Hare Krishna !!! Theist Prabhu, I know you are being sarcastic but thats fine. I guess I deserve it. I had seen the milksucks.com site before, went thru it again today. Its really sad to see the horrible conditions these poor animals have to live in and the pain and suffering they go through. Anyways, I have never understood the double standards practised in the western countries regarding ill treatment of pets dogs, cats etc vis a vis farms animals like cows. I have watched Animals cops shows on TV where the owners receive citation/fines/etc.. for improperly treating pets, not giving them proper medical attention, not cleaning them etc.. How come the same laws are not applied to farm animals ? Are there different laws for farm animals and pets ? Haribol !!!

I think we all agree that a lot of work needs to be done regarding cow protection issue and if some devotees can abstain from using milk well - thats very good. Later I found that most of the Soy milk have number of additives to make their taste acceptable. And apart from that most of them contain Vitamin D - which cud be animal based. That was the reason I was asking you about your soy milk brand/ingredients. I have also read not so good reports of daily consumption of Soy milk. The only option remains is to make milk at home using Soy /other nuts. but that may not be possible for me at this juncture. but will surely give it a try. Again thanks for your kind response. Hare Krishna Theist Prabhu, I think your stand on the milk issue is really appreciable, I agree with you that more people should become serious about cow protection rather than just paying lip service . I personally have not been able to adopt a diet without milk and I don’t think it would be possible for me in the near future. I would be glad to pay extra money if it would have been possible to get milk near where I live from a goshala. When I looked at soymilk – most of them contained ingredients I avoid. I am curious about your life style and diet though. How do you get the required minerals, vitamins and other essentials ? 1) Do you drink any other milk – like soy or nut .. etc – -- which brand and what are its ingredients ? 2) Do you avoid all leather goods ? 3) Do you avoid gelcaps or capsules ? – what if you were sick and the pills the doctor prescribed come only in those forms ? 4) Do you avoid using any films for photos etc ? 5) Do you avoid white sugar ? 6) Do you avoid glycerin, glycerides in soaps, shampoos, shaving creams, eatables? 7) Do you look for any animal based ingredients in your toothpaste, body lotions ? 8) Do you avoid using a mrdanga or listening to a mrdanga ? 9) Do avoid using or hearing a shankha/ conch shell ? 10) Do you write to companies selling/using animals products – the reason you have stopped using a certain product? Please do not take this as criticism of your stand, I would really like to know what alternatives you use so that I or others who are interested in avoiding animal products can atleast consider the alternatives. I am sure given a choice most devotees would be more than willing to take the extra time/money to consider the alternatives if not today maybe some time in the future. If the media decide to term the religion of people of Jordan (Christians, Muslim and Jews clubbed together) as ‘Jordanism’ since all the practitioners of Jordanism – believe in Adam , Eve, Noah, Moses and Eternal Hell and what not. And suppose it catches on. And goes on like that for 2000 yrs. Maybe the term Jordanism becomes extremely popular – since its all inclusive of the 3 major faiths. If a Jewish person then argues that he does not practise Jordanism - a person like Superman would argue no since Jordanism believes in Adam, Eve, Noah..Moses.. etc and Jews too believe in them – therefore both Jewism and Jordanism is the same. You cannot try to equate a corrupted derivative to the Original !!! Similarly, the only thing common between various belief systems you lump together as one under Hinduism is the belief in the reincarnation, existence of the soul and karma. Even though all of them are supposedly based on the Vedas – the conclusions are sometimes diametrically opposite. For example: Gita is considered as the essence of all the Vedas and though all Hindus take a oath on the Gita in a Indian court – they hardly accept the teachings of the Gita – that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, rather some Hindus consider Krishna as a myth, other hindus consider Krishna same as any other GODs or even babas etc.. Yet many so-called Hindus today reject even the Vedas, consider Vedas/Puranas as a figment of somebody’s imagination, do not believe in the soul or reincarnation. So what then