Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Hi Debra, I explained this a few weeks ago and don't want to bore anyone, so will keep it brief regarding my name. I chose it from the mythological Warrior Goddess of Celtic Mythology, the Morrigen; and by choosing a softer version 'Morgaina' it felt more comfortable to me. I added the 'i' to it in the legal name change,(I went through a protected identity change and had to change my identity) to ensure good health numerologically but prefer the pronunciation of Morgana for the softer sound overtones; perhaps I will truly become the Warrior Woman when I pronounce it as is. That seems to be coming to me more lately; perhaps I was only able to be Morgana, a softer version, until now...we'll see. I've been working with the image of the shape-shifting Raven Goddess lately and maybe I am being prompted from within, lol; I will add to this by saying that everyone in my psychotherapy group is working on 'authentic self'...no more role playing for anyone, so perhaps that is also working under the surface. Oh well, musing here, hope everyone is well, and Flick? New for us? I bet everyone who contacts you lately asks you that question, all the best with you and your family during this process of birth, warm wishes, Morgana - dqm51 Wednesday, May 12, 2004 10:21 AM Re: Introduction Morgana,I found your post interesting and wanted to share.I too was quite moved five years ago when I ws accidentally introduced to a vedic astrologer. She gave me a one hour reading (me not knowing anything and skeptical of astrologers as a whole) My soul was touched too at a level I can not explain. I was in awe and numb for quite a few days. Then I wanted to know HOW she did that. It was her sage advice over the next few months and the book she gave me about Vedic astrology that has led me on this course of knowledge and application. She died shortly after. But, her kindness, her patience and her belief in me. Her guidance. All she did was give me a book and let me take off and sail my own ship. Amazing. I wish she were alive today so that I could continue to communicate with her. But, I felt at the time she was like an angel who came to visit and show me the way. Our charts really have it all there within us. Don't they?! Now, to spread the word and have people realize and accept that it's (Astrology) a tool of getting in touch with self and purpose instead of looking for all the answers outside of ourselves. I aggree, Western Astrology for the psychology and personality as a whole for characterization. Vedic, for events, use of energy, spiritualty and a higher level of oneness. For me Transformation, for others, I hope to help.I love your name. Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Morgana, I thought so. I recognized it Right Away! No, I haven't read the prior post but will do so Interesting. I like Morgana. I think she can be just as much as a Warrior Goddess as Morgaina but with a feminine strength. Guest guest Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Hi Patrice I apologize for the confusion. Yes, my birth time should be calculated from 9:14am Standard time. It will put my ASC Lahari 3* Virgo. I would give Bettina's birth info and even though listed on site here - I don't have her permission to repeat it to others. Sorry. But it is there. I beleive going back last week or 5days. Guest guest Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Hi Debra, Since the lady who touched you so dearly has died, would you be willing to give us her name? Also, like Bettina, I'd like to know the name of the book she recommended. I love the name Morgana, too! Maybe because it rings mythological bells deep in my subconscious. Guest guest Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Hi Therese, Her first name was Meher. She came to this country from India in the early 80 " s. She died at the age of 62yrs old. She was raised with the Koran but found value in Vedic astrology. (against her family beliefs and values - her father was in the Indian gov council at one time) She was able to blend the two for me. The book she gave me is titled " Eastern Astrology for the Western Mind " by James Braha She encourged me to start with that book and then when I was ready to move on to other books. She said I would find my way in time, when it was right. Today, I have over 300 books in my collection. Eastern, Western, Astronomy, mythology, comparative religion, beginning of civilization history books; from aristole to Indian epic books to modern world culture. I search for the best of the best from no real knowledge. So my collection has some very good authors, and not some. Some who have psychology degrees and or religion degrees and so on. I am still adding to my Eastern collection. Moving on to more sophisticated authors from India and matheticians. I have a lot of knowledge in my library that very well could teach me everything I want to know but, I have not comprehended it all nor do books in general give one all the nuisances of explanation and idiosynchrocities one picks up and uses from contact with others. I am not in the habit of reading any one book from cover to cover. Rather, I have several books going at once as I research different things I am contemplating. Those books i study in-depth I know as familiar when I reread again. Sometimes its too much and I have to take a break for a few weeks or so from everything. However, I go back to my books and I always find something new. I think for me it comes as I unfold in understanding and things start to click. My expanded reading into the other areas I mentioned give me a better sense of understanding people, their motives and where we are today in spirituality vs where we have come from in the past. I find it helps my intergration of understanding the concepts of Vedic principals. I have a few sankrit books with english translations and it is still all greek to me. Something I need to work on So I will call my collection a good reference library. Even if I do have my favorite authors. DeFouw is one, so is Ernst Welhemn(?) another, Charack(?), Frawley, Rath etc., I guess I found myself! , Therese Hamilton <eastwest@s...