You are very welcome. I'm always glad to share whatever knowlege I have.

I love all the faces of God, but I think the Shiva tradition is particularly rich. I also am drawn to his sons Ganesha and Kumara (which I see as aspects of Him).

That picture is from my freind who lives in Goa. It looks even biger in the photos with people standing in front.

    Thank You for you generosity.:)

I would like to visit that statue in Goa someday.

  2. I see her as the earth mother Goddess. I see her as the Goddess of virtue and the wife of Shiva. She is the mother of Ganesh the wise and all knowing.

Somehow though I feel I am not coming close to her real meaning.

With that been said what do you feel of the divine Goddess and her role as a divinity?

    What is her meaning?

    Om Namah Shivaya :)

    Jai Ganesh

It is not as if after many many births we automatically get released from this condition. we are traped here by maya due to our desires. As long as we have desires and envy in us there is no chance for libration.

the release is not a form of after life, but it is our original state and that is full of bliss.

    Jai Shree Krishna

Thank You for your reply. :)

Is this bliss eternal of all eternity when it comes? Are we aware?

To me the afterlife is eternal happiness and bliss this is why I bring it up.

    What do you think?

Most festivals and holidays go on a lunar calander so they won't fall on the same day of the gregorian callender every year. Shivaratri (a.k.a. Mahashivaratri) was almost exactly a month ago this year (Feb. 26). It falls on the 13th day of the dark half of Phalgun (February-March).The name means "the night of Shiva". There is some celebration during the day but mainly it is observed at night on until daylight the next day. Arudra Darshan I know falls around the end of December, but I'm not shure where in the lunar cycle it's supposed to be.

I will probally have to do some adaptation over here with the calendars we use but it is the worship and prayer that is important.:)

    Thank you for your help.

    Dear Apep,

The foremost important texts are the - Shiva Gita that is part of the Padma Purana. It is a qustion answer between Lord Sadashiva and Rama. And is similar to bhagwat Gita in its essence. Rama asks and Shiva answers. And at the end Lord Shiva shows Rama his eternal universal form where Rama sees all the universe and even the ten avatars of Vishnu including the Krishna avatara and his killing of Kamsa and the leelas. Rama aknowledges that Shiva is the base of the whole universe and everything emanates from him and submerges in him. And that he is the controller of all the three gunas of the nature, but is above them. Some one who reads Shiva Gita with devotion and understanding sees his spiritual life rocket shooting upwards. :)

Shiva Samhita is an important text on higher Yoga as given to Parvati Devi by Shiva himself. This is a very important text.

And of course, the Shiva Mahapurana!! That states the appearing of the fire Shiva linga whose beginning or end is not known to Vishnu (Krishna) and Brahma. Here Shiva reveals his true form as the Adi Mahadev - The supreme Lord - one who has not beginning and no end. He is eternal.

And then you can also look for Rudrayamal Tantra.

These should be more than enough to start with.

Later you may want to research into Kriyouddisha tantra which is a very rare tantra doctrine given by the Lord.

    Shivohi Kevalam!! Om Namah Shivaaya!!

Can any of these texts be found on the internet? My funds are a bit small these days. I am especially interested in the ShivaGita for it seems filled with knowledge.

Thank You again.:) You seem very wise in many issues for I have seen you on other threads.

    Om Namah Shivaya :)

Haribol. Dunno bvout hindus, but I respect and honor "REAL" shamans. I consider such folks as spiritually enlightened ones, of many stages of advancement, up to and including one who is fully Krsna Conscious.

I use the word shaman as I use the word Guru, meaning one of three types, one who introduces another to spiritual insight and the concept of spiritual life as ones priority, one who carefully guides another in such a spiritual endeavor, and one who actually gives full spiritual life to another.

But there are limitations of language, just as many use the word guru to mean all sorts of folks who actually move away from actual spiritual life, there are many who use the word shaman in the same way.

I honor those considered shamans, like the late Peter Tosh. I consider the late great emporor Heile Salaise, direct descendent from Solomon and Mekeda, a shaman. Others as well, to numerous to name. But the ones I honor all accept their actual position as servants of the Supreme Lord. Those who claim to be supreme, I ignore, and actually debate (rail) against.