is common in the various groups you said are Hindus ? <font color="blue"> Superman said “All in all, the word Hindu refers to anything that is Vedic in origin. Priyaji, Take this advise as if from a older brother. Many muslim guys take it as their religious obligation to convert ‘kafirs’ i.e. non-believers like yourself to their faith. They stoop down to any level to achieve their goal – nothing is considered wrong so far as converting kafirs is concerned. I don’t know which country you reside in but in India as well as most of Europe, Denmark ,Holland, England(esp London and other big cities) its very common for Muslim guys (especially Pakistani muslims) to purposely cajole Hindu girls and the more religious the hindu girl – the more zeal they display to entice these girls. Most of the times these stupid Hindu girls are just trophies to be displayed among their Muslim friends. They seldom marry them. And of those who marry by saying that the girl does not have to convert they make their lives LIVING HELL – if not the boy himself and then his relatives. Its always a struggle to stand up for your faith once you are married – In Islam its pretty easy to divorce too just say ‘Talaq’ ‘Talaq’ Talaq’ and he is free bird. And its not really a big deal in their society. Most girls go after them for ‘looks’ or ‘physique’ i.e mostly lust because beyond that they don’t possess much. You have to use your GOD given intelligence wisely – don’t be a sentimental fool. Its possible he is a nice guy and really loves you for who you are etc…but very unlikely. Hare Krsna !! I think most sour cream and yogurt are fine. Watch out for the low-fat or fat-free ones. Beware of the 'Great Value' or 'GV' brand they almost always contain gelatin. Danon's plain yogurt are fine but their yogplaits are not neither are many of the fruit on the bottom yogurts most of them contain gelatin. In the online Bhagvadgita pdf from e-book at krishna.com the Fifth guru in the discplic succesion is given as 'Madhva (Advaita)' and the eigth guru is given as 'Madhava' (Ma in this name is with the dash on the top indicating its Maa). In the present printed versions the word Advaita is no longer present for the fifth guru. Hare Krsna !!! I know some of you devotees avoid milk from the commercial milk factories(industrial cows !!). But I am not that elevated. I still comsume milk products - the question I have today is - What is the source of enzymes in sour cream ? I know some enzymes are animal based like the rennet used in cheeses while others are not like in Yogurt, which also contains bacteria which are not animal derived. But what about sour cream ? The reason I am asking is some of the sour cream products were marked 'Kosher'. The ingredients had only one listing 'Cultured Sour Cream'. Hare Krsna !!! Why do we have to stoop to this level of degradation ? Vaishanava philosophy is supposed to be looking beyond our external bodily features of birth, race, gender, wealth, facial features, hair styles and instead focus on identifying the soul as the true self and work towards reestablishing our personal relationship with the Supreme Lord - Shri Krishna – then how come these ‘Vaishnavas’ feel no qualms in making crude remarks about others physical appearance ? What kind of hypocrisy is this ? I mean no offense to anybody here but I have seen this sort of behavior (personal attacks on the basis of looks) way too often and its time somebody spoke about this. Why can’t devotees make their point in a more objective manner instead of resorting to attacking others looks and hairstyle ? Should we not argue our philosophy in such a way that even a person who is opposed to our beliefs should be attracted to it. If we see a problem in others philosophy or belief – we should oppose it on the basis of Shastras, Vedas , Upanishads, Puranas or other scriptures - we have studied. Srila Prabhupad has provided us with a wealth of books we can use for this purpose. Hare Krsna!!!

Hare Krishna !!! You mean the Philops Expanium can resume from exactly where I stopped or do u mean from the beginning of the track I was playing. For example - I am listening to track # 6 for 30 minutes (of the total 45 minutes) when I bookmark and stop. I currently have a Audiophase CDM357 Personal CD Player (with car kit) got it for I think $29.99 from Best Buy has been using it(plays MP3s, CD, CD-Rs) for more than month without any problems. But what I am really for is a MP3 player which I can resume from where I last stopped even after Power offs. I know there are some available in the market but don't know which one or how to look for it. I don't know what this feature is called. Any help will be appreciated. HariBol !!!

