  4. ISKCON World Review -- Vol. 14 No. 2 -- July/August 1995 -- VRINDAVANA, India -- By Prithu dasa Nama Hatta Prabhu, one of the greatest devotee book distributors of all times, passed away in Vrindavana on April 17. We felt honored and pleased to be able to help in the departure of this great soul. He was in our loving care for the last 10 days of his life here and was completely peaceful and happy to leave. When he came to our ashram, he used to sit in the morning sun under the great Bakul tree in front of our house. Although his body weakened, Nama Hatta remained calm and happy with his fate and always told us that he was only too willing to go. We placed beautiful three-foot-high Deities in his room. "Sree Gaura-Nitai," as he used to say in his Italian tongue, talking at times of Their mercy and grace. Two days before he departed this world, we found him sitting on his bed with his legs dangling down. He appeared unconscious, and we grabbed hold of him before he could fall to the ground. Nama Hatta lifted his head and stared upward as if seeing something wonderful, his eyes wide open. He lifted up his head more and more and reached upwards with his hands. Then he dropped unconscious and he told us later that he saw something "miraculoso." Puri Maharaja called from Mayapur to speak with Nama Hatta, his disciple. The telephone was 50 yards away and we tried to record some last message from his Guru Maharaja. Just when Puri Maharaja was saying, "Nama Hatta Prabhu, just leave," in the other room, Nama Hatta stretched his body and opened his eyes wide. His face was completely in awe. Then he relaxed and breathed out his life, leaving his mouth open. Just then, Rukmimi Ramana arrived from next door and put a Tulasi leaf in his wide open mouth, not realizing what went on. His expresion was exceptional, with his eyes wide open in wonder, and garlands framing his face. Chaos broke out with all the red tape and struggle for government permissions; after all, the sun was sinking and we wanted to cremate the body before the night set in. The doctor arrived and signed the death certificate. The embassy faxed the consents. The government agreed to the cremation. All these things are not easy to achieve in India in such a short time. Finally, with about 100 chanting devotees, we carried his body to the Krishna Balarama Mandir to circumambulate the temple where a large crowd had gathered to see the procession. We continued walking to Vrindavana town. People came out of their houses. Passers-by stopped and bowed down to offer their respects. Passing Banka Bihari Temple, the flower sellers showered Nama Hatta's body with petals. The pyre was ready when we arrived at the bank of the Yamuna River where we washed the emaciated body. Setting the pyre alight, a great wind suddenly arose and turned it into a blaze, quickly consuming the body. We all chanted Hare Krishna and were amazed. No one spoke much when we left the place by 8:30 that night. A huge thunderstorm rose and the whole sky became illuminated. We were still in the Yamuna, bathing, when a heavy rain started pouring down on Vrindavana, an unusual event for this time of the year. We concluded that this was indeed a worthy soldier of Lord Chaitanya who was called home by His Lord. Following the perfect example set by Srila Prabhupada, many devotees have come to Vrindavana seeking shelter of the holy dhama at the time of passing. In the future we can expect many more. -- Right: The Vrindavana Hospice, shown in this drawing, will serve devotees at the end of their lifetime. -- Currently, however, there is little facility for an ISKCON devotee to leave his body here in Vrindavana. Bhaktivedanta Fellowship is an attempt to solve this problem. We decided to create a non-profit charity which we registered as The Bhaktivedanta Fellowship, aiming to take care of devotees during their last days. The goal of the fellowship is to guarantee all ISKCON devotees an opportunity to die in peace without any financial worries. The plan is to build a block of 12 apartments, on already acquired land situated just five minutes walk from the ISKCON temple. Each apartment will have a bedroom with two beds, a study, kitchen, and bathroom with hot water. One of the apartments will be used by a doctor. We have drawn plans for the project and obtained government permission. What remains is to raise the funds to build and maintain the project. We need help to complete this project. Contributors may think of it as an investment into their own peaceful passing. Interested readers may make tax deductible donations from the USA. Please make your check payable to Bhaktivedanta Fellowship, c/o Rohini Kumar dasa, 2334 Stuart St., Berkeley, CA 94705.

