Thanks for your quick response. Do you recommend the MasterTong points

book by Blue Poppy. I know Dr. Tan teaches it but I have not been able

to attend as yet. I have learned some of Dr. Tan's works from

colleagues and reading his books.

Have these treatment plans worked on your patients? There are many of the

books out there that give the treatment plans, which are not working 95% of

the time. They simply listed the plans for writing their book, not for

taking care of the patients.

acupuncture Tinnitus

Thu, 01 Sep 2005 23:25:08 -0000

I was doing some research, and below are the Tx plans for Tinnitus

from:

Dr. James Tin Yau So

Dr. Li-Chun Huang

Denmei Shudo

Yan Wu

This is from the book " Treatment of Disease with Acupuncture " by

Dr. James Tin Yau So (founder of the New England School of

Acupuncture). In my opinion, everyone needs this book!

Treatment

Step One: Apply needle to GB-2, SI-19, TW-17, and GB-20

Step Two: Apply needle to TW-2 and BL-23

Step Three: Use one-quarter to one-half pieces of Chong Shu

(Atractylis Ovata), one side cut level and the other cut to a

point. Wrap the pointed end in cotton wool and put this in the

patient's ear. Burn 7-27 moxa (yellow bean size) on the flat

tip of the Chong Shu and rest the head, lying down on the side

of the head which is not being treated.

Step Four: If the condition is severe, apply 3 direct moxa (green

bean size) to BL-15, BL-23, and GB-20. Apply direct moxa to

one of these points for three to five days, then the second

point for three to five days, and finally the third, until all

three have been used.

Alternate Treatment

Step One: Apply needles to GB-2, TW-17, TW-18, TW-19, and TW-22

Step Two: Leave the needles in the points for half and hour.

As the needles are removed, some effect should be noticed.

Assistant points: GV-4, LI-5, LI-1, and ST-36

Prognosis: In mild conditions, 7 to 10 treatments are required.

In severe or chronic conditions, more than 30 treatments will be

necessary.

Note: Sometimes this is very difficult to treat. Ear acupuncture

is quite helpful, and should be considered in the treatment of

tinnitus.

This is from the book " Auricular Treatment Formulae and

Prescriptions by Dr. Li-Chun Huang. Her website is www.earmedicine.us

Main points: Internal Ear, Temple (Auditory Center) San Jiao

Supplementary points:

For " excessive " type

add: Ear Apex (Bleed several drops), GB, LV

For " deficiency " type

add: KD

This is from " Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinical Treatment

Strategies " by Denmei Shudo.

key points: TW-20 (or 1 cm anterior) and " auricular " Vertigo point

(intradermal)

additional points: KI-7, TW-3, TW-17, BL-23

This is from " Practical Therapeutics of Traditional Chinese

Medicine " by Yan Wu (Jake Fratkin, Editor - When I was talking to

Jake about reference material, he told me that every acupuncturist

should own this book).

Exuberant LV and GB Fire

Tongue: Red with yellow coating

Pulse: Rapid, wiry, forceful

Tx Plan: Clear LV and GB fire

Main Pts: TW-17, GB-2, TW-3, GB-43, LV-3, GB-40

Exteranl Wind-Heat

Tongue: Thin yellow coating

Pulse: Rapid, floating

Tx Plan: Course wind, clear heat

Main Pts: TW-17, GB-2, TW-3, GB-43, TW-5, LI-4

Binding Depression of Phlegm-Fire

Tongue: Red with yellow slimy coating

Pulse: Slippery, wiry or rapid, slippery

Tx Plan: Clear fire, transform phlegm

Main Pts: TW-17, GB-2, TW-3, GB-43, ST-40, P-8

KD-Essence Depletion

Tongue: Red with little coating

Pulse: Thready, or rapid, thready

Tx Plan: Supplement the KD, secure essence

Main Pts: TW-17, GB-2, BL-23, KD-3, CV-4, GV-4

SP and ST Qi Vacuity

Tongue: Pale with white coating

Pulse: Weak

Tx Plan: Strengthen the SP and ST, boost Qi

Main Pts: TW-17, GB-2, BL-20, BL-21, ST-36, CV-6

Alternate Therapeutic Methods

1. Ear Acupuncture

Main Pts: Subcortex, Endocrine, LV, KD, Inner Ear, Shen Men

Method: Needle to elicit a moderate sensation and retain

needles for thirty minutes. Treat once daily or once every

second day, fifteen to twenty sessions per course.

