  1. According to a mantra in Taittiréya Upaniñad (yato vä imäni bhütäni jäyante) this cosmic manifestation is but an emanation from the Supreme Absolute Truth, and it rests in the Supreme Absolute Truth. The Absolute Truth has been called the ablative, causative and locative performer. Thus as a performer, He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for these are symptoms of personality. As the ablative performer of this cosmic manifestation, all thinking, feeling and willing come from Him. Without thinking, feeling and willing, there is no possibility of arrangement and design in the cosmic manifestation. Then again, He is causative, for He is the original designer of the cosmos. And He is locative: that is, everything is resting in His energy. These attributes are all clearly attributes of personality.
  2. The idea is that when we chant the holy name of God—just like "Krishna"—Krishna is present there. As soon as you chant God's name... Not necessarily that he will have to chant the name Krishna... Any other name which you know that it is God's name, you can chant it. God has got many names, and they can be chanted by different languages in different countries. The effect is the same. Practically, God has no name, but His name is given according to His activities. Just like we are chanting God's name "Krishna." Krishna means "all-attractive." So God is all-attractive.
  3. Yes that's fine. But Lord Caitanya said the Lord has invested His transcendental potencies into His hundreds and millions of names. All I am saying is that it is not for me to try to say which of them is more or less potent than any other. I guess I will leave that up to many folks here.
  4. I hope you followed those instructions because following them is the real meaning to acceptance. One should not neglect the internal changes that are meant to accompany the practice. I am sure you haven't but many do. Rather you have or have not though is your business. But I would suggest you not wear in on your chest like a badge of "authority" of some kind. It is meant for the deeper layers lying underneath.
  5. The simultaneous occurrence of the Lord's appearance and the lunar eclipse indicated the distinctive mission of the Lord. This mission was to preach the importance of chanting the holy names of the Lord in this age of Kali (quarrel). In this present age quarrels take place even over trifles, and therefore the sastras have recommended for this age a common platform for realization, namely chanting the holy names of the Lord. People can hold meetings to glorify the Lord in their respective languages and with melodious songs, and if such performances are executed in an offenseless manner, it is certain that the participants will gradually attain spiritual perfection without having to undergo more rigorous methods. At such meetings everyone, the learned and the foolish, the rich and the poor, the Hindus and the Muslims, the Englishmen and the Indians, and the candalas and the brahmanas, can all hear the transcendental sounds and thus cleanse the dust of material association from the mirror of the heart. To confirm the Lord's mission, all the people of the world will accept the holy name of the Lord as the common platform for the universal religion of mankind. In other words, the advent of the holy name took place along with the advent of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
  6. It is not for me to say which name is superior to whatever name. Just like different forms of the Lord may be more attractive or intimate than others but I don't try to qualify them myself. So Krishna may be three times more powerful than Rama. I am not trying to equate one with another. I simply say all Names of God are Krishna because Krishna is God. Let's not play "I say one and you say different.I say different and you say one." That is not very productive.
  7. ""It is the duty of swanlike people to take shelter of these names while accepting the previously mentioned twelve truths. Swanlike people of foreign countries whose languages and social positions are different should accept these holy names in their own language by taking a hint from this mantra. This means that in the process of worshipping this mantra there should be no complex scientific consideration, useless argument, or any type of direct or indirect prayer. If there is any prayer at all, it should be aimed at advancing one's love for God. Then it will be faultless. " I understand how you hear this and I can also see it in that way. But I don't believe that is what he is saying. "Swanlike people of foreign countries whose languages and social positions are different should accept these holy names in their own language by taking a hint from this mantra. " The word in is used instead of into. Therein I see the difference. Do you think the Lord is only present in Sanskrit or Hindi? I don't think that way. What irks me is that I never said or suggested anything that ridiculous and for you to state that i did is a strawman waste of both our time. None of your business {quote]In 1976, Srila Prabhupada instructed me, personally, "Chant Hare Krishna, follow the four regulative principles, and thoroughly read and assimilate my books".
  8. Once we get a little knowledge about what is going on it changes, gets more intense in many ways, less intense in others. But I was thinking about all those who never entertain such thoughts. The birds who even as they eat are always so apprehensive of danger and the other animals. Universes filled with souls living under needless fear. Then I remember it's all just a dream, less than a fraction of a moment in any one souls eternal life and it all becomes bright once again.
  9. Contemplating *death at any moment* sure spoils the party. Of course the wise want this.
  10. No one has a monopoly on sectarianism. My job is to weed it out of my own garden. I am cautious about mentioning the name Krsna in certain circles. And I never mention Radharani.