Hare Krishna !! I wanted to buy the Srimad-Bhagavatam full set (which has all the 12 cantos) 18 volume set. Is there anybody who wants to sell it ? I am in the USA and the new ones I thought are a bit expensive especially since I might move to India in a few years and I will again buy a set there. The authorities have categorically denied to Forum 18 that they are pursuing a deliberate policy against the Hare Krishna community. However the horticultural association, on whose land the Hare Krishna commune is situated, have come under heavy pressure from the authorities to make a statements against the community. The Hare Krishna community intends to defend vigorously its right to protection from "such pseudo-guardians of the law". In the wake of a series of raids and pressure on members of a Hare Krishna commune in Karasai district on the outskirts of Kazakhstan's commercial capital Almaty, the head of the Council of the Hare Krishna Community in Kazakhstan has accused the local authorities of trying to drive the Hare Krishna community out of the district. Sergei Kornilov told Forum 18 News Service on 8 December that a raid on the community in early November formed part of this "deliberate policy". But Zhanas Amanbayev of the Karasai district procuracy - who took part in the November raid - categorically denied to Forum 18 that the authorities were pursuing a deliberate policy against the Hare Krishna community. Amanbayev visited the commune on 2 November together with fellow procuracy official Yesen Ustelbayev and immigration officials. Kornilov reported that the officials rounded up members of the Hare Krishna community, claiming to be conducting a passport investigation. In spite of repeated requests, the officials failed to present any written order conferring the right to carry out any investigation, and after taking the passports of two people (who were properly registered) they left. On the same day Ustelbayev and Amanbayev literally burst in on the head of the horticultural association on whose land the Hare Krishna commune is situated. They put psychological and moral pressure on her to give evidence against the Hare Krishna community and its members, threatening her with a search and accusing her of protecting and conniving with the Hare Krishna community. Kornilov maintains that everyone who wants to join the horticultural association now has to give the Karasai technical inventory bureau a written declaration that he or she is not a member of the Hare Krishna community. Only then are applications accepted for processing. One of the bureau officials reportedly told Kornilov privately that this was an unwritten order from above. According to Kornilov, procuracy officials continue to "terrorise" the head of the horticultural association, demanding that she should provide evidence against members of the Hare Krishna community. Ustelbayev said in an informal chat on 5 November that he would do all he could to bring a criminal case against her. On 14 November, she was summoned to the Karasai procuracy, where officials told her they had no quarrel with her personally, but needed just one thing: that she should write something blackening the members of the Hare Krishna community. Otherwise, she was told, they would raid the horticultural association's land. Amanbayev of the Karasai district procuracy insisted that the 2 November investigation was routine. "There are always foreigners living on the Hare Krishna commune, and under Kazakh law foreigners visiting Kazakhstan must register with the police," he told Forum 18 on 8 December. "That is why we carried out a routine planned investigation into their observation of the passport regime." Amanbayev also said that the procuracy had received "alarm signals" about the head of the horticultural association. Then Amanbayev suddenly changed the tone of his conversation with Forum 18. "I am not going to say any more to you. Such discussions should not be conducted over the telephone. And after all, how do I know that you really are a journalist? If you want information from us, come and see us, or send us an official list of questions." Although the Hare Krishna community was registered in Karasai district in May 2002, Kornilov complains that since that time the procuracy and district police have launched a "veritable persecution" of it. Over the past six months they have several times undergone all possible investigations, during which officials at the procuracy and the police have openly declared that they would make every effort to expel the Hare Krishna community from the district. He added that officials generally fail to present any documents conferring the right to carry out investigations and speak to people in a rough, condescending and insulting manner. "We are trying to be law-abiding citizens and to be governed entirely by the laws imposed on us by the state, one of which is the right to freedom of conscience," Kornilov told Forum 18. He insisted that his community's activity, like that of all religious confessions, is permitted by the country's religion law and other legal documents. "We operate within the limits of these laws." But he stressed that the Hare Krishna community intends to defend vigorously its right to be protected "from any kind of extortion, blackmail and other unlawful actions on the part of certain citizens, whatever position they may hold". Kornilov said they have already appealed for protection from "such pseudo-guardians of the law" over various incidents, but with no positive result. "Every time our declarations and appeals have either ended up at the same Karasai procuracy for investigation or we have received a short and laconic reply declaring that nothing unlawful in the actions of procuracy officials has been established."
