  1. I think that you made an important point about studying other faiths. To me that is the onluy way one can truly know if a religion is right for themb y being exposed to as many as possible. I know so many people who are devout Christians,Muslims, etc but who do not know anything aobut other faiths besides their one,and I think that that is narrow. I also agree with Hinduism being the religion of freedom.
  2. That's why I was always attracted to hinduism. The total freedom. Some people, like certain muslims have made the comment that there is not rules. But there are, they are just flexible, right? There is rules to everything. I personally feel that a faith does not have to be super stirct and rigid,to be effective.
  3. What you've stated is true in Indian culture in general, because I know Christian and Muslim Indians who practice those things you've mentioned.Patriarchy is a human phenomenon and as such is the human female burden.
  4. There are contradictions in all holy books. That's how you know they are fiction.
  5. Mine is opium and rose. I read that Kali likes musk, that is good too.How about you all? Post it. AUM KRIM KALI E
  6. Krim(3x)Hrim(3x)Hum(3x)Dakshin kalike, repeat krim, hrim, hum and say Svaha phat. Or just chant repeatedly Krim,or hrim,or hum etc. Rudraksha beads are helpful. AUM KRIM KALI E
  7. kali_ma/ goddesskali/ http://www.kalimandir.org/ http://www.shreemataa.org/ These are just some, and they have links to more sites. AUM KRIM KALI E
  8. Or Sanatana Dharma? I see alot of HK posts.Just curious.Anyway, I think I will start posting about Kali, because there isn't alot about Her here.
  9. I like the part about quarreling in God's name. That is so true. I think that people who argue over who has the truth of God are ignorant. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

  11. Namaste Are they in the Vedas or no? Does anyone know if a copy of the kalikula purana is available?
  12. http://www.sacred-texts.com/ They even have the Laws of Manu. OM KRIM KALI YE
  13. I like that concept, and so true.Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Om gum nama Ganapati om Om krim nama kali e om Om klim nama Shivaya om Om mani Padme hum Ma bud'allah(I beleive in God). AUM.
  14. Hinduism is a freely satisfying faith.Evangelicalism is such a blight on the earth.
  15. I think that is a tabloid.Even if that were true, everyone knows that the Pope is senile or damn near-. There is no point to that article except to spread false rumeurs. But it would be nice if Catholicism would "hindu up".
  16. Namaste you have made some good points. However,it is not true that one has to be killed if they leave Islam. That may happen in certain countries, but it is not islamic.I converted to islam, and now I do not practice it.But of course I am in the US. As for Osama loving Islam.Well the only thing that the world really knows as fact about the man is that he is froma wealthy Saudi family who disowned him,and he was hired and then made infamous by the US government.Islam plays no role here.
  17. Hi Barney You bring up very good points. But you also have to take in mind the current states of the world, especially thos epost-colonized nations who are finding down right impossible to compete with the west or just to have a stable country, and so many people return to religion and fundamentalism for the answers. And there are religious authorities ready and waiting to take advantage of the masses. These authorites, even in anciet times were paid or accepting money and bribes from conquerors as is the case today. The world has not changed in some arenas really.
  18. I have to agree with the muslim,it could be pure coincidence. It is certainly no secret that ancient Arabia had trade links throuhgout the eastern hemisphere, that artifact could just simply be a traded good.
  19. Hinduism has the Hijra, who are ritual transvestites. They are seen as holy especially when someone has a new baby, though they only bless baby boys:(.
  20. Thanx to you all for your advice. Guest, What is your advice on KaliMa?
  21. http://www.dalits.org/ and, http://www.kamat.com/kalranga/people/afro-indians/siddis.htm and, http://www.cwo.com/~lucumi/india.html
  22. The Dalits are a poeple who are descended from Africans who were enslaved and brought to India. I have read articles about them and it seems that they are assimilated and hindu. But they are a small group who are impoverished, and oppressed. As a note,we dont say "negroes" we say either black people,or African,or as in the case of the US,African-American.
  23. Namaste all I am new here, but not to the faith. I have read alot about Hinduism,in particular the Goddess Kali, who I began to worship during High school a few years back.I had always been of the mind that Hindusim doesnt convert until I read an article recently that said that it did. Then I read another article about a black South African who became a priest. I have always had a love and fascination with Hindusim, but never converted because I was told that because I was not Indian or of Indian descent that I could not be Hindu. Could someone give me the low down on the truth of the situation. Also, there is the issue of caste.I know that it goes hand in hand with Hinduism, but is is based solely on skin color?(I am African American,so this is quite important for me to know) I would love to join this beautiful faith.