  6. Today is the six month anniversary of the tragic September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC last year. It seems an appropriate moment to reflect on the cause of this terrible attack on America. Here in the United States there is a feeling that America is a peaceful God-loving country and this attack on America was completely unjust an unwarranted. It does appear to be a completely barbarous massacre of innocent peoples’ lives. However, if we look at it from the perspective of the Vedas, India’s ancient books of knowledge, we have to accept that there must be some cause for this terrible attack on America. (Article by Madhudvisa dasa) Every action has a cause. Nothing happens by chance. In the Sanskrit language, the language the Vedas are written in, there is no word meaning “chance.” The concept of “chance” does not exist. Where we would us the word “chance” the Vedas use a word meaning “the cause is unknown.” In this world everything is going on under the powerful force of the laws of Karma. Karma means action and reaction. When we do something it will generate a reaction in the future. So when something happens to us we have to see the laws of Karma working. If something bad is happening to us we must know that we have done something bad to others in the past and this is the reaction. One could say the cause of the September 11 attacks on America was the fundamentalist Muslims who planned the operation and hijacked the planes. This is the position taken by George Bush, the President of the United States of America. He has put all blame on terrorist groups who have some issue against America. And he has vowed to rid the world of any group of people who have an issue against America and the American way of life. On one level this is true and it is certainly the duty of the President of the United States to protect the citizens of his country from the attacks of the envious miscreants. “Dishonest miscreants flourish because of cowardly and impotent executive heads of state. But when the executive heads are strong enough to curb all sorts of dishonest miscreants, in any part of the state, certainly they cannot flourish. When the miscreants are punished in an exemplary manner, automatically all good fortune follows.” So there is no doubt that a strong executive head is required and he must rid the world of envious miscreants who want to terrorize the population of the world. In this respect President George Bush is setting the perfect example. However, we know from the Vedas that every action has an apparent cause and a remote cause. We see the attack on America was from a group of fundamentalist Muslims but the attack could only have been possible if there was some fault on the part of America. Even in the Bible we find it stated that “what you sow so shall you reap.” So we get the reactions of the actions we perform. One may wonder what wrong could the United States of America have done? We can turn to the Vedas for some inspiration on this point. “The principal sign of the age of Kali is that unqualified men without spiritual knowledge will be dressed like administrators or kings, and the principal business of such rulers will be to kill the innocent animals, especially the cows and the bulls, who shall be unprotected by their masters, the mercantile community. In the Bhagavad-gita (18.44), it is said that the mercantile community are meant to deal in agriculture, cow protection and trade. In the age of Kali, the degraded mercantile men are engaged in supplying cows to slaughterhouses. The administrators are meant to protect the citizens of the state, whereas the mercantile men are meant to protect the cows and bulls and utilize them to produce grains and milk. The cow is meant to deliver milk, and the bull is meant to produce grains. But in the age of Kali, unqualified men are in the posts of administrators, and the cows and bulls, or the mothers and the fathers, unprotected by the mercantile community, are subjected to the slaughterhouses organized by the unqualified administrators.” We find that the United States has created a “hamburger” culture that slaughters countless innocent cows and bulls every year and is busy exporting this “hamburger culture” to every other country in the world. Thus the karmic reaction for slaughtering so many innocent animals is unimaginable. If animals, particularly the cow and the bull, are slaughtered in such great numbers the reaction will be that the slaughters and those who eat the slaughtered animals will themselves have to be slaughtered in acts of terror as we have seen on September 11 and in the subsequent wars that follow. “The next symptom of the age of Kali is that principles of religion will be attacked by the uncultured population of the age. In the age of Kali, for want of sufficient education and culture of Vedic wisdom, the unqualified population will defy the principles of religion, and persons who are religiously endowed will be terrified by such men. They will declare themselves as adherents of no religious principles, and many “isms” and cults will spring up in Kali-yuga only to kill the spotless bull of religion. The state will be declared to be secular, or without any particular principle of religion, and as a result there will be total indifference to the principles of religion. The citizens will be free to act as they like, without respect for the holy men, the scriptures or the spiritual master. Even the fragmental existence of religious principles will be embarrassed by so many obstacles as if in the trembling condition of falling down at any time.” The four pillars of sinful life are illicit sex life, meat eating, gambling and intoxication. These four activities destroy religious life. The United States of America claims to be a religious country, printing “in God we trust” on the money and in the wake of September 11 displaying hundreds of thousands of banners calling out “God Save America.” The USA has one of the highest rates of church attendance in the world. Still we find the USA is very active in promoting sinful life both within the country and internationally. We have already mentioned America is intent on exporting its “Hamburger culture” to the rest of the world. America is also the biggest producer and