Look at all this commotion about whether or not some celebrity guy became a Hare Krishna.

If only devotees spent half as much time talking about the Bhagavatam as they did about these celebrities....

Sure, if that's where your interests lie. I didn't mean to imply that they should lie in something else.

He has chronic problem of wanting to lead. He is a devotee. He also not want to be purified. His arguments are circular, returning always to same points. Beating the dog until its dead. Not wanting to hear, he wants to instruct. A little knowledge is dangerous thing. When someone won't surrender it creates disturbance in society. Has he job? Life? Wife? No meant badly but why he spend time here and harass the Hare Krishna devotees for doing things different from his comprehensions? Why he has time to pick on? Must be reason.

Haridham,

Nether Sri Caitanya nor the Goswamis mentioned this personality to the best of my understanding. If it was important we would know about it.

Here we find the word kriya describing the eighth offense:<blockquote><center>dharma-vrata-tyAga-hutAdi-sarva-

zubha-kriyA-sAmyam api pramAdaH

</center>

It is offensive to consider the chanting of the Hare KRSNa mantra to be a religious ritualistic ceremony. Performing religious ceremonies, following vows and practicing renunciation and sacrifice are all materialistic auspicious activities. The chanting of the Hare KRSNa mahA-mantra must not be compared to such materialistic religiosity. This is an offense at the lotus feet of the holy name of the Lord.</blockquote>I have doubts, but they are doubts about this story of an 1800 year old guru. Of course, we accept that Srila Vyasadeva still remains in a hyper-dimension somewhere in the Himalayas, so maybe anything is possible. Best not to offend; this is one very complex world Krsna has created for us.

But have no doubt that following Srila Prabhupada will lead to the ultimate benediction. Dharma is dharma; it is foolproof.

We both noticed no bhakti on the websites. I think that speaks a lot about what is happening there. But then, maybe some people need religion without too much God for a while at least until they can gradually get used to the idea of not being the greatest themselves.

They say that munis can consider a topic endlessly without ever reaching a conclusion. Let us take the 5th, the muni pledge on this one, and continue with Sri Krsna. How can we not continue with Sri Krsna? It is not possible.

Muni gHari

Some Rama, Krishna, Hanuman.

Some Shiva, Ganesha.

A nice thing is all the Prabhupada links on this site's links page, including several on-line Bhagavad-gita As It Is pages and the Hare Krishna Index linking most ISKCON sites. http://users.telenet.be/yoga/adressen.html

Nothing I've seen of Kriya comes anywhere near what Sri Caitanya has given us. No one would ever leave ISKCON for a lesser ideal. They accept Krsna and His Gita, then we will speak of the Gita. Someone may advance in Kriya enough to appreciate the wonder of Caitanya. Let us hope that will happen in its own course.

This may be Ricky's lineage: On 22nd March 1983, as per the desire of Paramahansa Hariharananda Dev with best wishes of Board members in the august presence of some renowned local monks and members of Sadhumandal, the present Shankaracharya Maharaj Sri Sri Swami Niranjan Dev Tirtha of Puri Govardhan Pith installed Swami Yogeswarananda Giri as President or Sadhusabhapati of Sadhusabha and since then, it is being continued.

And this seems a good presentation of Kriya ideas.

Srila Prabhupada has said that there are a number of societies of pure devotees on the planet. And HERE we have a fellow who has been photographed with all the big holy stars including Pope Paul VI, and even His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Thank you for clearing things up Ghari.

You are right, Prabhupad, Lord Caitanya and the Acaryas have given to us what is important. Atleast to us. I guess it all depends on how much you want to surrender to krsna. All these other yoga paths seem hard and very difficult to achieve. If you want to do other things then all the rest of the yogas are available.

just my thought

Lecture CC Madhya 20:<blockquote>The first puruSAvatAra, MahA-ViSNu, creates the ingredients, and the second MahA-ViSNu enters in each and every universe. He is called dvitIya. And tRtIyaM sarva-bhUta-stham: "And the third, He enters into the body of all living entities, ParamAtmA, or the Supersoul." This is the division of three first incarnation.

<center>

ananta-zakti-madhye kRSNera tina zakti pradhAna

‘icchA-zakti', ‘kriyA-zakti', ‘jJAna-zakti' nAma

</center>

Now, KRSNa has immense potencies, which are divided into three. What is that? IcchA-zakti, kriyA-zakti, jJAna-zakti. IcchA-zakti means His potency, whatever He wishes, that can be done, icchA. KriyA-zakti: then activity, kriyA-zakti. And jJAna-zakti, knowledge, knowledge. In the Vedic literature it is said, parAsya zaktir vividhaiva zrUyate svAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA ca. SvAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA ca. Just like one potency is working, producing flowers, producing flowers. We are seeing that a flower is being produced automatically, so nicely scented, so nicely colored. But because we are fools, therefore we think it is being produced automatically. No. It is produced by the kriyA-zakti, by the active potency of God, kriyA-zakti. JJAna-zakti: and there is such perfect knowledge that nobody can see any defect. You see a butterfly, how it is nicely painted. You just see duplicate in both the wings. Just like an artist paint nicely, it is painted. So we think it is coming out of nothing. This is our foolishness. Here is, that it is coming out of the jJAna-zakti. But His jJAna is so wide that simply by His desire, simply by His will, it can be executed. These are the things to be studied. Because we cannot see something before our eyes, that does not mean there is no existence. There is existence, but we do not know how one is working, how one is working. SvAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA ca. SvAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA.

