Guest guest Report post Posted January 21, 2004 Hi Steve, Yes, i've heard of this integration you speak of. I'm also scheduled to attend two hospitals as part of my clinical practice in Beijing next month. Perhaps you could explain what the situation is like in mainland China, as quite a few members are students expecting to go to China for training. Is there also a real scare amongst TCM students in China that TCM may disappear as you said? Guest guest Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Welcome to the list Linda! Another Texan Glad to have you aboard. Make yourself comfortable and at home! I'm glad to read that you gave yourself a chance to relax a bit and it benefited you in a noticeable way. Relaxation is an important thing! I myself am trying to figure out ways to fit it into my routine. I've lived in my new house for 4 months now and fir the FIRST time since I've been here I finally got to use my Jacuzzi bathtub over the weekend. I made a nice aromatherapy bath, and while I was in there, with everything submerged under the water except my nose, I realized just how much I need to do that more often, and how detrimental it is to not relax enough (or hardly at all, in my case). No matter how busy we are, we have to make SOME time, at least a few times a week to give the body, mind and soul a recharge! I hope you like it here! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Linda [LdyInBluJeanz1] Sunday, February 15, 2004 7:01 PM Introduction My name is Linda and I'm very new to the idea of essential oils. I've dabbled in some homemade lotion and probably have enough shea butter and cocoa butter sitting on my shelves to keep any new entrepreneur happy. However, it still lines my shelves, unused, which tells me that my interest and time has veered off the initial path quite a few times. I've been suffering from neck and upper back pain since November last year and seeing a Chiropractor about two to three times a week. They keep telling me it's my muscles that are giving me my pain as they are tense and I just need to learn to relax. This has led me to your door and the new idea of essential oils and their uses. Now this is a very new thing for me, but for the last week, I've been experimenting with Lavender and Rosemary. Wow! I cancelled my Monday appointment with the Chiropractor and have actually been an active individual for the last week. I've seen quite an improvement in the pain management end of it. I've always been an active person and find it hard to just sit around and let this thing get the best of me. I know I've got alot to learn and hope to be able to gather a lot of information from those that have been benefiting from all the great results of the EO's. Thank you for allowing me into your group. Linda Rowlett, Texas

I live on the far south coast of the east coast of Australia in a little place called Brogo with a little over 350 residents. I've been making CP castile soap for a little over six years. My partner and I run a business from our home, on a little over five acres. We have a mudbrick house and our claim is that we are Australia's first solar powered soapmaking facility. Gradually my interest has spread to all things herbal, and the use of essential oils. I use essential oils in my soaps, mainly for the aromas. Whether they add therapeutic benefits or not, we can't make any claims about using essential oils in Australia without rather expensive and time consuming procedures, and a mountain of paperwork! I recognise quite a few of the members names here already and I look forward to taking part in the discussions and broadening my knowledge in this area. This list was recommended to me by Virginia and I can already see that it has a nice balance of discussion topics. Lastly, I'm glad to see that Kathleen continues to post her famous jokes here. Kathleen, yours are some of the best I've seen and one in particular, is my most favourite ever:-))) Vicki

That little detail shouldn't be a problem for anyone, this is a very international list. :-) As for that " certain EO company " , Glad you were sceptical. I wish more people would actually think about things before they dove in with their heart leaving their brain behind them... but this is one subject that I try to avoid as much as possible... I'm a ranter and a raver and a foamer at the mouther on this topic as you no doubt know if you have been a lurker. ;-) I'm glad you decided to " out " yourself. Doing well but at this point my doctor (who really did a great job to this point) has absolutely nothing to offer to optimize the long-term healing process. At 6-8 weeks you're pronounced " healed " and " ready to go back to work " , " off restrictions " and all that, and out of the OTHER side of their mouths you hear that healing will take the better part of the next 11 months or so. I know that even though I'm doing well, my body is still going through a lot of changes and I've still got a ways to go to truely get back to " normal " (if there is such a thing!! And, I'm REALLY interested in cooking with essential oils. I've tried a little bit-- I made some GREAT tuna salad with olive oil, tarragon, oregano, basil, black pepper. And I've used some of the same for bread dips and dressings. I'm really interested to hear more ideas, recipes and experiences with this! What kind of results were you seeing? Were you able to identify any recurring pattern differentiations to the various eating disorders? Rebecca
Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Hi Rebecca, Yes, I was using principles of Chinese medicine. Mostly using acupuncture. Very few herbs because the women were taking so many meds and supplements. I also used tuning forks and pulsed colored light instead of needles for patients who were very needle-sensitive. I created kind of a sanctuary in my treatment room. Using colored lights (I had theater lights and gels -- more or less using Dinshah color therapy) and diffusing pure essential oils -- generally lavender, sometimes a blend, and playing music. I studied sound healing with tuning forks with Fabien Maman, who is both a musician and an acupuncturist and he has a CD he created using tuning forks and instruments he created. I also used cupping and guasha for back pain. And almost always used a TDP lamp. The patterns varied -- almost always a mix of excess (Liver usually, sometimes Stomach, Heart) and vacuity (Kidney, Spleen). Always Spleen vacuity, but not as a root problem. Usually as a result of the disordered eating. And always shen disturbance. Mostly I treated emotional stuff -- they almost all had histories of trauma: physical, sexual or emotional. A lot of anger, anxiety, fear, depression. Most frequent physical symptoms -- headaches, constipation, stomach pains, menstrual pain or irregularity or amenorrhea, and back/shoulder tension. I think Chinese medicine is very helpful for eating disorders, but it was frustrating at Mirasol because the women received so many different modalities I didn't get much feedback on my work with them. They had frequent neurobiofeedback, polarity therapy, hypnosis, etc. As a whole Mirasol has good results with ED but I think it's the synergy of everything that does it, and I think it's pretty impossible to know what specific modalities are most effective. Are you working with eating disorders in your practice? I'd be happy to answer any other questions.