distributor of pornography in the world. Everyone knows if one sits down to watch pornographic movies or read pornographic books anywhere in the world at least ninety percent of them are “made in America” and the “stars” are all American. More than ninety percent of the pornography on the internet comes from the USA and the USA makes no attempt to stop this large-scale distribution of pornographic literature which destroys the morals of the people who view it. So the USA is also intent on exporting pornography to the world. This is not Christian, not spiritual and not at all Godly. In fact it is down right evil. Of course a large part of the “American way of life” is alcohol and so many other forms of intoxication. They are also busy exporting that. And gambling… Another American export to the world. These four activities—meat eating, illicit sex, gambling and intoxication—destroy religious principles. Meat eating destroys the quality of compassion, illicit sex destroys the quality of cleanliness, gambling destroys the quality of honesty and intoxication destroys the quality of austerity. So the USA are slaughtering unlimited numbers of cows and bulls every year and trying to export their culture which is based on cow-killing, illicit sex, intoxication and gambling to the rest of the world. This is a most demoniac civilization and even though they may call out “God bless America” how can they expect God to bless America when their society is based on cow killing, illicit sex, intoxication and gambling? “The next symptom of the age of Kali is the distressed condition of the cow. Milking the cow means drawing the principles of religion in a liquid form. The great sages would live only on milk. Srila Sukadeva Gosvami would go to a householder while he was milking a cow, and he would simply take a little quantity of it for subsistence. Even fifty years ago, no one would deprive a sage of a quart or two of milk, and every householder would give milk like water. It is the duty of every householder to have cows and bulls as household paraphernalia, not only for drinking milk, but also for deriving religious principles. The cow’s milk is required for the sacrificial fire, and by performing sacrifices the householder can be happy. The cow’s calf not only is beautiful to look at, but also gives satisfaction to the cow, and so she delivers as much milk as possible. But in the Kali-yuga, the calves are separated from the cows as early as possible for purposes which may not be mentioned in these pages of Srimad-Bhagavatam. The cow stands with tears in her eyes, the milkman draws milk from the cow artificially, and when there is no milk the cow is sent to be slaughtered. “These greatly sinful acts are responsible for all the troubles in present society. People do not know what they are doing in the name of economic development. The influence of Kali will keep them in the darkness of ignorance. “Despite all endeavors for peace and prosperity, they must try to see the cows and the bulls happy in all respects. Foolish people do not know how one earns happiness by making the cows and bulls happy, but it is a fact by the law of nature. Let us take it from the authority of Srimad-Bhagavatam and adopt the principles for the total happiness of humanity. “In the age of Kali, the poor helpless animals, especially the cows, which are meant to receive all sorts of protection from the administrative heads, are killed without restriction. Thus the administrative heads under whose noses such things happen are representatives of God in name only. Such powerful administrators are rulers of the poor citizens by dress or office, but factually they are worthless, lower-class men without the cultural assets of the twice-born. No one can expect justice or equality of treatment from once-born (spiritually uncultured) lower-class men. Therefore in the age of Kali everyone is unhappy due to the maladministration of the state. The modern human society is not twice-born by spiritual culture. Therefore the people’s government, by the people who are not twice-born, must be a government of Kali in which everyone is unhappy. “In a civilization where God is conspicuously banished, and there is no devotee warrior like Arjuna, the associates of the age of Kali take advantage of this lawless kingdom and arrange to kill innocent animals like the cow in secluded slaughterhouses. Such murderers of animals stand to be condemned to death by the order of a pious king like Maharaja Pariksit. For a pious king, the culprit who kills an animal in a secluded place is punishable by the death penalty, exactly like a murderer who kills an innocent child in a secluded place.” [Quotations are from Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 1 Chapter 17 Punishment and Reward of Kali by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada]

  10. Namaste Kelly Prabhu, Well...what can I say?Knowledge is knowledge and you will find more of it in Santana dharma(eternal religion) now known as Hinduism. You simply need to read Srila Prabhupada books with interest and devote some time/intelligence. www.krishna.org has very nice articles. Have you completed reading "Bhagavad Gita as it is"?It is online www.asitis.com , www.asitis.com/gallery I am just curious if you have any Hindu cultural background? It always fascinates me while people in India are becoming Godless foreigners are taking interest despite language barrier. You will be just fine. Chant Hare krishna and be happy for happiness is holy! Joy
  11. Dear Girish, You cannot fight hate with hate! All that is happening is working of the divine reality and three modes of material nature."We are this" and "they are that" is thinking in the mode of ignorance...all chaos is due to forgetfulness of our constitutional position.Remember we are not Krishna so only by showing unconditional love towards all living entities can we attain eternal and lasting peace of mind. Chant Hare Krishna and be happy! God bless
  12. VHP(Vishva Hindu Parishad) means "World Hindu federation"... They are doing politics in God's name.On Valentines day they broke shops and violence is all they know.Right now a 100 day yajna(sacrifice)is going on in Ayodhya and they say they will not stop with the plans of building a temple there.
