Hi Flo,

Welcome, I'm sure you'll feel right at home here. I have not heard/seen

Howard Lyman speak, but I am in the process of reading his book, " Mad

Cowboy " and boy oh boy...is it ever an eye/stomach/heart opener. Heart as in

compassion.

I take it you have heard him speak? I bet that was great!

Not sure about the " spirit of this group " , but there are vegetarians and

vegans here. I was a vegetarian for six months, thought I'd go vegan, didn't

have anything to help me do it and decided I couldn't--and then ordered some

books on Amazon germane to the subject as well as conversed with others here

about different vegan aspects of cooking/baking, and have realized I can and

will be vegan,,,as well as my dh. For the animals, for our health, for the

world. We are involved in our church and some people are semi-interested in

vegetarian eating; we haven't had a chance yet to note to them that we have

gone vegan. Should be interesting, all right. We're viewed as sort of freaks

as it is, LOL. Have you read the book, " Vegan Freaks: Being Vegan In A

Non-Vegan World " by the Torres's? Terrific book.

I threw out all the eggs and butter in the fridge two days ago. :>) Came to

the point where I realized I couldn't make my Christmas teacakes--or even

pancakes!--because if I did I would have to use that butter. So ...I'm

making the teacakes & pancakes later ...like maybe tomorrow... our cash flow

is low until the end of the week, so it depends. But this is my first vegan

declaration to myself, and though small, it feels like a giant step

inwardly.

I'm sure Donna will give you ideas on the spirit of the group other than

what I've said here and really, I'm pretty new to the group myself. I

sometimes talk a lot. <G>

Welcome, and look forward to getting to know you,

Bron

HI,

I'm Sherry, I have been around the community for a while now, and am

going through a change. I am staying away from meat, and really need

some ideas for protein alternatives. I am not big on beans, but will

try if I have to. Any suggestions will help alot.

Thank you,

Hi Connie,

There are alway's lentils, seafood, protein powder which are good sources of

proteins too &

low in fat, unless it's added. All the steps of the program are very important,

in order. Did

both you and your husband do the steps together? If so, that would be really

cool, just

wondering?

Hi to all,

I have recently joined this group. My husband and I have been sugarfree

for 5 1/2 years. When we first started PnP/YLD we didn't think it was

possible. This program WORKS! We prefer to eat little meat but worry

about getting enough protein. We have BIG bodies. I have tried tofu and

soybeans, but don't like them. I like bean and rice combos but worry

about not getting enough protein without the addition of meat or

cheese. I like cheeses and nuts but we are trying to stay away from

fat. I am looking foward to getting lots of ideas from the group. Connie

Our favorite breakfast that we have most of the time is a protein shake

made with water, rolled oats, powdered milk, soy protein isolate, and

frozen banana. It is quick, easy, and yummy!

Hi Andrew

Hope you enjoy this group as much as I do. I've been checking out

your blog - I really like the recipe/DVD review combination. I had

no idea that the actress in Tipping the Velvet was Diana Rigg's

daughter but seeing the photo how could I have missed it...? I shall

be making your chocolate fondue very soon, in fact if the shops here

weren't closed already, I'd buy the chocolate and make it

immediately.

Hi April:

Welcome to our fun group. I'm Joanie and I live in WA State; about 150 miles

east of Mt. St. Helens volcano. Yes, when she blew her top off in 1980, we

got massive fallout. She's been unhappy ever since and is grumbling and

threatening to do it again one of these days.

April,

Welcome . Smiles and hugs to you from Colorado. I was in your beautiful

state a couple years ago and loved it.

I have such fun making the home made chocolates and they are so easy. I

usually buy the paper cups and place them inside the tiny or reg. size

muffin tin. Depending on the type of candy I am making. I melt the

chocolate chips in a double broiler . Let cool slightly, and spoon into

cups(half full). Add whatever your heart's desire to the center. I

often use peanut butter, raisins, nuts, etc. I have made peanut butter

cups that were great and chocolate covered rasins. Another favorite of

mine is to add my favorite organic Honey

Bran Squares cereal to the melted chocolate . You can add dry

ingredients such as favorite ground spices to the melted chocolate but

liguids do not work. Dipped pretzels are great..I like the salted ones

dipped in white chocolate. So easy and inexpensive compared to store

bought candy. I have not found an organic chocolate that tastes good or

doesn't cost an arm and a leg so I am still using reg. off the shelf

chips.

Makes for a special home made gift too.

Thank You for the warm welcome Deanna. I'm glad you enjoyed your

vacation to Maine. I have never been to Colorado, but I plan to. My

aunt lives in Parker.

Thanks for your advice about the chocolates. I have never added dried

spices to it but I will try some. I use regular choc. chips too. I

have made chocolates with coconut and marachino cherries. I added the

coconut to the chocolate and let it cool in the pan until I could

handle it. Then I formed a spoonful around a cherry. I made some with

Rum soaked cherries too! I love choc. covered rasins but have never

tried to make them. How do you get them to stay separate and not

bunch up?

Hi April:

I am not Deanna, however I would think you would have to dip the raisins 1 at a

time in the chocolate.

I sometimes take my pretzels and break them up, stir them into the melted

chocolate and then spoon them on to wax paper to harden.