2. Scalp Acupuncture

Main Pts: Yin Ting Qi (Vertigo and Hearing Region)

Method: Retain needles for twenty minutes, manipulating

needles periodically. Treat once daily or once every second

day.

3. Tuina Self-Massage

Tuina self-massage massage is beneficial in the treatment of

tinnitus. First cover the ears with the palms of the hands

and then beat the areas over the occipital bone and mastoid

processes with the fingers. Next, rhythmically lift and

press the palms of the hands, opening and closing the

orifices of the ear. Repeat this process morning and night,

maintaining the rhythm for several minutes.

Remarks

Acupuncture has been found to be highly effective in the

treatment of neural tinnitus.

The treatment plans for Tinnitus are a compilation only, as I have

no personal experience treating Tinnitus. However, I must say that

I have had excellent results " combining " the techniques from the

books of both Dr. So and Denmei Shudo with those of Dr. Huang. In

my practice (mostly bi-syndromes), Dr. Huang's treatment techniques

work 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time, I combine the body

acupuncture treatment recommended by Dr. So with the ear acupuncture

recommended by Dr. Huang, however, other times I have combined the

treatment recommended by Denmei Shudo with the treatment recommended

by Dr. Huang and always with " excellent " results. I have only

recently acquired the book by Yan Wu, so I have no personal

experience using techniques recommended by it.

I have had very little success treating " herniated disks " . So, if

anyone knows an effective treatment for herniated disks, I would

be " extremely " grateful if you would take the time to pass it along

to me.

just seems to get progressively worse!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

She eats a nearly vegetarian diet.....organic foods.....no

dairy......some fish/chicken.......

She's about 50 years old.

You all have a great day!

Actually no and I do absolutely nothing with my ears per say. It

started on the way driving across the states last summer and the

dizziness has since never stopped. Some days are fine, other days are

ok, others are unbearable. The ringing is minimal but the dizziness

is terrible. When I clean my ears with peroxide, I get extremely

dizzy with it inside my ears. It definately gets worse when i'm in a

car but that does not bring it on so I know it's not just motion

sickness. I don't get sick to my stomach or anything. Doctor thought

maybe it is that meingers (sp?) disease and told me I should get

checked for that. I've done herbal cleanses every 2-3 months and it

doesn't seem to change it good or bad. I'm at a loss but I can tell

you this dizziness gets so very tiresome-especially if I want to

drive somewhere...:-(

I never wear headphones either. I used to get awful ear infections from the time I was a baby and have always had to have background noise myself since silence doesn’t cause me a ringing necessarily but it feels more like immense pressure building. I clean my ears with Q-tips and everything else but I always always always feel like they are full of wax deep down. so bad I don’t really hear properly from my right ear but I pass hearing tests fine. my 3 yr old has same thing and they recommended an ear wax removal kit available at any drugstore but wo knows.

Margaret,

My aunt has Menieres disease - it's an inner ear issue that causes dizziness.

I've recently had some ear pressure myself and of course, thought, oh no, now I have it, but realize that for me it's pollen related, hopefully. Just my right side feels full, I have gotten a bit dizzy as well, but it's not always there.

I looked up in my 'Encyclopedia of Natural Remedies' book and it says that an overdose of Quinine can cause hearing loss as well as large amounts of aspirin. Also mercury poisoning and nicotine.

My book also says that bugleweed equalizes circulation in the head area. Butchers Broom is supposed to improve circulatory health and garlic helps dissolve toxins.

It also says that a magnesium deficiency is seen in tinnitus sufferers.

But I also have 'Prescription for Nutritional Healing' and it says that a problem w/carbohydrate metabolism (hypoglycemia) can be a cause.

Hope this helps. I'm going to be paying attention to the carb thing myself, as I still haven't gotten off sugar.

More Karmic Questions,Why is this happening to me?What can I learn from this?Dizziness can also be caused by low pressure conditions such as fainting disorder. Which is common. Most people will faint once in their life.

It is psychological because one hears the ringing. But what causes the ringing? How does that make you feel?Nietzsche said, one can learn from illness.Infections suggest detox, drink water everyday.

Try also calming music, sitar music is considered the most relaxing music when you sleep, this may help the ringing. One seeks for a cure, but there must be no desire for a cure. What relaxes the ear? The ear is tense, it rings. Does your ear feel tense.

