I do not eat meat at all.

I gave up all meats but chicken until a month ago.

 

I don't eat eggs, I don't eat chocolate (only because I have a mild allergy to chocolate.. so it doesn't matter if the dietary law has changed or notm I won't eat it anyway).

 

And I also don't drink milk.

 

But is cheese okay?

I really love cheese (love love love!).. but if it's not okay to eat cheese, I will happily give that up, too.

Yes, cheese is fine. But! Check to see if it includes rennet. Most rennet is made from animals, you'll want to be taking planet rennet or natural rennet. If it just says rennet, it's probably from animals.

 

In New Zealand, almost all cheese is animal rennet, and they have specific vegerterian cheese which the devotees here buy.

Actually as far as I know, there cannot be cheese without rennet.

 

Rather what they do is they use syntheitic rennet, which qualifies as vegetarian. But from what I hear, even this synthetic rennet still contains some miniscule portion of animal rennet which was originally used to synthesize this vegetarian rennet. If this is true, then vegetarian rennet is not 100% vegetarian.

 

The more orthodox Brahmanas of India do not eat cheese for this reason, even if it claims vegetarian rennet.

Aside from rennet in cheese, there are many other things that vegetarians should watch for (Stabilizers, Emulsifier, Colours, Flavourings, etc...)

Below is a rough indication of ingredients that vegetarians should be careful of. Also if one is not sure about a specific ingredient, simply give the company a phone call. Nowadays, many products offer a customer service line free of charge (Make full use of it)

It does happen that the person at the other end arent sure about the ingredients you are enquiring about. In that case simply avoid the product.

These additives are very unlikely to originate from animals as they are normally derived from various types of fruit. It may still be worth checking with manufactures as to the exact origins of the ingredients which make up these Emulsifiers and stabilisers.
