hinduism says that you do not get pragnent if you do not want a child. do it without using birth control devices or drugs. but if you get pragnent, then you love the child.

<< like to save the mother's life? >>

if it is certain that the child will be born who would live, but the mother surely would die after the birth, then the decision should be left on the mother, and she could decide one way or the other on a variety of situations. but if at all possible, the child should not be killed.

<< what about rape/incest? >>

rape is considered raaxash vivaah in vedic culture.

the soceity forces the raper to accept the woman as her wife if she is unmarried. if she is married, the the raper gets severe punishment. now no one would force the woman to keep the child, but if possble the child still could be kept as own child.

<< age of mother? >>

if the mother is a child and is pragnent due to rape,

then society need to help in such a way that it does not encourage teenage girls to get pragnent. the burden of care could be laid on the raper.

some situations are such that there is no good solution.

then a hindu should pick what he/she thinks is best under the situation. any solution with least sin is fine.

when in doubt, ask a sadhu, a saint for advice.

some sadhus/yogis have a large following.

they just can pick some one to take care of both the mother and the child. i am sure there are some social org.s that take care of such mothers or children.

"the soceity forces the raper to accept the woman as her wife if she is unmarried."

is this really the case? if so, it would be wrong. no woman should be forced to marry such a bad man that would rape a woman. are these social traditions that you speak of, or is their precedent for this in mahabharata, vedic texts?

in present time since a few thousand years no woman is forced to marry her raper.

however, in ancient vedic times, if one rapes a woman, then after no one would marry that woman. hence she was not able to survive alone. so the raper would be forced byt the society to marry her and take care of her as wife. she would find that a better alternative than live alone and be subjected to other men of sex pray.

what if the husband continues to rape her when they are "married"?

I believe that it is these sort of things that give hindus the false label of being mysogenistic. You actually state something very interesting.

"in ancient vedic times, if one rapes a woman, then after no one would marry that woman."

in satya yuga this would be the case? so then why does it happen now in kali yuga that women who were raped previously still manage to get married afterwards (many examples of this occuring). this is possible because some men are willing to look at the woman as a victim and still a "virgin" in their eyes as the woman was forced to have sex. This is a contradiction because in kali yuga men are not supposed to be this way. also , today , if woman was raped and had child, we have support mechanisms to take care of them (at least in US), so how can this be possible in kali yuga and not satya yuga?
