Whilst on other threads there are arguments on skin colour... is it that some individuals are much darker than others?

you can tell i'm "reaching" /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think its that Krishna in the picture is holding Sri Goverdhan with His right hand when actually He lifted the mountain with His left!!!

i'm so pleased.

Does anyone know why it's His left hand and not right? I know the answer, thought i might carry on the trivia theme of this tread....

Probably because the right arm is generally stronger than the left, so He uses the smallest finger of the left arm to fully show how very easy it is for Him. I think He would rest His right hand on His hip and give a heroic smile then! (But don't quote me on that) /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe because he is holding the flute in his right hand...hmmmmm...

anyway is this line:

"Krishna, the eighth incarnation of the Hindu God Vishnu, protects a group of cowherds from a rainstorm." CORRECT?

Krsna is fond of poetic pastimes; hence the weaker arm and the smallest finger. He probably nonchalantly feasted with His friends using His right hand as though nothing was happening all through the ordeal. Of course, He did not even need to use any hand or any arm, but for the purpose of lila He elected to use the least of them, demonstrating His vast superiority over the demigods.

I'm not saying any of you guys are wrong or right but i was listening to a lecture from the Bhagwatam and the reason why Krishna held Goverdhan with His left hand is because that side represents Radha, His shakti. So although it looked like Krishna was lifting the mountain it was combined with Radha. I hope i have explained that well and hasn't confused anyone.

Seeing how thin Hari's arms were

As He carelessly lifted the Govardhana hill

She rested Her hand on Hari's shoulder

And placed Her feet on His,

Wanting to help Him lift the mountain

That was out of her reach-

Let the empty motions of Radha's hands in the sky

Triumph forever!