  11. It seems like such a strange mixture. From one angle it makes perfect sense to give no thought to death, afterall I never die. But then again because I try to transfer that sense of immortality onto the body I must be accepted as a fool because we can see every other organism in our world meets it's demise. Just one more problem that stems from misidentifying the self. Explain more on what you meant by, "such illusion can also be seen as a true mercy of the Lord."
  12. What is more tragic than universes filled with immortals who are all living under the fear of death?
  13. By approaching Lord Jesus the Supersoul is pleased. Christians often end their prayers to Jehovah by saying "In Jesus' name I pray". It is proper to approach Krishna under the shelter of Krishna's devotee. Naturally there will be reciprocal exchanges between the Supersoul and the one who approaches Him. "One step towards Krishna and He takes ten towards you." So this reciprocation is felt as an increased awareness of the presence of the Lord. But it is not clear. The mundane mind is also communicating and they (we) confuse the two. If they are all so in touch as they claim why do they say different things all the time? They don't have a strong support group of present advanced devotees and purified gurus, the writings of past saints and elevated sastra's to cross check what they think they hear in the hearts with. This cross checking and steady reexamination of ourselves and beliefs is vital. The fact that many who are attracted to Jesus are also attracted to Krishna should be no surprise. One Supersoul is leading this whole show. In fact it must be like that as stated by Prabhupada below.
  14. That is very clever but you should understand that the words whose meanings you are attempting to twist were written by Bhaktivinode Thakur. Personally I like the Maha-mantra in it's present form. That is my attraction but others for whatever reason may have another attraction. You apparently have have a certain prejudice against names of God in other languages. They may have the same. So go with what you are familiar with hopefully without making offenses to names for the Lord in other languages unless you think pouring water on a fire while trying to light it is an intelligent approach. The principle that Bhaktivinode is putting forth is that whatever names one chooses to chant should be free from mundane petitions. "If there is any prayer at all, it should be aimed at advancing one's love for God. Then it will be faultless." That means not chanting to get rid of our sinful reactions, or for peace in the world, or liberation even. We are to beg for pure love of God only.
  15. Yes Krishna and Yeshua are different beings. One is the Father and the other the Son. Most people on this forum refer to the Supreme Lord as Krishna as it is more intimate than "God" or "Father". You needn't accept that. Perhaps you refer to the Father as Jehovah or some other name. The point is you have entered into an association here that respects the name Krishna so please be careful. Many harsh "Christians" enter and only succeed in widening the needless gulf of sectarian strife. I am not saying you have only that we need to be careful. You can hear the statement in my signature like this. One who says they love the Father must love the Son also and one who says they love the Son must love the Father also. Many Christians are even as we speak (and have for years) smuggled Bibles into communist countries against the laws of those countries in an attempt to bring God's message. Sometimes laws should be broken. And at all times when the laws are there for the purposes of religious persecution. Hare Krishna God bless
  16. This excerpt is on page 58 of the Vrajraj press edition. (While discussing the Hare Krishna Maha mantra) Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare "It is the duty of swanlike people to take shelter of these names while accepting the previously mentioned twelve truths.
  17. I don't know anything about liquid naicin. The flush just refers to the capilarries near the skin opening up dramatically allowing an increase in blood flow. You can take cayenne pepper in capsule form or I sometimes put it in water and drink it down. Soup broth with cayenne cooked in into it is also a good way. Apparently there are several causes for tinnitus. Do a google search and you will bring up a lot of info. Good luck and please share something you find that helps.
  18. [qoute]Krishna displays more qualities then any of his expansions, but they are all the same Supreme Lord.
  19. You are arguing against a point that was not made. That is not helpful to the discussion. Yes. You should not whimisically make up mantras. I am glad you realized that before it was too late.
  20. A couple of things. One you kindly pointed out my offence to the holy name and that would not surprise me in the least as it is my habit to so offend. But if you would you show me where and how I have made such an offense then and only then will I be able to correct it. So please do so. Please consider the following and then tell me if you want to amend your statement below. The word "Krishna'' means "All Attractive,'' so where you get the foreign element in Krishna? Does it mean that He is attractive for all except yourself? And if He is not attractive to you, why it is so?-- Letter LA 1970
  21. I am unable to ascertain the varieties of potency or rasas that may come from any given Holy Name. Is Vamana more powerful Varaha? I have no idea.
  22. March 12, 1972, Vrindavana Prabhupada: There is a book, perhaps you might have read, Aquarian Gospel. So in that book I have read there is a Greek word, Christo. Christo... Sometimes we don't say Krishna, we say Krishta. Dr. Kapoor: Krishta, yes, in Bengali particularly. Prabhupada: Yes. So this Christo word means "anointed." Krishna's face is anointed. And love also. And this Christ title was given to Jesus on account of his love for God. So on the whole, the conclusion is Krishna or Christo means "love of Godhead."
