I have received a letter from a man from Kovur Village in Tamil Nadu by the name of E. Esuraj. He is a follower of the Lord Guru Sree Raghavendra Swamy. Can you please tell me how to pronounce these words? Also anything you can tell me about his village?

This is how you pronounce the names. Esuraj is pronouced like this- the letter "A" and then sooraaj. Raghavendra is pronounced Raagh then uhv then the letter "A" then ndra. Swamy is the same as Swami. It is prounounced like this Swaamee.

I know this village is in Andhra Pradesh state of India. This is also the place where the Mahabharat (the great epic of India) was translated into Telegu by Mr. Thikkana.

Traderjoes is in many larger cities. They have many cheeses without rennet.

    http://www.traderjoes.com/Attachments/rennet_test.pdf

    http://www.traderjoes.com/locations.asp :)

That is where I get my cheese from. But my the closest trader joes is quite far, thats why I was complaining. If I was in Kolkata with my grandparents, all I would have to do was walk for five min, go into the local store and get tons of Amul products!

But I guess I should quit complaining. Some people may not even have a Trader Joes in their state.

    Jai Nitai!

  3.

Amul is safe! OK (O KRSNA):)

I know how you feel. RELIEF! Amul is so widely available in India but unfortunately it is even harder to get cheeses and other dairy products without animal rennet here in America. You have to be so careful here.

I don't know why companies have to put those stuff. I have heard Amul products taste so much better (probably because they are purer).

    Jai Nitai!

  4. Yes, I just came back from India and in Varsana someone grabbed my mom's hand and forcibely put mehndi on it. And then asked for money! It was only 10 rupees or something but it was still frustrating! And I went on a doli in Varsana and the doli walas were like, "Tell your dad when he comes to give us 200 rupees each. We are Varsana vasis you will get a lot of punya for doing this." And I was thinking well yeah I know you are Varsana vasis and therefore you are probably much greater than me but 400 rupees (two people were carrying me) is too much! I mean I am really lightweight you guys deseve 50 each maximum. So people will do anything in the Lord's name to get themselves the money, but this is not pure bhakti. You should give as much to the deities as you want, they should not dictate how much you must give.

  5. If any of you have been to Ekachakra dhama please share your experiences here. I would be very happy to read about other people's experiences. And even if you have never been there please say something! Like about Nityananda prabhu or something, anything. There are hundreds of threads on the jiva issue and if you want to know my opinion, these threads are quite dry to say the least. This is because the topic is not pure krishna katha. More often than not there is tons of Vaishnava aparadha on these threads as well. Why not talk about Lord Nityananda who is the embodiment of sweetness instead?

    Jai Nitai!

  6. Hare Krishna. Jai Nitai!

After many years of wishing to go to Ekachakra dhama I was finally able to go this year. I have written my realizations on the following website:

    http://www.geocities.com/ekachakradhama/info.html

I would greatly appreciate it if you would read it and give me your comments. I have very neophyte realizations but hopefully you might get something out of it by reading this.

Thank you very much. Hare Krishna.

    Your servant eternally,

    indulekhadasi

Very well said. That was indeed the prayer of one of the 12 Mahajans - Prahlada Maharaja, when he said:

    Naivodvije Para Duratyaya Vaitaranyas

Tvad Virya Gaayana Mahaamrta Magna Chittah

    Shoche Tato Vimukha Chetasa Indriyaartha

    Maayaa Sukhaaya Bharam Udvahato Vimudhaan

"O best of the great personalities, I am not at all afraid of material

existence, for wherever I stay I am fully absorbed in thoughts of Your

glories and activities. My concern is only for the fools and rascals

who are making elaborate plans for material happiness and maintaining

their families, societies and countries. I am simply concerned with

love for them." - SB 7.9.43

Wow that was exactly in my mind when I wrote my post!

By the way, there are multiple opinions on various other issues which Bhaktivedanta Swami gave, and which I dare you to quote on Audarya; remember his citations of Pandit Chanakya on women being unintelligent and untrustworthy, having brains half the size of those of men.