  13. Very unfortunate as we witness the fall of spiritual knowledge and rise of irreligion and poverty. Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Rama(12,000 years ago?) but Muslims built Babari mosque there, they consider it their holy place too.In 1993 all India riot broke out(tension was high in Mumbai)and 3000 people were killed. It all started when Hindus demolished the mosque forcefully with iron rods and other tools.Outrage is still there in hearts of people in general(such foolishness!)and it flared up again when some terrorist set up a train on fire which was carrying Hindus(of VHP party they are radical Hindus and trying to built temple on the same spot. Some suggestions were made to built temple and mosque side by side but to no avail). I was watching CNN this morning...a Hindu was saying they(muslims)should reap what they sow.I didn't agree coz we are not God and controlling others destiny is not our job. Those who try will face the same destiny themselves, law of karma is infallible. This is really age of Kali...more than 400 millions live in India under poverty line they can't even afford one time meal.So this is the present situation...India was once called the land of Gold and ocean of milk...see now what it has become,All spiritual knowledge is getting lost and people are becoming more and more selfish. Lets pray for welfare of all who live on this planet. HARIBOL! GOD BLESS ALL [This message has been edited by bhaktajoy (edited 03-04-2002).] [This message has been edited by bhaktajoy (edited 03-04-2002).] [This message has been edited by bhaktajoy (edited 03-04-2002).]
  14. Animal killing is going on heavily around the world.Almost 21 billions animals were slaughtered in US alone last year. What will happen to humans and how much suffering will nature impose on us?No wonder hate, diseases and calamites are ever increasing on this planet.Sometimes I wonder how Mother Earth could bear such heavy burdens of sin. God bless all. HARIBOL! [This message has been edited by bhaktajoy (edited 03-02-2002).]

  19. Yeah and it works great! Bronchitis,High fever,sinus,anxiety/depression...just to name a few. When I was 14 years old I tried to taste it...My mother was doing diploma in naturopathy. It was not easy at first but I am 18 years old now...all it needs is trial and error, worth trying!INCREDIBLE AMAZING RESULTS!IT WORKS FOR REAL! I have some books on auto therapy and many diseases have been cured 100%. My experience is it is not toxic at all.Digestion, hunger and body energy shoots up.
  20. Its not so difficult as it sounds.I am now used to it...can drink a glass in 1 minute.
  21. Sometimes I do auto urine therapy for flu or fever and it works great.
  22. All glories to srila prabhupada! Dear Jrdd prabhu, The food we eat have many subtle qualities which can only be felt but cannot be seen. This verse is just an example...butter is also contained in the curd but remains subtle. When we see colorful fruits and veges we feel the beauty of nature and the happiness, but when we see meat full of blood and disgusting smell we don't like that.We are what our thoughts are and good thoughts come from well being.Eating meat also fill us with bad karma and we start to feel the depression, anger, etc.Modern scientists cannot explain this as they remain very much busy pondering over the external only.Truth is beautiful and it is Shiva(the demigod of destroyer)which destroys all our ignorance... my 2 cents worth Take care my friend...God bless ya HARE KRISHNA!
  23. Make a paste of Turmeric powder and oil...apply evenly to gum and wait for 2-5 minutes.Brush with Listerine toothpaste. To keep your stomach healthy drink 3-8 glasses of warm to hot water a day.
  24. no.they were send by Lord Krishna himself.
