suchandra
The Ornaments of a Sadhu by Kaustubha das http://www.bhakticollective.com/ titikshavah karunikah suhridah sarva-dehinam ajata-satravah santah sadhavah sadhu-bhushanah The symptoms of a sadhu are that he is tolerant, merciful and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures, and all his characteristics are sublime. (The Vishnu avatar Kapiladeva to his mother Devahuti, Srimad-bhagavatam 3.25.21) There is an apparent irony in the term sadhu-bhushana, (sadhu-ornaments). The stereotypical image of a sadhu is that of an ochre-clad, long bearded, Hindu ascetic who sheds all ornaments save for a string of beads and a mark of sacred clay. indulekhadasi
Yeah you would never guess Pundarika Vidyanidhi was a sadhu. Even Gadadhara was confused as to why he dressed in costly garments and lived like a king. But when he saw Pundarika Vidyanidhi go into ecstacy by hearing the name of Krishna, Gadadhara Pandita realized his mistake and took shelter of Pundarika as his spiritual master. In Krishna's lila: Gadadhara Pandita- Radharani Pundarika Vidyanidhi- Vrsabhanu How befitting!

Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī and Pundarīka Vidyānidhi had a friendly, intimate relationship, and as far as discussing topics about Krishna, they were situated on the same platform. When Pundarīka Vidyānidhi saw that Lord Jagannātha was given a starched garment, he became a little hateful. In this way his mind was polluted. That night the brothers Lord Jagannātha and Balarāma came to Pundarīka Vidyānidhi and, smiling, began to slap him. Although his cheeks were swollen from the slapping, Pundarīka Vidyānidhi was very happy within. This incident has been elaborately described by Thākura Vrindāvana dāsa.