Just like you see the anatomical condition of your body. Now, how this body is produced, how nicely, that every mechanical arrangement, the eyes (piece?), and the...? Just like a big factory and big office. The brain is the office, and stomach is the factory, and it is creating energy, it is coming to the heart and another place... Just like soap factory. Sometimes, in some place, it is being, some part of the manufacture is finished, another... In this way it is going on. But it is coming out a small pea. And how it is developing. In everything you can see. You take a seed, how it develops, a great tree. How much potency is there. So svAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA ca. Everything is being done. I do not know. I claim, "It is my body," but I do not know how even a hair is growing. I do not know how it is replaced. I cut in the morning, and the next day, I see again there is. So these things are going on. SvAbhAvikI jJAna-bala-kriyA ca. We have to study God's activity in this way, so many things, nature's study. So those who are intelligent, they can see that these things are working. What is that? IcchA-zakti, kriyA-zakti, jJAna-zakti, these three potencies of God, KRSNa, is working.</blockquote>SB 12.11.3:<blockquote><center>tAntrikAH paricaryAyAM

All good fortune to you! Please explain to us, who are very eager to learn, the process of kriyA-yoga practiced through regulated worship of the transcendental Lord, the husband of the goddess of fortune. Please also explain how the Lord's devotees conceive of His limbs, associates, weapons and ornaments in terms of particular material representations. By expertly worshiping the Supreme Lord, a mortal can attain immortality.

</blockquote>SB 11.14.46:<blockquote><center>dhyAnenetthaM su-tIvreNa

dravya jJAna-kriyA-bhramaH

</center>

dhyAnena--by meditation; ittham--as thus mentioned; su-tIvreNa--extremely concentrated; yuJjataH--of one practicing; yoginaH--of the yogI; manaH--the mind; saMyAsyati--will go together; Azu--quickly; nirvANam--to extinction; dravya-jJAna-kriyA--based on perception of material objects, knowledge and activities; bhramaH--the illusory identification.

When the yogI thus controls his mind by intensely concentrated meditation, his illusory identification with material objects, knowledge and activities is very quickly extinguished.

PURPORT

Because of false material identification, we accept our own body and mind, the bodies and minds of others, and supernatural material control to be ultimate realities. Supernatural control refers to the bodies and minds of the demigods, who ultimately are humble servitors of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Even the mighty sun, which displays immense potencies, obediently treads its universal path by the order of Lord KRSNa.

It is clearly seen in this chapter that haTha-yoga, karma-yoga, rAja-yoga, etc., are part and parcel of bhakti-yoga and do not actually exist separately. The goal of life is Lord KRSNa, and one must eventually come to the stage of pure devotion if one desires to perfect one's meditation or yoga practice. In the mature stage of devotion, as described in this chapter, one becomes free from the artificial duality of meditator and object of meditation, and one spontaneously engages in hearing about and glorifying the Supreme Absolute Truth. Such activities of bhakti-yoga are natural because they spring from spontaneous love. When one revives one's original nature as the loving servitor of Lord KRSNa, other yoga processes cease to be interesting. Uddhava was a pure devotee even before the Lord began His instruction; therefore it was not expected that Uddhava would give up the supreme platform of being a personal associate of the Lord to take up the mechanical exercises of the yoga system. Bhakti-yoga, or devotional service, is so elevated that even in the beginning stages of practice one is considered liberated, because all of one's activities are executed under proper guidance for the pleasure of the Lord. In the haTha-yoga system one is concerned with bodily control, and in jJAna-yoga one is concerned with speculative knowledge. In both systems one endeavors selfishly, desiring to become a great yogI or a philosopher. Such egoistic activity is described in this verse as kriyA. One must give up the illusory designations of dravya, jJAna and kriyA and come to the prideless stage of loving service to the Lord.

Thus end the purports of the humble servants of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami PrabhupAda to the Eleventh Canto, Fourteenth Chapter, of the SrImad-BhAgavatam, entitled "Lord KRSNa Explains the Yoga System to SrI Uddhava."</blockquote>

I think devotees are better served by reading Prabhupada's books, which are full of Krishna-katha, than by speaking celebrity-katha.

You are right. This is clearly an envious, mundane vision on my part. Reading Bhagavatam, as you will no doubt explain, is for mundane gyanis. Real devotees watch television and MTV instead.

In case you hadn't noticed, this thread is about Kriya-yoga, and we are indeed reading the Bhagavatam where it is referenced, and where a higher goal is revealed.

The title of this thread appears to be "Ricky Martin." And the majority of the postings appear to reference him in some way. On the other hand, I don't see anywhere any discussion of references by the aforementioned Ricky Martin to the Bhagavatam. I find this telling. Maybe Martin has nothing to do with the Bhagavatam, and some are just trying too hard to see a link where none exists?

Krishna-consciousness. Not celebrity-consciousness
