  1. "I am sure Jayadvaita Swami is making some useful corrections, but the place for those corrections is in a footnote." Yes it would be so nice if the corrections could be in footnote form. Even on a different level than having access to the real nectar, as you express you prefer the originals; it would also have many other benefits if footnotes were implemented. Eg. an oppurtunity to study the books more, appeal to scholars who may not be vaisnava's, and I am sure there may be many other reasons beneficial for preaching. I was thinking yesterday that Iskcon scholars oneday could even write seperate books with purports based on BG as it is. Just as Prabhupada based his Gita from the previous acarya's. What a wonderful way that would be to glorify Srila Prabhupada.
  2. Thanks for the reminder that there is need for balance. It is surely a big responsibilty Jayadwaita has been given. Today I did a reading of Prabhupada's purport to SB 1.5.11. He also had a huge task of translating all these scriptures in english. Some of his mood is expressed in this purport. It is definately worth a re-read if anyone has not read it in a while.
  3. The following verse, even though not directly related to the capital letters subject or changes to SP's books, has been helpful for me to keep focus on how to approach the conversations on the two current threads. As I only have the current BBT versions of Prabhupada's books, and to be honest find them very nice, I will reflect on this verse....in case any of Prabhupada's words are subtly changed due to editing in the latest versions. SB 1.5.11 from Sri Sri Prapanna-jivanamritam 1.6 by HH BR Sridhar Swami. "Even if every stanza is imperfectly composed, that is, unlucidly expressed, the sins of the people are totally vanquished by those expressions or books in which the holy names of the Infinite Supreme Lord are described - since the pure devotees hear those holy names (from a qualified preacher), they solitarily sing those holy names (even in the absence of others), and they chant the unending glories of those holy names (in the presence of a deserving listener)." Maybe if I can hold this verse in my heart and Srila Prabhupada's words from the previous link also; just maybe in some thousand or so years from now when I am still roaming this planet I maybe able to extract the essence of love of Krsna from whatever remants of scripture I have acces to at that time.
  4. The above post about dairy farming was by me. Once again I forgot to log on. Still learning how to work these computers, sorry about that.
  5. I am much refreshed and very grateful for the above post and these words of Srila Prabhupada and his discussion on SB 1.5.11. Hypothetically speaking, if my Gurudeva was very simple and not so scholarly in his approach, but his love for GaurangaKrsna was very sweet and pure, this substance of sweetness and love would be deep within his writings. Even if there were "socalled" imperfections in the actual written words, this sweet substance would still be there for the taking. It is such a peaceful feeling when one's heart sings to these sweet things. As kali yuga increases, I hope to become capable of tasting such sweetness and to be saved from so much mental confusion which I so often create for myself.
  6. "Actually what Jayadvaita Swami has done is completely change the meaning of the sentence. Prabhupada is speaking about utilizing fruitive results, whereas Jayadvaita Swami is speaking about developing nonattachment. They are two completely different subjects. "Working with the fruitive," (positively engaging results in Krishna's service) is yukta-vairagya, whereas Jayadvaita Swami is speaking about working without attachement which is nishkama-karma." Quoted fron jn dasa's prevous post in this link. I tend to agree with this understanding, and how subtle changes can change the whole context. Also, after the word "fruitive" is, used the purport goes on to say ,"fruitive result being situated on fixed up conclusion of the real self." So being fixed upon the real self there would not be possibility of the word fruitive referring to an enjoying/gratification context. Anyway, I am getting way out of my league here, but at the same time am grateful for this learning oppurtunity.
  7. Quite possible gHari, but at the same time, can karma yoga be integrated with bhakti, even if this is not pure bhakti. Is it possible that Srila Prabhupada was referring to this in this instance?
  8. Surely it is a huge responsibility that the editors have. And who am I to say if their decisions are right or wrong. Possibly in their editorial meetings they may have discussed similar things we are discussing now. Obiesances to them.
  9. Yes, point taken. The original verse clearly points to the process of karma yoga. Therefore the question arises, was there necessity to edit this verse at all.
  10. signed petition yesterday.
  11. Thank you Beggar for enlightening my understanding with this clear reply. I was viewing a documentary on the insect kingdom in this material world recently and it made me start thinking how truly complete is Krsna and how complete is all that eminates from him. I thought, if such perfection is here just imagine how wonderful must be Goloka Vrindavan and the spiritual world. Your reply has kindled this remeberance of Krsna's beautiful pastimes in the spiritual world.
  12. It is interesting to read the above quotes to the changes that Jayadvaita Swami has made. I consider myself a beginner in this bhakti yoga process, but I am beginning to realise on an internal level, what a treasure Srila Prabhupada is. Understanding that his vani is nondifferent from him, I think it is sad, that due to such changes, I may infact not be able to relish deeply Prabhupada's "pure" vani. Even as in the above case it is claimed that the changes were made due to editorial mistakes, I would prefer the original, and let the vani and Supersoul reveal the inner meaning to the verse. This is a simple joy of the process of self realisation. If the changes are actually made due to institutional considerations, then possibly the institution is becoming an idol rather than the vehicle that spreads the message of a pure devotee such as Srila Prabhupada.
  13. In the above quote regarding Krsna's mausala-lila Srila Prabhupada says regarding these pastimes, "they are false in the sense that these pastimes are not eternal, nor are they transcendental or spiritual". I have not read this before. Could someone please clarify how some of Krsna's pastimes are not eternal or spiritual.
