In 1940, archaeologist M.S. Vats discovered three Shiva Lingas at Harappa, dating more than 5,000 years old. This rare archival photo shows that ancient Shiva Linga as it was being excavated from the Harappa site.

I can bet you they have Shiva lingas on the moon but they wont show us.

Why is it that we can never get clear pictures with these stories. Surely this Linga is still around in a museum or somewhere?
It is really nice to see Shiva Lingam an ancient one.Its worship is age old proving the continuity up to now.

It is no wonder Shiv Lingas are found in Harappa and Mohechadaro since they are ancient Aryan settlements. Since Hinduism is very old religion you may find many such discoveries around the many archaeological sites in the world.

But, since 1940 what happened to these Shiv Lingas? The present archaeologists should go back to archives to research and tell us of its existance in the present times.

For decades the D&R groups have been trying to show that Harappa was distinct from Vdeic lifestyle.So such info will always be hidden by TPTB.
INTERESTING QUESTION; Harappan was a huge city. It is not clear if that it was part of a greater kingdom of similar cities. The other difficulty is that various gods from nar-by civilisations of closest past had the same artifacts than Lord Siva.Eg, the moon, the horns, the sitting posture, the mountain, the trishu, the animals etc..
It can be also possible that this so called linga is a property/land limit pole or city limit or even a weight for transactions or a scale to mesure loads, etc. All this depends on what they find around it.
to remember : in all mesopotamia, persia, russia, india, japan, almost every where in the bronze age, there was some cult using erected stone-like lingas. Lingas are signs of light, power, generation, energy and universe.

if they have pasupathi symbol (shiva) in their seal, why dont they have worshipped siva.

I have seen exact same image, on wall painting, from ancient Egypt, in a boat, and the so-called “expert Egyptologists” label it a “ben-Ben” stone.

Sanathana Dharma is the oldest religion of this universe:It is not surprising that Shiva Lingas are found in many places of this world:Hindu gods & goddesses are found all over the place.Now there is awareness of the ancient architectural pieces & are identified & crdit given to the Hindu religion
Shiva linga found in Harappan era gives evidence of Worship even in those times 5000 years ago.It speaks volumes of Indian Hindu religion’s ancient origin . It also proves that Hinduism was practised by these harappans .Research should be further carried out to show whether this linga was man made, or swayabhu linga which manifested itself out of God Shivas blessings.

There was a time when ploughing was prohibited in northern India. At the same time, ploughing was lauded in Tamilnadu by poets like Kambar and Thiruvalluvar. In fact rice culture was originated in India and spread through out the world. Linga worship, a fertility cult sanctified ploughing. Plough represented penis and earth represented yoni, and the linga worship is a follow up from fertility cult.