I being a girl have seen with my own experience how untrustworthy and unintelligent women are. And I don't doubt that my brain is half the size of that of a man. But Srila Prabhupada himself said that these things don't apply to Vaishnavis. I am far from being a Vaishnavi so these things do apply to me, I will openly admit that I am probably an untrustworthy person and I am definitely unintelligent.

    Hare Krishna.

P.S- I do not have a low self esteem and I am not humble. Whatever I wrote above is true.

  9.

Yes, what you say makes good sense.

It's a pity that the person who started this thread has not appeared again.

If possible, give me a list of all the 10 vasanas.

In case you forgot, this is the darkest part of Kaliyuga, so Kali is impersonating all evil, and prevails everywhere (even in this forum).

The 4 regulative principles are meant for avoiding strengthening Kali.

When people strengthen Kali, Kr,s,na cannot weaken it.

To pray to Raama, Kr,s,na, that is prayer with selfishness, we pray to live well or go to the spiritual abode. So i m thinking that the Saawitrii Gaayatrii is best of all, because it prays for US, not for MYSELF. It is a prayer for all creatures, and they say it brings the end of Kaliyuga.

Remember what Shiva says to Kr,s,na:

    "Dharma is your heart".

If we pray to Krishna or Rama to deliver all creatures in the world that would not be selfishness. Actually Vaishnavas should not pray to go to the spiritual world. We pray that in whatever womb we may be born in in our next life, we should not forget the lotus feet of Rama or Krishna and we should engage in serving the Vaishnavas.

Can You Please list those ghee brands using animal fat , so to avoid them, I used ISKCON ghee and it tasted fantastic, perhaps my taste buds were used to the adulterated ones.I could safely use the ISKCON or the ASARAM Bapu brands, being safe , but they are costly. Can I use Amul? Pls advice, being a Vaishnav, I have to know, which ones are pure.

Amul is safe. I would stick to Amul. Amul states that they don't add such things. I hope they are sticking up to this standard and will in the future.

  11.

    Hmmmm....

Is that any worse than the Bharata-natyam dancing that has been sponsored by many ISKCON temples for many years?

Did Srila Prabhupada ever approve of Bharata-natyam dancers in ISKCON temples?

I don't know the answer to that.

I read this from a book called 'Srila Prabhupada is Coming" by Mahamaya dd. She said that bharata natyam dances were being performed while Srila Prabhupada was in their presence (I forgot exactly where this was). Srila Prabhupada didn't object, he didn't say anything. And in London in 1977 I read he saw a bharata natyam dance in the temple and he enjoyed it. So I really don't know if this answers your question, but hopefully we have some idea now.

Personally I would prefer that bharatanatyam dancers should be younger than 15, and should be performing something on the pastimes of Krishna. Srila Prabhupada himself said that bharatanatyam was a perfect sign of pure indian culture (I am not saying he allowed it in temples). I don't think kids should be banned from doing bharatanatyam. I have done it many times in the temple but since I am a kid I don't think it is a big offense. Rather I think of it as an offering to Krishna. If any of you can please point out where Prabhupada said that we are not allowed to then I will stop. But so far it seems that Prabhupada didn't mind. Of course I cannot judge-this is my own realization, which could very well be faulty.

    Thank you. Hare Krishna.

  12.

For nama smarana, there is no problem,.... you can chant anywhere, even in toilet, as the other person said, only during meditation and sadhana, dhaarana, samadhi, during these states, you need to be as clean as possible and maintain a clean atmosphere..

Yes, that is why bhakti yoga is the easiest and most efficient process. Astanga yoga is good too, but it is much harder. Nevertheless some people decide to go for yogic processes such as Astanga yoga but that is fine with me. As long as the processes that people follow are in accordance with Bhagavad Gita then I have no problem.

  13. I recall reading in I think the Transcendental Diaries where Prabhupada was saying the moon adventure was definitely fake. He said, "When the sastras say that the moon is a very nice and oppulent place it is the place of Chandradeva then why should I believe that on the moon there is simply sand and dust?"

