Yes, we've had two Bay Area Veg Fairs now - well worth a visit - get

there early and get lots of free samples etc. We got to hang out with

the great man himself, Howard Lyman, on the VegNews stand this year.

Better make a note for Feb 2004 in your diary now so you don't miss

the next one (and if you want to help out I can add you to the

mailing list for volunteers - you get a free T shirt if you help out

!).

Years ago when I lived in San Jose, there was Cal Train that ran from San

Francisco to San Jose. Isn't there a stop in Santa Clara?

Ah, I see. Then you would have a tough time, as it's rather tough to get

from Alameda County to Santa Clara County.

But transit in the Bay Area beats the crappy transit system in the Orlando

area, believe it or not.

I lived in the 'burbs north of Orlando, the coverage was limited, buses

would stop running around 6 or 7 pm--maybe 8 pm if I were lucky--and did not

run on Sunday. They also ran maybe once an hour. Things improved slightly

while I lived there, but not nearly enough. Before I left Orlando for good

(except for visits), I learned that there would finally be Sunday service in

my area. Too little, too late. The ex and I lived in downtown SJ for a

while, then we moved west of downtown. Bus service was kinda spotty at

night, but I could walk home from the mall, a major transfer point, if I had

to.

Orange County is just one big, vile, republican suburb.

Hi Becky

It's good to have you here. Now you have bought the shoes it is wise to use them rather than waste them. I did the same thing a few years ago, and it helped me decide that I would plan ahead so I didn't have to buy anymore leather shoes.

i have loved animals my entire life, when i was born we had 7 pet cats. i

have never lived a day of my life w/o having pets.

when it actually sank in and i relized the pain and suffering animals went

through for me, i decided it was cruel but there was nothing i could do

about it, i was just too busy to change my diet, and i told myself that when

i had a career and didn't have to worry about homework anymore, i would have

more time to convert to a much healthier, vegan diet

but then about a year ago my adorable rabbit, Luke (Skywalker) died and it

just hurt so much that I had to stop eating animals. I thought to myself, I

know I would never eat a rabbit, but what if some guy out there has a pet

cow and would never eat a cow and thinks that people who eat cows are

disgusting? I don't want to be a hypocrit, and so I just stopped eating all

animals right away.

it actually wasn't that hard

I am still a busy person, but I find it much easier, now that I am already

vegan, to prepare vegan foods than it is to marinate and cook meat. infact,

i usually just eat fresh fruit or salads, I don't cook at all. occasionally

I will have a vegan microwave dish.

and also when you're vegan, if it's a healthy vegan diet , not just chips

and salsa, you have more energy and don't get sick (i haven't been sick,

maybe other people have though) and so you have even MORE time to do stuff

so now i've realized that saying you don't have time is just a lame excuse,

but i can understand how someone would THINK it, because before my bunny

died, I felt the same way.

I hope you find another way to easily make the transfer, guilt-free...a way

that is different from mine

Hi Cindi! I already know you from the veggroup.

Nice to have you here as well and thanks for

posting an intro.

Be sure to check out our files! :)

I am lucky to have a wonderful 2x/week year-round Farmers Market to get all

sorts of

yummy produce. I've been a vegetarian for about 1.5 years now. Before that I

was eating

some turkey here & there; but had stopped red meat about a year before that.

Welcome to the group. Check out the files for great recipes and please share

some of your own Tried and True recipes. This is a great group and you'll enjoy

it. What is your Gluten Roast recipe? We love Gluten. We just had some of

the Worthington Vegetable Skallops for dinner tonight. They were so good.

Intro

Hello, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I've been a

vegetarian for about 20 years and the last 5 years I lean more toward

vegan. My favorite foods are broccoli and tofu. Tomorrow for

Christmas I have started a Gluten Roast for the main dish for my dd

and myself. I am excited about this group and getting to know some

other vegetarians and get some new recipes!!