> wrote: > Hi Debra, > > Since the lady who touched you so dearly has died, would you be willing to > give us her name? Guest guest Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Dear Deb ... I remember that yesterday you asked me how I first got interested in astrology. I can't find that letter (have to do some housekeeping), so I'm replying to it through this older one. It was 1967 and my first son was a baby. You know how it is with a baby, esp if you don't know anyone in town (the town being San Francisco; I'd just moved there). You spend a lot of time at home with the kid and can get a little bored. Nowadays moms are more apt to work and have their babes in daycare, but that was a different era. Some friends of my husband (now my ex) visited from the east coast and they were into astr. They had few books with them. They weren't great at it, but good enough that I could see there was something to it. After that I spent several hours a day reading and pouring over charts. Before that I thought anyone who believed it it was silly. All I'd known about was the little daily things in the newspaper. I was hooked. The first book I had was Message of the Stars by Max Heindel. He was really stuffy and old fashioned and very moralistic and absolute. I recall one thing he said though, and that was that if a woman had a Sun/Nep cnj, her husband was likely to be an alcoholic. I laughed! A few years later it became apparent that my then husband had developed a real problem in that area. That was one reason for our divorce. At about the age of 32 or 33 a met a woman who became my teacher and also a very dear friend. She was and is a Vedic astrologer. I've been using and studying Vedic ever since. I always consider myself to be a student and a learner. I don't know enough that I could consistently help people, and if you can't help people, you shouldn't charge $$$. That's my belief. I will never be a pro in this life, tho I've done a little writing. Anecdotal stuff. Astr. and poetry writhing are my two great loves. They both keep me jazzed. .... Guest guest Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I saw it and chuckled because isn't it the truth? no error or typo in reality, cheers, Morgana - Bettina Saturday, May 15, 2004 2:17 PM RE: Re: Introduction I'm glad you enjoyed it, Morgana. Sometimes that is all it takes, just a little nudge, cheers, Morgana - Bettina Saturday, May 15, 2004 10:48 AM RE: Re: Introduction Dear Deb ... They both keep me jazzed. .... That's it for a start. Welcome to the sidereal list, Ethan! This list started with the idea of popularizing western sidereal astrology, founded by Cyril Fagan. But Jyotish has made such inroads into the western astrological tradition that this list tends to be a grand mix now of Jyotish principles, controversy over the different ayanamsas which mark the sidereal zodiac, and the Fagan-Bradley school of astrology. Guest guest Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Hello Sue, Welcome to the sidereal astrology list. Although this list was meant to be limited to western sidereal astrology (which is highly mathematical and un-esoteric!), Jyotish is seeping in more and more, probably much to the despair of traditional western sidereal astrologers. So on this list we have (an unplanned) grand mixture. All the way from precise mathematical ingress charts and 'progressed lunar and solar returns' to the more esoteric such as the Jyotish lunar mansions and the mythology of the constellations. I myself am becoming more interested in the stars and constellations and how they relate to mundane and person centered astrology. (more below) At 09:12 PM 11/9/04 -0000, you wrote: >There is such emphasis put on the rising sign and decan in esoteric astrology This was the emphasis of some Tropical astrologers, and the decans are used in India, but in entirely different ways. >and >reference to the procession of the equinoxes altering calculations. Basically you have to start all over again within a new framework. Without working with actual horoscopes it's difficult to validate anything in esoteric astrology. >Too, I am curious as to whether more practitioners of sidereal astrology are >combining it with jyotish or some Vedic/western amalgam. What sort of house >systems are you using? Traditional western sidereal astrologers generally use the Campanus house system, but the emphasis is usually on the chart angles. Jyotish astrologers on this list will use sign-as-house, and I use a system which puts the equal 30 degree cusps at the center of each house. Jyotish concepts are becoming combined with traditional western sidereal techniques. How this will all end, I can't say. However, a number of sidereal astrologers on this list are staying strictly with the Fagan school of astrology without any Jyotish mixed in. Thanks for telling us about yourself, Sue. Blessings, Therese
Guest guest Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Hello Sue, I am Anne and pleased to meet you! Like you I have an interest in Jyotish and western astrology. For years I have been busy with tropical western and lately I have also been studying Jyotish and sidereal astrology. I must say that there is a lot of overlap. To tell you the truth as far as I know the difference between sidereal western astrology and the tropical geocentric method is about 23 degrees according to the correct astronomic observations. I haven't found any specific other difference, except from the fact maybe that more sideralist are interested in studying, interpreting constellations and fixed stars. But there are still a lot sideralists who don't even use those. I have made a file here with some links to sidereal astrology sites: Among these I have mentioned an interesting thesis about polyzodiacal astrology. it is quite complicated but unfortunately nobody here has read it. Kind regards, Anne - westminstersue Tuesday, November 09, 2004 10:12 PM Introduction Greetings. I accidentally sent this to the moderator first then had my forward returned since the host " .com does not exist " . I just joined this group to find out more about sidereal astrology. Although not a practitioner, I have been interested in astrology, particularly esoteric astrology since about 1980. I have amassed a fair number of books from noted astrological authors including early practitioners like Alan Leo and ME Jones to latter day such as R. Hand combined with Esoteric Astrology. I am generally rather discriminative about what I will pick up these days. There is such emphasis put on the rising sign and decan in esoteric astrology and reference to the procession of the equinoxes altering calculations. I do find my self wondering how to validate the changes in planetary signs and house placements with most interpretive material and how to " validate " /rectify findings. Too, I am curious as to whether more practitioners of sidereal astrology are combining it with jyotish or some Vedic/western amalgam. What sort of house systems are you using? My astrology studies are mostly meditative in nature and utilized to hopefully understand myself and my family or dear friends who ask. Now and then, I am quite intuitionally inspired, but I find that my motivation runs in cycles. I HAVE to put it away until I am moved again to take it up. So, hello.