I have to say I agree with him but I still can't figure out how they managed to do such a pretentious adventure. And where did they go to film the "moon"? That is beyond me.

  14. I know I am interrupting the conversation here but I just wanted to say haribol here. I am in Mayapur on a really slow computer but I just wanted to say I have finally fulfilled my dream of having darsan of Ekachakrapura where I went yesterday. It was amazing. I would tell you more about it but I have a time limit here. So I will tell you more when I come back. And oh yeah, Theist prabhuji we got Uddhava Gita in Vrindavana a week ago. Hare Krishna!

  15.

Thanks. But I was talking about the Ram-Ravan war in which Indrajit goes into hiding and showers various lethal weapons on Ram and Laxman. The arrows shot by him turn into snakes and these snakes cover the bodies of Ram and Laxman completely.

He wanted to show the greatness of his devotee Garuda who then came to the rescue!

  16.

Indulekha Dasi makes very good arguments for Lord Krishna. But, Lord Shiva, sex-driven? What do you mean? He's married to Parvati! He's never cheated on Her or anything like that! There's a parable about Him falling in love with Mohini, but I think that it's obviously only symbolic of Krishna's great power of Maya over all creatures, even the devas, and meant to show His supremacy.

Other than that, I really don't understand why you would even post in a discussion on Hinduism, esp. a discussion on Krishna, if all you have to say is blasphemy (even if you don't believe in Krishna, it's still blasphemy to His followers!). Oh, and Lord RamaChandra and Mother SitaDevi never ate meat in the forest ->> http://www.hindunet.com/forum/showflat.php?Number=9851

Perhaps this fellow doesn't even know that Lord Shiva had actually conquered Kamadeva. Maybe he just needs to do some research. It may not be his fault it may be the fault of his ignorance.

    Radhe Radhe, IndulekhaDasi :D!

I think it's so cute that She's a snake charmer! xD I love reading about the Gopikas! They're all so cute and sweet, and Indulekha Devi is absolutely beautiful! I think it's wonderful that you have a picture of Her to put up! I'm sure Mother Saraswati doesn't mind! BTW, thanks for the info on Saraswati being Lord Vishnu's consort, I never knew that! Did you ever read about the joint-temple of Saraswati and Brahma? I guess that when Brahma kinda went under in importance, and Saraswati rose to prominence, the priests of Saraswati formed their own temple (hundreds of years ago). Well, just recently, the priests of Lord Brahma sued the temple of Saraswati saying that they should have to pay them b/c Saraswati and Brahma got divorced and She should have to pay Him spousal support xD I couldn't believe that they actually took that to court! Thankfully, they didn't win! I forget where I read it, but I think that story is just absolutely hilarious!

    That is funny.

Suddha Saraswati is the wife of Vishnu but she has an expansion also called Saraswati who is Brahma's wife.

  18.

The point I'm trying to make is that Hindus are saying that India is the ONLY holy land on Earth. I'm not denying that India is holy, I'm just saying that India isn't the ONLY holy land (for the umpteenth time). Why is India holy but my land isn't? I'm a Hindu, also, correct? And I pray in my own home.

But what does land have to do with anything? If I pray here or there, does it really matter? Every atom has the Supreme residing in it, and the same for every soul. Since this makes every atom and soul a Divine Abode for the Divine Brahma-Shakti, then this makes every atom and soul sacred and holy, and not just the atoms that make up the land called "India".

Only after learning about the philosophy of others' from their perspective can a man truly say that he follows Sanatana Dharma.

You are right here, this was my point. Wherever there is prayer that place automatically becomes holy.

  19.

If Rama knew sonic archery, then why did he not attack Indrajit when Indrajit became invisible?

Sometimes when the Lord fights with the demons he lets the demons gain the upper hand for a while to show that even if the demon is very powerful he will lose the war due to his false pride. Eg. (Krishna and Jarasandha)

Sorry, that is the only explaination I can give. I have a very limited intelligence.
