  1. Reference : http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_473961,0008.htm Test confirms 'sadhu' abstained food, water for 66 years Press Trust of India Ahmedabad, November 27 It's no fast-unto-death, it's no hunger strike. But a septuagenarian sadhu's apparently simple decision to switch off food since the age of ten after being "blessed by the Goddess" that has left scientists perplexed. Prahllad Jani, the 76-year-old 'sadhu' from the pilgrim town of Ambaji in north Gujarat, has scientifically proved that he neither ate nor drank anything for the past 66 years. Jani claims that he has managed to fight hunger and thirst after he was blessed by "Mataji" (Ambaji deity) at the age of 10 years. The medical fraternity did not believe it prima facie, but after a close 10-day observation, including sonography twice a day, at the Neuro ICCU of Sterling Hospital, medicos had to admit that Jani has the ability to survive without food and water. Hospital authorities confirmed that Jani not only refrained intake through mouth or any other route but he also did not excrete, while under observation. "No doubt, his bladder produced 400 ml urine during the day, but the next day it was absorbed by the bladder itself", Dinesh Desai, a doctor at the Sterling Hospital said. "Mataji blessed me at the age of 10 with energy in the form of 'Amrut' from my upper jaw to sustain me and since then I have never felt the need for food nor water nor have I fallen ill," Jani claimed. "I will continue to live like this till she commands," he added. "Though no normal person can continue without passing stool or urine for more than seven days, Jani is absolutely normal and shows the same physiological process like any other person. He is fit and fine," Dr VN Shah, a member of the Association of Physicians of Ahmedabad (APA), said. The panel formed by APA, which took it upon itself to verify the authenticity of Jani's claim to observe him included a physician, cardiologist, neurologist, neurosurgeon, gastoenterologist, diabetologist and an ENT surgeon. The Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), New Delhi would be conducting further research on him, Shah added. Jani has now been discharged from the hospital but doctors intend to keep a track of him as this could result into new findings. govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

  9. Reality 1. A Ghost attacks me. I start praying different gods, like praying the head of ghosts "Annappa", but still the ghost continues to bite my back. I start reciting verses from "Hanuman Chalisa", but still no help, and my suffering continued. Then I started to cry and call my Govinda. He comes immediately and drives away the Ghost with his sword. I clearly saw his Tilaka and sword with his youth form. Then I curled around his feet, just like a baby curls in the womb. I woke and heard a cat's cry nearby. This was strange because we did not have cats and I was staying in 7th floor, so no chances of roaming cats. Reality 2. Two (One male and one female) old and ugly forms wanted to catch me. They were ugly with Leprosy and were very scaring. I tried running away from them, but they followed me with their open hands to catch me. Then I saw two bright forms one male and one female (I strongly believe them to be my Govinda and Lakshmi Devi) They were very bright, so I was not able to see their face. When the ugly old from was very near and just about to catch me, my Govinda came in-between myself and the ugly form. The ugly form stepped back and tried catch me from different directions. But my Govinda also moved very fast in different directions, so that he was always in-between myself and the ugly form. I was also running, but suddenly I fell down. Now I was more venerable and felt that the ugly form can catch me easily. Then my beautiful Govinda fell upon me, covering me from all directions. Reality 3. I went to an ancient temple. There was a river near the temple. People were telling that crossing the river brings good luck. They were also advising that the head should bow down and should never be lifted up while crossing the river. I reached the river, but the river was flowing ferociously. Then I laughed at myself thinking how can someone cross such a fast flowing river. Then a young man who was in his youth, with a long black beard appeared (whom I believe none other than my Govinda) and instructed me to cross the river. I clearly saw his black beard for some time and was not able to find even a single white hair. People nearby were discussing that this young man is usually not visible and his appearance is auspicious. I told him, it is difficult for me to cross such a fast flowing river. He replied, it is easy if I concentrate all my senses on the river. He demonstrated this by crossing the river. He had his head bent down, using both the hands and legs (thus using all the sense organs), he very easily reached other side of the river. He returned and advised me to do the same. I started to cross the river using the same method demonstrated by him. Almost half way down the river, I heard many times, a loud female voice (It must me Lakshmi Devi) encouraging me "well done.. Cross the river". I wanted to see who was this female encouraging me, so lifted my head. The moment I lifted my head, I slipped and was forced down for some distance by the river. Then the female voice started to tell loudly "Do not look up. Do not look up. Look down and cross the river". So, I looked down towards the water, and reached the other side of the shore. I woke up breathing heavily and my hands were near the cassette player. I played Vedic Chants and slept again. Strangely, the dream continued. I wanted to cross the river and return back, but was not able to cross the river because the river had frozen. I still wonder, what can be the meanings for the third Dream govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

  11. The glories of Sri Venkateswara is described in Varaha Purana,Bhavishyothara Purana,Markandaya Purana, etc Salutations to Lord Venkateswara who is beyond Maya (Ignorance) and who is empowered to do all tasks in the universe. Salutations to Him who is the husband of Ramadevi, who is calm, possesses innumerable heads and hands, and an endless body which pervades the entire universe." --Bhavishyothara Purana govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami.