If you had ringing when you were a baby? Consider past lives.Karmic Contemplation:Ears may be connected to travel. I am not sure about this? So this could mean - seeing new things, or doing new things? Does this mean anything...

I read about vit. E complex a couple of years ago, so it is based on new research. But it does improve mood...On 4/19/06, Melisa <

This is news to me for I thought that you drank half your body weight in ounces. That would make more sense to me. I weigh 165 lbs, now to consume over a gallon which is 126 ounces would be more than a challange. Clay. Ps If I drink a lot of water my kidney's start to hurt.

Gabraiele,

I drink enough water during the day, I could float a boat. I have had this condition since I was a teenager and I suppose I will have it until the day I die unless the Good Lord decides to take it away. I just wish I could stop the dizzy spells that come with it.

Melisa,

Every doctor i have talked to says NOT to use Q tips..to use Hydrogen peroxide or an earwax kit...all Q-tips do is push the wax further into the ear...so, maybe try that kit and see how it goes...

Gab,

I was pretty sure you are supposed to drink half your body's weight in water....so if you weigh 150 lb, you should drink 75 ozs..etc.

i have heard that tinnitus can be caused by dehydration . the ear is one of the first placees the body takes fluids from .

you are supposed to drink your body';s weight in FL oz daily . so if you weigh 150 = 150 FL oz . if you weigh 200 = 200 fl oz .

thebook " your body's many cries for water " by bathmandelijsh [ something liek that ] will give you all kinds of info

Lets see now. A 150 lb. person would have to drink 75 lbs. of water. 1 gallon of water weighs 8 lbs. So, 75 lbs. of water is equal to 9.3 gallons of water. 1 gallon = 8 pints (16 cups). Therefore, 9.3 gallons is equal to 150 cups of water. Hmmmm, doesn't that sound a bit like drowning??????

I was the exact same way. I drink tons of water but would still remain constipated always. badly too- maybe 2 bms a week! nothing seemed to help unless I went out of my way to induce the runs big time. I would get terrible dizzy spells once I would get backed up real bad or if I had eaten dairy or any other food I was intolerant to as it needed to get out and felt like sheer poison in me until it was gone. I still have the problem and I think the ear issue is a byproduct of a different problem. the only reason it doesn’t bother me so much now is I have gotten quite regular with bms. I still have poor hearing in my right ear only though and cant tolerate total silence as I said before. wish I did know whats behind it all thoough. for me it seems very much related to the autoimmune issues I have also. and my daughter who has it too is also autoimmune. if you find out anything please let me know.

I have many memories from very early childhood that other than the fact that I can provide details no one would believe that I could remember that far back. however I don’t recall ringing. I don’t have ringing now. I have trouble hearing in one ear but pass ear tests fine. silence, like in a room when everything is turned off, such as a blackout since usually there's something running - fridge, AC etc- for me it gets loud, like being in a cave by an ocean.

I do not believe in past lives and wont go into my belief system as per code of conduct for the group but please don’t push this idea on me. it makes me uncomfortable and if you want to think that reflects on my psychological profile relating to this that’s your choice and opinion but it seems rather pompous to presume to know that much about someone over one small paragraph to think that travel or whatever would have so much effect on their ears mentally. I travel or did travel a lot and I never have problems except for when flying, same with swimming and I can assure you, I am a fish out of water. 2 really if you account for me being a Pisces but anyways its an ear problem, not a headcase problem.

I drink more than enough water, always have. I take vitamin e also. during childhood they tried everything under the sun to help chronic recurring ear infections. I got them from water, I got them from pressure (underwater, airplanes etc) I got them from headcolds- until I got older and the infections moved to my tonsils and then they moved again to sinuses as a teen and have stayed there since. still have a tendency towards ear infections but usually just have muffled hearing in the one ear and loud silence, no ringing. when I do get a ringing its only for a minute but I really don’t feel there's any relation to a deep rooted psychological or spiritual issue. this is a site for herbal remedies I thought- not metaphysics or psychology.

thanks anyways for the thought but I'm here for herbal remedies, that’s all.

B complex is good for ears, I made a mistake, not E complex. You may clean yourself by drinking water, but you can also clean the air too, because...ears are connected not just to water, but also to air.

Gabraiele,

I drink enough water during the day, I could float a boat. I have had this condition since I was a teenager and I suppose I will have it until the day I die unless the Good Lord decides to take it away. I just wish I could stop the dizzy spells that come with it.