    Hare Krsna, ys, mahaksadasa

    Noble response. :)

I consider myself a shaman of Shiva. This is why I ask such things.

I don't consider myself a master. I just consider myself a devotee and servant of Shiva.

I am knowledgable on the murders of those considered withcheas in Salem Massechusetts in 1692. They were actually very high ladies whose crime was being exposed to moldy rye bread, which produced an accidental euphoria (dementia of LSD). The demons who slaughtered, cotton mather et al, were fanatic puritans without spiritual attribute of compassion and believed in the anti-christ, that their god was under pressure from the devil.

I also know of the lie of St Patrick, that the snakes he removed from Ireland were not serpants, but Druids (wiccans). Another anti-christian genocide of innocent pantheists (those who worship God in his creation).

There are, indeed, withces. They live on the blood of infants (putanas) and use mantras to make sticks (brooms) to fly. Amerikkka is full of them, they are known as those who use abortion as routine birth control.

Oh no, im sorry. Please, not abotion topic here, okay. Even though it is real witches who do this.

    haribol, ys, mahaksadasa

better get off the net, shamans and witches may give my friends the wrong impression. I even accept Santaria as a good religion. Just call me Jimidas today, cauise im a voodoo chile.

What I am talking about is stories of Indian women being burned alive as witches. I was wondering why such terrible things occurred.

:) "It is said that even one drop of happiness in Krsna consciousness stands beyond comparison with an ocean of happiness derived from any other activity.

Thus, any person who has developed even a little quantity of pure devotional service can very easily kick out all the other kinds of happiness derived from religiousness, economic development, sense gratification and liberation."

    (Nectar of Devotion, Chapter 1)

There are times when I meditate in the woods that I feel so happy and calm I know in my heart this is the greatest feeling I shall ever feel.

To me this is the greatest self gratification any human being can have. :)

  9. The real wealth is the dharma followed by the divine. When one gathers money and all the jewels of this life it seems sweet like a good wine.

However when one dies and transcends he can not take this wealth with him. The wealth turns into dust like all earthly things in a period of time. All worldly things eventually turn into oblivion

The true wealth is the dharma and divine for these things you can take with you in death. When your soul transcends it will shine like the sun with the gifts of dharma and divinity.

    Om Namah Shivaya:)

    Jai Ganesh

Personally I feel sorry for those poor animals that has to needlessly suffer due to man ignorance and cruelty.

I wonder how many would actually kill to satisfy their tongue?

I also feel sorry for those who eat it, because we do not know what awaits us, Karma does not spare anyone, if only we understood this simple law we would not do half the things that we do to try and enjoy in our miserable condition of existence.

But it is heartening to know that the forum like this can change peoples mind even if in a small way.

Your promise of giving up is a big step in right direction.

Focus your mind on Lord Shiva he is asutosh very easily pleased

    Om namha Shivaya.

    Jai Shree Krishna

    Thank You.:)

    Om Namha Shivaya.

Holikotsava is also known more commonly as Holi. Unfortunately it isn't much of a religious festival anymore, though it is probably one of the biggest festivals of the year in India.

Today it is mostly just people throwing color on each other with no idea of the religious significance of the day. It's more of a social festival.

I see. In old times then was Shiva celebrated for this?

  12.

I used to live around 5 miles from their ashram on Kauai and I went there a few times during their public worship and lecture. They are similar to Advaitins in that they believe that the goal of their practice is to merge into Shiva and become Shiva, Shiva being God in their philosophy.

Yes I have heard of them and I am quite interested in them. Do you know if any sects are still in India as well?

Also I do not understand becoming a Lord like the mighty Shiva. I am happy enough to just remain mortal.

  13.

    Om Namah shivay!!

Yes, in principle, that is the whole idea. Rest is technical. But in essence, this is important.

Some sects have the agenda to put other names down to perch themselves higher etc. So we have to vociforate. Hindus don't care who you pray to. Krishna or Shiva. As long as you are moving towards divinity, peace and realizing your higher self. Or as long as you are in devotional progression towards your divine deity / divinity / realization. But Yes divine names of the lord liberate - when meditated upon with devotion, faith, concentration and understanding. And trivialities of names are not a reason for argument really.

    Om Samb Sadaashivaay namah!!

    Om Namah Shivay. :)

I agree with you we must all come up with this conclusion.
