding, and I do apologize for not seeing this sooner!

There are not very many recipes with grains at all (I don't think

there are any...I don't use them raw either...), and there is not a

lot of preparation such as dehydrating or anything. A few involve

dehydrating, but this is very much the exception. As far as food

combining, I am not positive, since I have not paid much attention to

that, but I do believe most have proper food combining. Hope this helps!

I am interested in exchanging links with you, please let me know, and

I'll put your link on my site.

I also have another site I could put your link on:

Hi Nicole;

Welcome to a brave new world! I noticed your post on another vegan site too.

Are you planning to go gluten-free too? ... or just vegan?

Hi Nicole!

I recently adopted a vegetarian way of living. I actually did it at a

time when I don't have much left in the kitchen. I have very little

meat left. I have been phasing out old food with the new. And the

more I cook and eat totally vegetarian, now I cannot eat the meat

items that are left. I am wondering if I will give them away (waste

not, want not) or toss them (not wanting anyone to consume meat,

regardless of the cost). Quite a conundrum.

Good luck with your exams and your new career!

Howdy and Welcome!

My assistant became a vegetarian after she started working here because we are

all vegetarians and I provide the lunch time meal for my employees. She was 18

when she decided to become a veg. and we live in a small mountain farming

community where their idea of a vegetable side dish is french fries.

She met with a lot of resistance, to say the least, from her family because they

thought that it was unhealthy.  I shared some of my own research with them (they

didn't budge because they figured that I was up to something) then I told them

to check the group files and they totally changed their minds.  Not only do they

now support her choice, her mom has one day when the whole family eats

vegetarian and they use the recipes from the files.

This is a good group with lots of information, resources and support so I would

strongly encourage you to use it and I wish you much continued success.

Peace.

Andrea

I have been obsessing over whether to buy a food processor, Vitamix or Blendtec.

The food processor I was using for my smoothies gave out. I use frozen

pineapple/mango in my smoothies and a blender doesn't work at all. I know there

are a lot of Vitamix fans on here, but I was wondering if anybody had looked

into the Blendtec. Also, is it too big to make a one person smoothie? I made a

green smoothie for breakfast every morning (going thru withdrawls now) and want

it to be easy too. Thats why I was considering buying a small food processor.

Any advice from the group?
