I am very glad to learn that you are appreciating the importance of very nice Sankirtana activities for the purpose of attracting people to our movement. This was the simple program of Lord Caitanya and it is our business to follow His Sankirtana Movement for the welfare of everyone. So please see that your Sankirtana program is made as attractive as possible.

 

You write to say that your preaching work has not been very successful at the Ohio State University, but your visits to several others nearby have been well received. This is good news that in several university campuses Krsna Consciousness movement is well liked and you are giving a credit course next winter. So do not be discouraged that some of the young students are too much involved with some other business to listen, but go on with the work undaunted. Actually the younger generation, especially the hippies are our best clients. They are feeling very keenly the frustration of material life and it is our duty as Vaisnavas to be very sympathetic with them and give this Krsna consciousness to them some way or other...

 

Miserable conditions are created by us, and we suffer. Just like the silkworm creates a cocoon and becomes entrapped and dies. "Those who are not faithful on the path of devotional service, O Killer of the enemies, cannot achieve Me. Therefore, they come back to birth and death in this material world." [bg. 9.3]. Because he is acting independently without caring for God’s instruction, he is entangled and suffers. God has not created this suffering; he has created his own suffering.

 

If you actually have a clear conception of God, and if you have decided to obey God and love Him, you will be happy. This process of acting in obedience to the order of God is what we are doing in the Krsna consciousness movement. We have no other business than obeying the orders of God. God says that you preach this confidential philosophy of Krsna consciousness everywhere. Because we are trying to love God, we have got some affection and love for God; therefore we are so much eager to spread Krsna consciousness. Otherwise, “It is Krsna's business. Why should we bother about Him?” No. Because we love Krsna, and He is happy that His message is being spread, that is our happiness also. So we also feel happy, and God says that He will be very happy if you do this. So this is reciprocation. This is religion. Religion is not sentiment. Actually realizing God, actually executing the orders of God, then God is happy, we are happy, and our progress of life is secure. May the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the form of Lord Sri Caitanya bestow His causeless mercy upon us. His smiling glance at once drives away all the bereavements of the world, and His very words enliven the auspicious creepers of devotion by expanding their leaves.
