I dont understand why this thread was started.

We keep looking at ourselves and do not look at the universe around us.

Brahma is the Creator.

Vishnu is the protector.

Shiva is the Destroyer.

Hindustaanam is our land. Today nobody even has sufficient knowledge about sanathana dharma and these sorts of threads are raised for arguments. Most of the ancient scriptures are lost in time and we do not know for sure whether or not Saivism is the oldest or it is Vaishnavism.

To me the people involving in these kinds of arguments potray that their "beleif" in God either Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva is only a "beleif".

To me Brahma really exists, so as Vishnu so as Shiva and I KNOW IT IS THE TRUTH, IT IS THE TRUTH WHETHER OR NOT I BELEIVE IT OR ANYONE ELSE DOES. So as all the Gods and Godesses. So i do not research based on the artifacts which one is oldest and which one is greater based on that.

These kinds of arguments serve no purpose.

Sanathana Dharma has a lot of useful marvels for the good of humanity, explaining the laws of nature and to overcome problems which any other religion cannot.

No, Brahmanism is the oldest Hindu denomination.

When the period of Brahmanism ended, Shaivism en Vaishnavism were born.

First the people prayed to Brahmaa, but he was very easily anger-tempered and killed people who made just a slight mistake in their puja or worship.

So, slowly the people began to switch to the two other Gods who are more approachable and easy : Shiv Bhagavaan and Vishnu Bhagavaan.

And this is a good thing.

Worshipping Brahmaa is not for everybody, it can bring about very big trouble if you make mistakes. Shiva and Vishnu are much more forgivable if you make a mistake.

Patanjali is much more recent than Vasishtha (if you mean Vasishtha of Ramayana). In Ramayana Sri Shiva and Sri Vishnu (and Srimata Durga?) are mentioned and one source calculates that the birth of Sri Ramaji predated that usually given for the authorship of the Rig Veda.

He was born on 10 January 5114 B.C. according to computer analysis of observational astronomy data.

This is elucidated in depth in the book

There is no mention of Shiva in the Vedas. In the Vedas, Shiva is an aspect of the god Rudra, not a separate god.

I see a lot of talk about Saivism in this forum. Saivism exists today in India only in South India. Saiva Siddhanta in Tamil Nadu and Veera Saivas in Karnataka.

Though the worship of Shiva continues to be very popular, the Saivite sect is dying out.

Hinduism in India consists of a vast majority worshipping all Gods/Goddesses. The only sect which survives are the Vaishnavites.

^ It is funny some of Hindus suspect the Shiva being Supremebeing. If you understand the true meaning of ShivLing you need not think a second to find out who is supreme.

Prior to Vishnavism as promoted in Veda's (promoted with a purpose), there was only one religion and Shiva is the God. Shiva is an universal God. He is god for any living being including humans, gods, demons, animals or what not. Thats why Shiva's linga contain no shape. He is not a human or demon or animal or any living creature. He has no race. He is everything. If you read Upanishad, you can find..

" HE IS THE ONE NONE TO SECOND

HE IS NEITHER THIRD NOR FOURTH ...AND SO ON

HE IS FIRST '' MEANS EVERYTHING EVOLVED FROM HIM AND BELONG TO HIM.

Thats why SHIVA has no shape or form but to identify him SWAYAMBU linga ( his stone not to be cut but formed naturally) has been proposed and worshipped. He is eternal which has no beginning or end thats way you cannot see any ends for Shivaling. During this time there were no restrictions to pray him. No body is forbidden to pray SHIVA beacuse he is god to animals also. Cow and Bull are his sacred animals.

Secondly, as per SHAIVA SITHANTA Shiva is universal energy and he is ultimate Shakti and every being is evolved from his energy. The divine energy of any individual being belong to him which leaves physical body upon death. This divine energy carries a charge. ( Remember Bohr's atomic theory which states every atom has positive protons ,negative electrons and neutrons which keep the atom neutral in elemental form).

Similarly Ancient Hindus ( Hindu word is coined by westerners) established this relation time immortal. This individual energy in any being carries a charge which can be a positive charge or negative charge and upon your daily actions this changes constantly. Ancient Hindus coined the word PAPA if you do a sin or bad act for negative charge and PUNYA if you do a good act for postitive charge. This balance of both the charges keep changing during your life time based on your actions and leaves your body to reach SHIVA ( Universal God) and continue in incarnation depending on the balance charge till it attains MOKSHA which is called liberation. Thats why Indians don't beleive in Physical form of the body. Their every action belong to this divine energy or soul. Their celebrations start when this divine energy joins body till leaves its physical form and rituals continue till 5 or 12 years after the death for the soul. Some people wonder Why Hindus celebrate Death? even Goutam Budhdha also wondered and he went to meditation comes with the same thoery of Karma. Karma is nothing but the balance of these two charges. Hindus celebrate death because soul leaves Physical form and joins Universal Shiva fulfilling Physical activites. The SHIVA who is father to all PATHI's ( Means beings) is also named as PASUPATHI. The link between PASU and PATHI is by PASAM also called bondage. It is beyond the scope of understanding within physical world, because it is eternal and one needs JNANA( there is no word in english, don't get confused with knowledge) to understand this concept. This JNANA can be attained by Meditation, by Prayer, by Mantra etc. which is a mind related function ( Science doesn't know what it is but do know it has some relation). Hindu's pray in temples and Home only to attain this Jnana to undertsand about this divineness of thier own and Universal. So Hindus cremate bodies but they never bury them because they dont believe in physical body. Physical body is maya (Vacuum) and eternal life is real as per the Hindu Philosophy. If any body tries to understand with physical knowledge they dont find an answer.

The above few lines are just about Shiva Philosophy and there are many extensions to it and are within the frame work above and within logic and with a purpose.

Shiva in Human form is actually of Rudra's in Vedas which was accepted by all as Vedic scholars pushed the trinity theory promoting Vishnu. Praying Shiva statues other than Shivalinga is not permitted though we see his statue in Vaishnav temples but not in Shaiva temples.

I personally feel these discussions are unnecessary when it is the time to unite all Hindus when Hinduism under attack by other religions(Islam and Christianity). All Hindu religions follow the Sanathan Dharma KARMA, ARTHA, KAMA and MOKSHA.

AUM NAMAH SHIVAH