  12. Now considering this seriously, Sitting on the white horse with a blazing sword depicts fighting with the evil. Kalki gives protection to the good from evil people. So the following questions arise. How many wicked heads were cut by the blazing sword for Jesus? If he never used it, it gives us a feeling that he did this for entertaining people without actually using it. So do you think that he was some entertainer? How can a person who was not able to protect his own body from evil people give protection to good from evil? govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
  13. I can also sit on a white horse holding a sharp sword, but that does not make me Kalki. In fact, during marriage in India, the groom sits on white horse holding a sharp sword. That does not make everyone Kalki. There are many many other indications that needs to be considered. For example, he should be a son of a brahmin Vishnusharma, etc govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

  15. yasoda nandana dasa, It was a beautiful Reply. My respects to your feet. Regarding Jesus, I do not exactly remember the site. The latest Avatar mentioned was Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Also I do not have any Idea about the source of following sloka "Krite Nrisimha Bhoothosou Tretaayaam Rgahunandanah Dwaapare Vaasudevas Cha kalao Vemkatanaayakah" I will try to search it. 16. Yes, I agree completely and take back my words. When we, the servents are here, there is no need for him to take the trouble of coming to this temporary miserable world. He is our "Govinda, gohita, gopati, gopta". Let he give us strength to fight these animal slaughtering demons. 19. But what a small child understands clearly, is not understood by an educated individual. If a small child and an educated individual is explained the ill effects of meat eating, I am sure that the child understands it more clearly. Instead the educated Individual will give his own logic to prove the benefits of meat eating. Any other suggestions to fight these animal slaughtering demons are very much welcome. govindam adi-purusam tam aham avahayami
  20. I hope everyone is aware of the argument to allow or ban cow slaughter in India. It is really a shame to have such an argument at least inside India where cows are worshipped. In harsh words, cow slaughter means killing the cow for it meat. Another method of slaughter is 'Halal', where the throat of the cow is partially slit open. Blood seeps out slowly, and the Cow dies a very slow and extremely painful death. Even as you are reading this, many cows are dying a horrible death as mentioned above. This makes me wonder who is the root cause for the above distress to the Cows ? Is it our Govinda the cause of all causes ? I have heard statements like "Not even a blade of grass moves without his divine will" Bhagavad-Gita Chapter Eighteen Text 61 : The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy. Srimadbhagavatam Canto 6 Chapter 17 Text 19 In this material world, neither the living entity himself nor others the doer [friends and enemies] are the cause of material happiness and distress. But because of gross ignorance, the living entity thinks that he and others are the cause. VISHNU SAHASRANAMAM has the following : govinda - The word Go in Sanskrit has four meanings: 'Earth', 'Cows', 'Speech' and 'Vedas'. He, who is the Protector of the Cow's and gives pleasure to the cows, gohita - He is the well- wisher and benefactor of the cows; gopati - He is the master and controller of the cows; gopta - He is the protector of the cows At the present time, none of the above four are in a good shape. When the above thought brings tears to our eyes, how can Govinda who is famous as Protector of the Cow's tolerate such an action. If he is not a cause for the above distress for cows, then it is his duty to give them his infinite protection. Since the protection of cows on this planet has now become out of our scope, we can only cry and call him to appear and protect them. But one of the surprising factor is, not calling upon Govinda to appear when the situation is beyond our control. Throughout Srimadbhagavatam we can see that whenever there was distress, he was sincerely called and he never failed to appear just like mother