Arjuna 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 I'd like to discuss the varnas or social classes. Is it an inheritance? For example, I know alot of my family do military service and work for law enforcement [like my brother just joined the marines and two of my blood uncles are cops. I'm trying to be a cop too]. Does that make me a kshatriya? When people from two different varnas marry is it true that the female must take on the males class? Why?
Guest guest Report post Posted November 24, 2005 Hare Krishna, "Is it an inheritance?" No, it is combination of quality, work and nature. "Does that make me a kshatriya?" In this age, most are mixed caste. However, if you feel you have the personality and nature of an administrator or a warrior, then you are most likely to be a Kshatriya - although I find that other people are better judges of our nature than ourselves. If you associate with devotees of God, once they know you well, you can ask them what they think your nature is. They will most likely be honest, not influenced by any duplicity. "When people from two different varnas marry is it true that the female must take on the males class?" For keeping up appearances, yes. But if the woman's varna (nature NOT by birth) is inherently differnt from the man's varna, then their marriage will not be successful and their kids will not be easy to bring up. Why? It is because they are incompatible. If Brahmin marries Shudra. One is truthful, compassionate, clean and takes on austerity - the other is very much attached to material enjoyment, working in manual labour and has no interest in spirit - this is an incompatible relationship. The child will also have mixed influences, preventing him from actually fulfilling his true and best nature. Your aspiring servant.
