In the commentary to 13.20, Sankaracharya writes that God and His aspects (jiva and prakrti) are both eternal. I have read postings that there is no real existence of God, jivatmas and the material world in the advaitic conception of vedanta. But this seems cotradictory. Could some one please explain ?

This is taken from Bhaja-Govindam of Adi Sankaracarya. The meaning is :-

"The company of the good takes one away from false atttachments;

When attachment is lost, delusion ends;

When delusion ends, the mind becomes steady;

From steady mind comes liberation even in this life."

I have read that Sankara negates in upadesa sahasri the absolute reality of God. but in this verse Sankara does talk about eternality of God. That which is eternal is real. So I was wondering how could this be ?