giving milk to a crying baby. But now we have mentally decided that the Supreme Personality of Godhead will not appear with he full power in the fourth Yuga (Vishnu, only seen as a covered 'channa' - avatar in the last, fourth yuga) or he will only appear during the end of the Kali Yuga, till then we have to wait without any hope. But the maker of rules never has such rules. Never was such an pre-calculated assumption made in history. His promise was (Bhagavad-Gita Chapter Four Text 7 - 8) yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srjamy aham paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam dharma-samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion-at that time I descend Myself. In order to deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I advent Myself millennium after millennium In the above promise of Sri Krsna, importance should be given for the words "sambhavämi yuge yuge" which clearly means anytime during any Yuga. He never promised "sambhavämi tri-yugo" to indicate he will appear only during the first three Yugas, nor did he promise "sambhavämi yugante" to indicate he will appear only during the transition of Yuga. So my humble request to all the Sri Vaishnavas devotees, it is high time we start crying for his protection as things are completely out of our control and he is the only refuge now. If he really wants to retain his titles as "Govinda, gohita, gopati, gopta", he has to come now to protect his cows on this Planet and reestablish the principles of religion. govindam adi-purusam tam aham avahayami
  21. Hari OM, Has Srila Prabhupada has mentioned anything about Sri Venkateswara I would like to use this forum to find out if Srila Prabhupada has mentioned anything about Sri Venkateswara. I found the following interesting Article. It might be of interest to many of you. Sri Hari OM TAT SAT. "Krite Nrisimha Bhoothosou Tretaayaam Rgahunandanah Dwaapare Vaasudevas Cha kalao Vemkatanaayakah (meaning) "While Narasimha was the Lord of Kritayuga, Rama (Raghunandana) was the Lord of Treta yuga, Krishna (Vaasudeva) of Dwaapara yuga, it is Venateswara (Venkata naayakah) who is the Lord of Kaliyuga." Dear Bhagavatas, We discuss below the significance of Thiruvemkatam and Sri Venkateswara in the context of Saranagathi. This is an excerpt from my talk delivered at the Pittsburgh temple in connection with the Sri Venkateswara Mahima Bhakta Sammelanam held recently. I am sure by the time you reach the end of this article, you would have made up your mind to vote for Tiruvemkatam as the most favored Divya Desam. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ============================================================ WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TIRUVENKATAM AND SRI VENKATESWARA IN THE CONTEXT OF SARANAGATHI? For this, we have to look at the Mega Calendar of our faith and the number of Avatars the Lord took in each. Kaliyuga in which we live is said to have 4,32,000 human years; Dwapara double that (Dwa means twice) i.e. 8,64,00 human years; Treta, treble that of Kaliyuga (Tre means three times) i.e. 12,96,000 human years; Kritayuga, four times i.e.17, 28,000 human years. Thus a Mahayuga has 43,20,000 human years. The first 4 Avatars (Matsya, Kurma, Varaha and Nrisimha) are deemed to have taken place in Krita Yuga; The next 3 Avatars (Vamana, Parasu Rama and Rama) in Treta Yuga; The next 2 (Balarama and Krishna) in Dwapara Yuga. The last 1, Kalki, the Apocalypse yet to take place in this Kaliyuga in the descending order in tune with the length of each yuga. And, the Lord appears in Archa Vigraha as Sri Venkateswara till then. There is a Sloka which says- "Krite Nrisimha Bhoothosou Tretaayaam Rgahunandanah / Dwaapare Vaasudevas Cha kalao Vemkatanaayakah // (meaning) "While Narasimha was the Lord of Kritayuga, Rama (Raghunandana) was the Lord of Treta yuga, Krishna (Vaasudeva) of Dwaapara yuga, it is Venateswara (Venkata naayakah) who is the Lord of Kaliyuga." As we are in KALIYUGA, we surrender to this KALIYUGA VARADA - Lord Srinivasa. Some hold Lord Ranganatha in the place of Narasimha but all are agreed on the other three. The word "Tiru Vemkatam" means One who is the Lord of both "Tiru" and "Vemkatam" or it might mean "Vemkatam" which is blessed by "Tiru" or Piraatti. Again, of all the mountains where our Lord has taken his abode, Brahmaanda Puraana says- " Krite Vrishaadrim Vakshyanti Tretaayaam Anjanaachalam / Dwaapare Sesha Saileti kalou Sree Vemkataachalam // The word "Vem" means 'sins' and the word "Katam' means 'that which destroys' - "Sarva Paapaani Vem Praahuhu Kata Ithyaaha Uchyate, Thasmaath Vemkata Sailoyam Lokae Vikhyaata Keerthimaan". There is also a solitaire in Tamil, which reflects the same sense: "Vem Kodum Paavangal Yellaam Venthida Seivathaal Nal Mangalam Porundhum Seer Vemakata Malai Aanathu.". Nammalwar in his Tiruvoimozhi 3.3.6 says- Vemkatangal Meymmel Vinai Mutravum Thaangal Thangatku nallanave Seivaar / Vemkatathu Uraivaarkku Namavennalaam Kadamai, Adhu Sumanthaakatke // (Meaning) It is our duty to offer our 'Pranaamams' to those who live in Tiruvemkatam. For us who are bearing the heavy burden of sins, this is the only way to get our sin extinguished- because they are the ones who perform their duties appropriately. (Remember that this was during the time of Nammalwar!) In those days, people used to climb up the mountain on foot and worship the mountain itself. They would not wear footwear while climbing and would recite "Vemkata Vaasine Namah" echoing what Nammalwar has said above. Nammalwar in his Tiruvoimozhi 3.3.8 further advises that if you go to the seven hills and pray, all your sins will vanish- "Senru Ser Tiruvemkata Malai Onrume Thozha Nam Vinai Ozhiyume" Swami Desika commences his Daya Satakam by surrendering to the very mountain thus- "Prapadhye Tham Girim Praayah Sreenivaasa Anukampayaa / Ikshu Saara Sravanthyeva yan Moorthyaa Sarkaraayitham" (meaning) The mercy of the Lord of Tiruvemkatam flows like the juice of the Sugarcane. The mountain is like this juice that had solidified into Sugar Cube. I surrender to such a mountain of mercy". Here Srinivasa is Sugarcane; His mercy is the juice. It is He who raises the crop; it is He who allows His Daya to flow and become solidified. Daya can only tolerate our sins; but this mountain can even destroy all our sins. Bhishma Pitaamahar refers to this Srinivasa in his Sahasranamam in 8 words: "Sridhah, Srisah, Srinivaasah, Srinidhi, Srivibhaavanah, Sridharah, Srikarah, Sreyo, Srimaan" Bhagavad Ramanuja in his invocatory verse of his Sribashyam of Brahma Sutram says that Lord Srinivasa stands on top of the Mountain of Upanishads (Sruti Sirasi) and proclaims to the world that He is the very "Paramatma" (Brahmani Srinivase) Sri Madvaachaariar in his "Theertha Prabandham" says that "Lord Srinivasa stands on top of the mountain and looks around all the directions to bless his devotees; He even stands on top of the Tall trees on the mountain top as if searching for us to shower his mercy". "Drishtvaa Disi Disi Sweeyaan Dayayaa Paalayantha Iva/ Vardhate Viswatah Sakshuh Vemkate Vemkateswarah //" Swami Desika describes the "Thiruvemkata Malai" in the ' Paasuram' in Sthana Visesha Adhikaram of his "Srimad Rahasya Traya Saram"thus- Kannan Adyinai Emakkuk Kaattum Verpu, Kadu Vinayar Iru Vinaiyum Kadiyum Verpu, Thinnamidu Veedena Thigazhum Verpu, Thelinda Perum Thirthangal Serinda Verpu, Punniyathin Pugalidena Pugazhum Verpu, Ponnulagil Bogamellaam Punarkum Verpu Vinnavarum Mannavarum Virumbhum Verpu, Vemkata Verpena Vilangum Veda Verpe" (Meaning) " The mountain that reveals to us the two holy feet of Sri Krishna; the mountain where wicked sinners get rid of their 'Punya' and 'Papa'; the mountain on which flow holy streams perennially with pellucid waters; the mountain that is extolled as the abode of all righteous actions; the mountain that secures all the enjoyments of 'Paramapada' (the region of the dazzling gold); the mountain that is longed for by the eternal 'Suris' and the people of this earth; that is the only mountain that is described in the Vedas and famous as Vemkata hills" Nammalwar in his Tiruvoimozhi 6.10.11 surrenders himself at the feet of Tiru vem kata Nathan in his famous Pasuram " Akalagillen Iraiyum Enru Alarmel Mangai Urai Malar Maarba" which he concludes by saying "Tiruvemkatathaane! Pugal Onrum Illaa Adiyen Unn Adik Keezh Amarndhu Pugundhene". It is but proper that we also do our ' Bhara Samarpanam ' at the feet of Lord Vemkateswara . Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy
